I just ordered a Huawei P40 pro and it should be here sometime end of the week or beginning of next week. So I'm about to find out what it's like running a phone without GSM. But I wish they could get this worked out, not even so much so Huawei could go back to using Google services because having a third option is actually a good thing, but because as of now they can't continue to make their own chips and that hurts all of us in the long run.
how about a 2nd part to mention these as well considering the price, you miss : 1- ZTE nubia 40 pro which costs less than 550$ for such flagship class phone. the same price as Realme GT2 Pro but overall with better flagship specs. 2- Realme gt Neo 3 base spec (six GB ram and 128GB storage plus 5000mah battery & 65W fast charging) is also unfairly ignored with its MTk 8100 & IMX766 OIS main camera sensor & 120hz Amoled, you are getting most of what a flagship is for only 330$
In India we know there aren't many options. Honor is back in the market with their Magic 4 series and they haven't yet done anything to launch this series in India. Same goes for ZTE Axon 40 Ultra. Asus brought it's Zenfone 8 a year later. Sony won't do anything to revive it's phone division in India. The X Note of Vivo isn't being launched in India. The premium flagships of Apple and Samsung are sold with an extra premium that makes the Pro models of iPhones about 400$ more than the international pricing.
You're spot on when it comes to the price and options but you're a bit off when it comes to the reason. The pro variants of the iPhone cost that much higher because of import taxes levied by the government of India. Pegatron and Foxconn manufacture the non pro variants and then those take an 18% GST hit themselves. The $400 price you pay over and above the roughly $1000 price for the pro variant, is pocketed entirely by the Indian government and not Apple. Brazil is similar : it's a whopping 60% import tariff there. On a side note, it doesn't just apply to tech, shoes and other clothing apparel are notoriously taxed as well. Nike, Adidas etc all pay nearly 48% (30% import + 18% GST) on certain lines of their sneakers etc. So something like the CR7 Mercurials would retail at like $300 but in a place like India would jump to nearly $450 with the additional $150 pocketed by the regime entirely. This also amplifies why ZTE or Vivo or even Sony for that matter don't take the market seriously. Not only are their premium offers far too expensive for a budget conscious market but those who would shell out the $800+ for a phone, would obviously gravitate to the big boys Apple and/or Samsung for reliability, security, support etc. It's also what screws the laptop/PC part market as well, gaming (PS/Xbox). Don't even get me started on the automobile sector.

Also the iPhone models currently selling in India are all imported, even the non pro models of the 13 line-up. Only the 12 Mini and the 12 are manufactured in India. But you see their prices remain unchanged. The 13 Mini and the 13 will also cost the same after they start getting manufactured here. Ones manufactured in India are supposed to be cheaper since the import taxes are nullified. But that doesn't happen because the division of Apple in India know that people would buy regardless of the huge taxes that Apple imposes. Apple's business strategy includes higher pricing of their products to influence the minds of customers that it is a luxury brand. The depreciation of INR is also a factor for the ever increasing prices of commodities including shoes, phones, laptops and even the larger ones like television sets and refridgerators.

I used to care about the latest and greatest flagship smartphones and got a new one every 2 years. Now I still use my LG V30 for almost 5 years. I does everything new phones do..maybe not as good or as fast but at least I have a flatscreen display with no notch or hole in it. Where can you find them these days..

I was considering that One Plus Nord 2N, but ultimately decided to go with the BLU S91 Pro (US$129.99 in black on "Early Black Friday Special" from Best Buy) instead. I have since learned that, although the BLU S91 Pro is GSM-unlocked, the product descriptions on both Best Buy and Amazon say that it's "not compatible with AT&T". Hopefully that alleged incompatibility doesn't extend to AT&T-based MVNOs (such as my current service provider, Pure Talk); if it does, I may be stuck having to switch to a T-Mobile-based MVNO instead, as I don't wish to spend hundreds of dollars more on a second new phone.

My OnePlus 7 pro always irritated me, almost every phone lacks something, and my issue is the camera could be better, and often apps don't notify even when they're set to avoid any form of power save, and then MrMobile mentioned it in one of his bids, so now I know it's not unique to my phone, but some other phones coming from China, out with Chinese software? I'm unsure exactly, so now I'm reluctant to try done of the others, my Xiaomi was terrible for losing WiFi calling, having to be constantly reset So my budget tells me go for a Samsung that's 1 or 2 years old

I know you've had a nasty time with the Exynos version of the S22 Ultra but the endurance ratings of all these phones is also terrible i.e WORSE! Completly unrelated but I think the poco f3 is a great mid ranger for thight budgets. It has a snapdragon 870 with 5g and a 48 megapixel camera wich isnt the greatest but its ok. It costs like only 300-350 dollars.

You really can't go wrong with an S21 ultra if you can find a good price on one. With another 2/3 years of updates it's not a bad investment.
