YOUTH CRIME: Shocking figures! DPolG head Rainer Wendt calls for consequences
Rainer Wendt, Chairman of the German Police Union, sees the rise in child and youth crime as an alarming problem that requires decisive action. In the interview, he emphasizes that the causes are manifold - from the after-effects of the corona pandemic to the most brutal violence in schools. The use of children by organized gangs and the increase in serious crimes such as sexual offences and assaults are particularly worrying. Wendt is calling for the age of criminal responsibility to be lowered in order to show younger offenders the consequences of their actions. “The state must show that it means business,” says Wendt, who also calls for tougher measures in schools.
