- I was visiting the waterfront in Alexandria, VA, on August 27, 2007, when I found this gentleman with a full set of musical wineglasses. The instrument is actually called the "glass harp." I asked him to play Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, probably the best-known song by Johann Sebastian Bach, and he gave a wonderful performance. I believe this gentleman's name is Jamey Turner (www.jameyturner.com). This was a magical performance by a street musician... hope you enjoy it!
On Jan. 1, 2016, I posted another video of Jamie Turner playing the glass harp: • Jamey Turner Plays Gla...

Sadly, there weren't many people around as he played this. (You can see the few people listening as I walked around Jamey with the camera.) A few people came and went during the performance. Added up, I don't think more than 20 people stopped to listen at all, and maybe only 6 or 8 stayed for the whole song. As many comments have said, he deserved a much bigger audience.
Simply unbelievable. Sheer perfection, not one single mistake.
Now this is what you call "Talent." Amazing someone can do this.
The most beautiful ostinato played with such care & affection. I wish I was there to drop him a $20...
Me too.....
I completely agree. It's a shame that talentless celebrities command the attention of the public, while people who actually contribute goodness to our culture are ignored. This guy (Jamey Turner) is a real musician who cares about his art. May we someday come to our senses and see the beauty of the people around us, instead of being fixated on unattainable airbrushed soulless celebrities.
Amen
Please can we be blessed with more of this amazing man James Turner…Thank you for blessing us with such beautiful sounds …Wow ! …Water Music ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was blessed to see this video Aug 12, 2012. I agree with others: it made my day, it was humbling, it was beautiful. Music is good for the soul, no matter what form it comes in. thank you for sharing the experience with me.
this guy is good. i'd love to hear him playing this song in a concert hall setting. i'll bet it would be astounding...
This is a beautiful person playing beautiful music.
Johann would be amazed. Seeing/listening (to) this somehow renews my faith in human nature!
This may just be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard I mean I already love to that song before but this just adds
Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, it's a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach, Cantata 147
Bach was a divinely inspired genius
upon listening to it again, you can see what a massive talen this man has, it is absoluetly divine. bob whitaker
I was graced with the opportunity to see and hear Jamey play in person this weekend. They were not under ideal circumstances that he was playing (it was his nephews funeral) but he was amazing! We were all left with our jaws on the floor, he has so much talent :)
This man deserves a MUCH bigger audience, quite extraordinary. And yes, thanks for posting!
How wonderful performance he does! He can play the glasses so nicely in difficult condition...windy and without audio system......How would be nice to see him playing in a theatre with some effects.....lights, immagines etc.....!
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
he should be famous.
Wow! I couldn't do that with 1,000 years of practice. What a talent,!
chiefymike well definitely not with that kind of attitude
@@deltaray3 I know right! LOLOLOL. Actually James said that it only took him one year and 5 glasses to start with before he could play his first piece, so it's not talent per se...just persistence. And a good ear helps.
He loves the music, because he loves the Person it is about.
10 years later, still incredible
Unbelievable! What a great talent!!
I am absolutley stunned. That doesn't often happen
what da hell, this guy is ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!, SO TALENTED AND REAL!
This sir is amazing.
Incredible wow... and its my favorite song
Bravo.

So beautiful!
I saw this guy in alexandria Virginia too just a couple of weeks ago!! I was on a class field trip to D.C. and we stopped hear to watch. It was pretty impressive!!
Not bad, Jamey. My favorite classical hymn. I sing this, in German, whenever possible. Most enjoyable.
Beautifully played!
Thank you, Bob for video such wonderful street performance!
You're welcome, Elza. I did this a l-o-n-g time ago!
This man is simply amazing!!! It takes tremendous skill, touch, knowledge and memory to do what he is doing and at a classical composition as well… Hats off to you my friend!!!!
Love this song 😭
I first saw Jamey Turner in Phily in the early 80's - he's an amazing guy with a unique, God-given talent and a genuinely great person as well! Good to see him still at it, in Alexandria, VA.
Holy Crap! That was awesome.
WOW, JUST BEAUTIFUL, THAT GUY HAS TALENT, THANKS !
Wonderful performance.. never seen anything like this before. Thank you for posting this video.
You are welcome!
Bach gonna be impressed by your performance, sir! 👍👍👍
I shot this video five years ago, in August 2007. As far as I know, Jamie is still around and performing, but I don't know if he still performs on the street in Alexandria.
Society works because people like Jamey work for what is good and beautiful
I came to your channel to learn how to replace spark plugs and then found this video. One of my favorite hymns to sing at church. Thanks for recording this!
I'm glad you found it... thanks for leaving a comment!
That was completely amazing!!!
Amazing talent. Perfect pace. WOW!
What graceful talent! Yet he is so hidden. This is just so lovely. Maybe he should be passing on the talent.
BRAVO!
absolutely breathtaking wow!
Brilliant! Outstanding talent!
This is BEYOND AMAZING! This is both relaxing and exciting at the same time. I am in awe by his playing the glass harp alone, but it is so beautiful just to hear it done and see it played. Thanks for posting this amazing video. :)
He has traveled the world. I was talking to him a few month ago he was telling me went to play in front of a huge group of asian musicians. So he learned to play all these ethic songs and all they wanted to here was hip hop.. good thing he already had that under his belt. Fabulous, very humble person. (just an inside secrete, he drinks real cranberry juice and tonic as it makes his sweat on his fingers make a smoother sound. Thats him. I've never tried)
Fantastic performance
Awesome...!!!
Absolutely beautiful! I love the Cantata 147 Jesu, Joy of man’s desiring. I can play it on the piano.
Extraordinary!
FANTASTIC !! ...
Yeah, this guy will surprise you. He takes this instrument seriously, and that makes it interesting.
... this guys fantastic
어머나 신기하네요 아름다운곡이 정말 좋아요~
Really wonderful performance... I hope musicians like him could come to Brazil!
It´s magic into my ears!
Beautiful!
that is absolutely amazing! i love that song and he played it beautifully!
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
Bravo Bravo Bravo!!!
this is completely amazing
I mean literally: you have to go retape it. This is so transcendently beautiful and amazing that it would be criminal if the best record of this were the otherwise lovely, but virtually ruined tape you made. you owe it to the ages!
heavenly!
Fantastic!
Glad you like it!
for street work that was amazing! Thanks for posting.
You are very welcome... both you and the others who have thanked me in comments below.
what is this guy doing on the street, he should earn more for his creativity and entertainment (and practising no doubt)
+Tyler Ace He often plays in real venues, but I think he likes the street scene on nice days. I've heard him play this song in the National Cathedral in DC, and it sounds great there.
@@BobKovacs "Song"?? That's funny, I heard no singing. In fact, nothing was sung at all. Try "piece" (of music).
Amazing performance!
Why’s this not have more views????
I think it has an excellent number of views. It is among my most-viewed videos.
Bob Kovacs but I mean why is this not completely viral?? It’s incredible!
I have exactly one viral video, and I've posted several hundred videos. Going viral is a slippery thing -- feel free to share this video everywhere you think people should see it. Thanks!
Beautiful 😍
Marvelous sound! i wish he could see this on youtube! and our comments!
Excuse me while I catch my breath and pick my mouth up off the floor hahahahaha! This is AMAZING!
Thank you for sharing your music through the internet. I like it :)
Outstanding! The setup probably took quite awhile and learning to play it on the glass harp a long time. Thanks for sharing Bob Kovacs!
J.S. Bach would be so pleased hearing this!
WOW. Absolutely incredible!! I'll take this over some of the crap that passes for "music" these days anytime.
Very nice....very nice indeed.
Increible

Interesting. And entertaining.
Loved it!
A splendid performance....an humbling experience for me...all this time, i kept thinking that playing 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring on Classical' guitar was difficult. Thanks for the post.
I got joy in listening to your music sir! Thanks Mr P for this video.
What a great educational lesson about the production of musical sound.
This was when I was 1

Yes, he should go on AGT -- that would be fun! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
Brilhante parabéns
watching this just made my day!
Really nice!
this is the most incredible music related idea I have ever seen, thanks bob for uploading, I hope to one day actualize such art in my musical knowledge, thumbs up... great, great, great work of art
You are very welcome. I admit to being surprised at how well received this is here on UA-cam. Obviously, there are many people who appreciate great music done with a unique skill, and by a real musical talent. Lately, I've been wondering how a beautiful melody like the Beatles' "Norwegian Wood" would sound by Jamie on the glass harp.
Génial !
