Chris you do a good job of not over doing effects - over do it to hear it and understand it, then back it off
thanks!
Bro…. The levels on that outro… killed me in my headphones.
amazing. I just subscribed. thanks. !
Great channel - now subscribed. Thanks for the way you treat newbies without any condescension.
You're very much welcome, my friend :-)
Excellent. Thanks a lot again, Chris 💚
My pleasure!
Great work Chris, helped me so much.Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Another excellent video... Thank You SIR!!!!!
Bonjour Selim. Merciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii 😁
Merci à toi Michel! Bien heureux que tu aime le channel :-)
Mais what?! tu parle Francais ? Génial !
En fait, le français (avec accent Québécois) est ma langue maternelle. J'habite tout prêt de Montréal :-)
A good one. Congrats. A good singer, too.
There's a very good example of using a very simple slap delay that one could use e.g. for referencing: Money from Pink Floyd. It sounds fantastic. :-)
Oh yes, that's definitely a good reference, thanks for your comment :-)
Great tip again.
I used to rely on1/8 synced to tempo,
but recently I begin with slap, it feels that it put vocal more in front.
It would be nice if you could do a Video with comparision between different Delays and reverbs types
How different they sounds like, and how to blend them, for vocals .
Thanks for your suggestion, I will add this to my list for sure!
Very nicely and precisely explained. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Great tips, as always. Thanks Chris!
Your videos are so informative. Thanks Chris!
Thanks, from Buenos Aires!
You're welcome!
Re piola
Great tips Chris! Your are awsome!
Cheers!!
just where I was looking for, thanks
Glad I could help
Very helpful, love the snare sound too very fat. be interesting to know how you got it if it's not a sample thanks
nicely done - good recipe, not too much opinion
Great work thank u sir,
Nice video Chris! Thanks for the info.Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Always good to learn/try different techniques - getting the vocals to sit right is not a perfect science, let alone subjective. Great to have another ‘tool’ I can give a go
Well said!
Really useful as I'd forgotten how to do this. Big thanks
You're welcome!
👍
Thanks Chris
very useful
Thanks....helpfull video
Thank you Chris.
Very welcome
Thanks. I think you just helped me figure out why I'm not getting the results I want with slap delay. I think I've been syncing to the tempo. Going to try this way now.
Happy I can help :-)
Okay thanks
Very good video Chris, thanks, this is very handy for verses
You're welcome!
Great video - as always :) I‘m wondering if it‘s possible to simulate the room if you have to record in a drum booth. I love your drum mixing skills and i think you could be the first who deals with that topic ;)
Thanks Sascha...Yes you can, check out these videos: ua-cam.com/video/GStV2M0S4IM/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/ln_F1knDa78/v-deo.html
Damn this reminds me so much of Incubus. Love it!
Super. Great
I'd say this is probably good for retro sounding vocals (like 50s music). If not, then I'd love to see a video on vocal production tricks that can be used in creating "vintage" sounding songs.
Actually, Slap Back Delay is used a lot in modern production but in a way where you feel it more than hear it... I like the Vintage idea :-)
Chris is sooo right. Slap back is very common in pop, r&b, and country vocals. It’s all over the top pops. Why? Because it works.
amazing. thank you. x
You're so welcome!
I see you demonstrated a stereo slapback on a mono track, how is that possible?
Hi Chris, great Video, thanks. I am new at this genre, do you know the mix name of the voice of Heartbeats from José González? Thanks!
What do you mean by The Mix Name? On this song, most of the lead vocals are doubled, meaning they recorded the lead vocal twice to get that chorus effect, then you have a long reverb of some sort
Should you put different tracks in the slapback bus? Or is better to do an independent one for each track?
Big like 👍
I only use Mono delay on my rap vocals and thats it. A matter of taste
Mono delays on vocals sound very good, for sure!
hey what are your thoughts on putting slapback as an insert using the mix knob
Thanks.
You're welcome!
Wasn’t 170ms the distance between the tape heads on wem copy cat delays?
that dude sings very nicely
He does for sure!
Thanxz...fam
You're welcome!
Can i get vocals mixed down ?
The best time is 135ms for the Elvis Sun Studios Echo
Good to know! Thanks!
@@mixdownonline There is more to the Sun Sound than just adding 135ms delay to create the fast echo. You also have the slow echo. The delay is that of the time between the record head and the repro head of the Ampex 350 Reel to relay. There is more to the original Sun Sound than simply the delay created by the gap between the heads.
The fast or the slow echo were determined by the tape speed. The delay time. could also be further increased and or the sound influenced by Sam Philips It was a straight forward setup, but not as simple as just adding delay to the vocal as is the norm today
Hello, I need your help . If I send you 2 tracks , one with a backing track and one with a vocal track can you make a very simple and easy edit please ? I don't want to take your time just a 5 minute edit I ask . I want to hear the difference with what I do and what a pro can do. Thank you.
Yes, but that is a paid service. you can reach me at info@mixdownonline.com
Whats this song called
It's not sitting right to me because the vocal needs a not more saturation and drive still nice tho
i like distortion on vocals, i sing thru a makeshift microphone made from a telephone because i like the sound, but not all vocals need that
thanks it helps me alot
You're welcome!
why mono?
cool beard)
Thanks :-)
Is it possible ro record the delay output to another track? Could you explain how to do it? Thanks.
I sure can! That would be a cool video to make :-)
I am waiting for it anxiously.

Where is the trick ?
It's just classic slap delay on vocals.
I was told there would be tricks here...
