I believe the writer of Hebrews is definitely talking to saved believers.....So if we go back to the beginning of Hebrews Chapter 6 the author tells us exactly what they are talking about..... Hebrews 6:1-3 "Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us press onto maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits." So right there in Hebrews 6:1 we are told what the topic is; Pressing onto maturity... So Hebrews 6 is not even talking about salvation or one losing salvation; its talking about getting already saved Christians to grow up and obey God. And this is confirmed if we continue to read in Hebrews 6:7-8 7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; 8 but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. Notice in verse 8 it says it is rejected and near to being cursed; not actually cursed......and verse 12 below the author hopes that by growing up the saved Christian will inherit all God has promised them. So what he is saying in Hebrews 6:4 is that if Christians refuse to grow up; eventually it becomes impossible to get them to repent and mature...and we see that all the time with Christians who simply refuse to grow up and take the Christian life seriously.....and as a result many put Jesus to an open shame.
Definitely talking about saved Hebrew Christians. The checkmate argument is as follows. Cross reference Hebrews 6:4 with Hebrews 2:9, and do a quick Greek word study on the word “taste”. Now take the explanation of 90 per cent of preachers and teachers who get this passage totally wrong. They’ll say the people described here gave the appearance of being saved or they came short of experiencing the gift of salvation. Take that logic and apply it to 2:9, and you’ll see it can only apply to true Christians. Otherwise, you become entangled in major heresy. Also, to be renewed to repentance means they have repented before. An unsaved person has never repented at all.
My Conscience is telling me to stay away from the bible and other religion because it's all written by man. Men always want to control and they will put fear in you to get that control. I almost lost my mind when I read that verse. I blame my mother for forcing us to go church every Sunday when we were kids. She broken up with my father because he admitted of molesting us. We didn't need church we needed a therapist. I should of had a therapist in my child years and teen years. Praying to God did not help. That's what a therapist is for.
This is about the new Jewish convert who returns to the Temple system and the Law. They restart temporary sacrifices for their sins in the Temple, after knowing that Jesus is the one Sacrificial Lamb who takes away sins forever. When they return to the Temple, they are making a statement for all to see that Jesus was not the Messiah, that His Sacrifice was not once for all time, bringing shame upon Him. They can never be returned to salvation in this system of temporary sacrifices. And what is the difference between the Law and Temple sacrifices of the Old Covenant and Roman Catholicism which requires confession and forgiveness of sins through a renewed temporary sacrifice of the actual body of Jesus Christ (Christ Mass) every single week? Absolutely no difference. They are lost too.
Noah entered the ark, but it didn't rain for the first 7 days. If he decided to open the door which God had shut behind him, and goes out- just like Lot's wife who looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt, he would have never been able to get back into the ark. That's exactly what this verse is saying. It gets so difficult waiting for the coming of thee Lord as we see all these things happening, but Believers must endure till the end to be saved Matthew 24:13.

Let me say thank you for the video first of all. You approached this verses like I have the times I've taught it but at some point our views began to diverge. Like I always say when I teach this book: this author had two groups of people in mind: those that mix the word preached with faith and those that don't or those that enter into his rest and those that don't. In chapter 4 he said "we which have believed do enter into rest". The author had two groups in mind. However, there is a third group we always input there, which is the group that entered into the rest and came out of it. It's just not in the context. Read what he says after 6:4-6. He gives an analogy of two lands that receive rain. One produced according to the expectation of the farmer, that received blessing of God. The other received the same rain but produced torns and briers. This is the one that is cursed. Again, there is not a third land that received the rain, produced herbs and later began to produce thorns and briers. This interpretation is consistent with what he did in chapter 2 where you see: how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? You have those that gave earnest heed to the word and those that let it slip. "Slip" in that context was explained to mean neglect or rejection. Again in chapter 10 he talks about the same thing. He talks about those that sin wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth. This is a contracted form of what he said in chapter 6:4-6. There he says the only thing such a person can look forward to is CERTAIN judgement. The good thing about chapter 10 is that he goes ahead to explain what it means to sin wilfully. It is to tread underfoot the Son of God. This is a metaphoric way of describing rejection. He says the person counts the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified as something unholy(common). Lastly, in 12:25 he does the same thing. He said "see that you refuse not him that speaketh. If they escaped not who refused he that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven." Two groups all the way. It is statements like "turn away from him" that trips us but contextually to turn away is not to accept and then later change your mind. In chapter 3 he says "today if you hear his voice, harden not your heart." The day you harden your heart or not is the DAY YOU HEAR HIS VOICE. Check this if it is not consistent. Shalom brother.
Just want to ask pastor, what if a christian feels genuine that they are saved, feel the holy spirit guiding them in their life, getting inspired and getting reminded of things they do is bad. But they have a certain sin that they still do actively they are having a hard time relinquishing it are they really saved?
Thanks Drew, Yes there are struggling Christians. and we cannot tell when someone is genuine in their faith. Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments. so the struggling Christian will be doing the commands of Jesus. when they sin there will be conviction and repentance and upon confess they will be forgiven. And the genuineness of three faith will be reviled. Hope this helps, there is much more that can be said on this subject.
This could be what Peter (Paul?) was talking about as his “thorn”. Either an act or simply a desire for an act that he prayed to God to remove from him but which God refused. Maybe the apostle didn’t give in but wanted the temptation removed, or maybe he found himself succumbing?

When you consider the audience of Hebrews, they were Jewish believers in Christ who were severely persecuted. They were ready to abandon their faith and accept the Jewish law in addition to Christ. Define a false believer?
So you would suggest that it is not too late for someone who realizes they were mistaken in their profession and truly wish to come to the Lord with genuine repentance?
Thanks
