Hi Everyone, One of my GG Grandfathers was a Erastus Grant, descended from Peter Grant who was sold into the New England colonies around 1650. He was at the battle of Dunbar, losing to Cromwell, and eventually ended up in Berwick Maine running a lumber mill. The family flourished in Maine for many years, with lots of descendants. Awesome to see this video and all the Clan Grant posters...
Greetings. I'm also from Maine with maternal side of Grant. Just starting my research but we must be somewhat similar with our descendents I'm the same area. Cheers
@@trevorleconte3695 Wow that is neat. My belief is that all the Maine Grants are at least tangentially related. This is how we got to the American Revolution. We were not unaffected.
I've recently started working with a cousin of mine on where exactly we fit into the Grant Clan. She's been working on it for years but I've just really gotten involved. Waiting on my DNA test to come back, hopefully it will help narrow down everything. We know that we are Scottish just don't want to put to much information on a public page like this.

My grandfather ( Peter Grant Bremner) is from Scotland. He used to live in Fyvie castle. He came to South Africa and met my grandmother Veronica. He visited a her a few times before she went to scotland with him to see his homeland and take care of my Great Grandmother. They eventually left Scotland and came back to south africa after my great grandmother died. They had my father and he was an uncultured Scot, so when I was born he didnt know that the girls in the family could also take the clan name so I was just named without it. Years later before my brother was born my grandfather told him that he girls in family could also take the clan name. When my brother was named he received the clan name. Alexander grant Peter Bremner. I feel without the clan name I am not entitled to say I am part of the Grant clan. But this is the little that I know about my Scottish history as my grandfather died and I have not been able to see my grandmother. I ask my mother often about my dad's side of the family bit she has little to no information💔❣

A fact I saw on PBS show about the early Florida Colonies a few months ago was the first Governor appointment by England after Spain relinquished the Florida Colonies ( originally there were two, East and West ). Shortly before the American Revolution, Spain burdened by years of conflicts with Nations on their side of the Atlantic as well as contesting with England over possession of Florida and the American Colonial unrest on the horizon decided to let England have it and just go home and focus on that front. The man appointed as the first Governor after Spanish control was described as General James Grant of the Glenmorriston Clan of Scotland. That's our people cousins. I have a number of interesting historical info, some of it documented, some speculative such as our Sinclair ( St. Clair ) cousins, Knights Templar, Henry Sinclair, Oak Island, Nova Scotia, a lot of wild stuff. Some of it is unlikely to ever be provable but a lot of stories long considered just myth and legend have found serious support among Academia in the last few decades so can ever say never. I admit I am sometimes open just a bit to the mysterious, supernatural side of human cognition and do enjoy entertaining such thoughts from time to time. Such as my birth October, Friday 13th and our possible ties to the Knights Templar. That was the date the order was accused as heretics and the leaders we're arrested to be tortured and eventually burned at the stake with the order declared to be disbanded. I know that's silly to there is any correlation between my birth and that event but it amuses me so I'm.going to do it anyway. I'm a strong believer in scientific evidence and reason but it all gets too serious and self-righteous if you don't interject a little whimsy and nonsense into your beliefs.

He was said to have been a son of the clan laird. Some of his cousins were sent to Barbados. I believe there was an earlier Jacobite Uprising, not sure if memory serves me correctly. I have found no record as to who he was indentured to but after he was released from servitude he was liscenced to trade with the Cherokee and records indicate he was close to Gov. James Glen who governed the Carolina colonies at the time. There is a collection of correspondence between the two in the North Carolina State Archives. He acted somewhat as a liason as well as legal authority for the governer at times. He kept him apprised of affairs in the Cherokee Nation. He was said to be well liked and trusted by whites as well as the indigenous people. In 1727 he married a chiefs daughter, Elizabeth "Eu-ghi-oo-tee" Tassel Carpenter and spent the rest of his life as an adopted Cherokee. It is amazing how much culture and customs were similar between the Highland Scots and the Cherokee. Both had a clan structure and similar lifestyle in many ways. A few years back some of the descedants Ludovic and Elizabeth were invited by the Grants in Scotland to attend the annual clan gathering and celebration. They were allowed to carry banners and March at the head of the procession at opening of the event. I believe visitors have attended since then. I would love to be able to attend myself but I don't know that I ever will. Just a dream. Anyway, just wanted to throw my bit of family lore out there. By the way, it is said us registered Cherokee Citizens who descend from this couple account for one-fourth to one-half of the tribal count, about 300,000 I believe. 75,000 to 150,000 ScotoCherokee ( the official academic term for us disenfranchised Scots). We are actually a subject of academic study. Don't really mean to complain about this video, just wanted to expand a little for anyone unfamiliar with the history. I'm far from an expert but I have been researching for several years since retirement have ample time. I'm just delighted whenever I encounter family history being reported.
