  • Episode 594. Some samples made it my way a while back from A.A.P. Butler and they look fantastic. These could be Aberlour Casg Annamh, abunadh, Linkwood 2007 or Orknery from Thompson bros. Whatever they are, I'm sure to have some fun today with these. Cheers! #aberlour #thompsonbros #whiskyneighbour

A very nice blind tasting. I don't recall ever seeing do one. Nice job though. Just think, the next two you have a 50/50 chance to be right. Slàinte Mhath!

Nice Jon! Blinds are fun to do and watch yet quite hard. This video is the result of an experienced palate, cheers 🥃

Glad you had fun with those! I think the pronunciation depends on whether you ask Gaelic speakers or not: I remember Jon Beach at Fiddlers in Drumnadrochit saying that "Glen Mhor" (The Great Glen) should be pronounced "Glen Vor", but the people who worked at the distillery did not speak Gaelic and they said "Glen Mor" when he spoke to them... People even change the spelling of their own names to make it easier for the rest of us, hence Eithne -> Enya, Caoimhe -> Keevah and Mhairi -> Vhairi. I think "cask annAM" would do!

Thanks, and thanks for the samples. I had to come back on and share a bit more about the Linkwood as it got much better with time in the glass. Cheers!

+10 bonus points for adding the update on the Linkwood opening up ... drams really can change and improve over time, and I can only think how proud Ralfy would be of that little appendix to the video 👏👏👏 Cheers!

    2012...
    Whisky Journey begins.
Toronto, with my cousin. Big LCBO, where you can pay for ridiculously tiny samples of all sorts of stuff to try.
I want to see what a 'good' Scotch actually tastes like.
    Only 2 samples allowed.
My choices: Lagavulin Distiller's Edition...and a 25 year old Linkwood.
The Lag DE was so different from anything I'd ever had that it blew me away, enough that I ordered it a week later from the warehouse.
Never could have imagined spending that kind of money on a bottle of ANYTHING, but it really got into my head.
It's still a favourite, but out of my spending comfort zone.
    Now...
Kicking myself. The Linkwood 25 was $249 in 2012. Will never be seen at that price again 😔
Ah, if we only knew then what we know now...
I love blinds, don't get to do them often. They're always surprising.
    This was fun!
    Cheers my friend 🥃😁

What a great story, and yes, the prices we used to see are long, long gone. Lag DE would be fantastic!

Wow those are heavy hitters and a great review. The Linkwood sounds delish! I have a bit of A'bunnadh left in an opened bottle and it is truly a big heavy sherry bomb. I have an infinity bottle with a generous portion of that A'bunadh and some Highland Park in it's make plus a couple of other cask strengths but boy that infinity bottle is turning wonderfully good. I still enjoy a small pour of A'bunadh and have been debating about some day replacing it when the current bottle is done.

A'bunadh is a fantastic release. Sounds like that infinity bottle is amazing!!
