I love the fact you started with the best car you could find. Clearly a move by an experienced fabricator who has a practical goal in mind …… and one who recognizes the total cost of this transformation will be less in the long run when you start with the best case base. Bravo. 👍😎👍
i love the amount of "geek level" info and details you give. Really paints a realistic picture of what goes into building your own car, plus helping anyone else who might want to take up a similar project.
I support your decision on the AMG SLK 100% Andrew. It is going to make for a much better end product. Love the build just as much as the GT40. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
i was real sad when you sold the GT40, its what got me subscribed, but im realizing this may be one of the most criminally underviewed build channels on YT, keep up the good work
If you own the car, it's YOUR business what you do to it. I don't understand where people get off telling people what they should or shouldn't do to things they own.
"More of a bad financial decision kinda place"🤣Sir, you are the perfectionist. I'm so looking forward to this build and am already very curious as to how your going to sort all the glass windows.
I have just began to follow you by seeing the quality of your Ford GT build. Now I don’t know how you edit your videos but I hope to get to see a lot more action with live commentary and maybe some background commentary too added afterwards in the coming videos. Good luck with your build
Came across this channel whilst you started cutting the SLK. I must admit that I didn't expect the project to move this quickly. Don't forget about head height when finalising body height. I'm sure you've already covered it but thought it was worth mentioning. Everything looks awesome so far.
Just came across your build I think it’s a fantastic way to build a gull wing the things I can see that may give you some grief is lowering the engine I’d just watch drive line angles for vibration and the second could be bump steer in the front end looking forward to the next episode
I agree with you. If you are building a great car you're better off starting with a great foundation. Continuing with the direction of deeper cooling systems. Can the air intake be lowered by making the shape of the ducting wider. I haven't done the maths it just a thought for now.
Having watched you GT40 series and your attention to detail, have you considered going one step further and building your chassis from scratch, with same mechanicals. This would allow you to keep the reg, while allowing you to model your chassis on the SLs original space frame
I’ve never done a kit car build and really impressed with the way you plan your build steps. Especially your statement about building the car around your choice of wheels. I’m doing something similar with my Volvo P1800ES restoration modified build. Want the wheels and then decide on how much to lower it. Watching with interest. My only beef with the choice of car is, why not the 55AMG ?
That looks so good sitting down over the tires. The lower you can get the chassis (and still be drivable), the more you can cheat the body up to clear the engine. You're not too far off as it sits now. I think it would look much cleaner shaving the engine bay of all the clutter. That's the biggest problem with a lot of these builds. They look great until the pop the bonnet then, yuck. Less is more. Off to a fantastic start. Congrats on the added viewership too.
Thanks Charlie, I've been messing with the body since I recorded this video and I've got it pretty much where I want it so I'm looking forward to sharing that in the next video :-)
Hello Andrew ,Happy New year to you. I am afraid you will always get people who don’t like what you are doing to the donor car. I think people follow your episodes because you present it really professionally, and can’t wait to see your progress. All the best.
I find it sad that you have to defend your decisions on your build. Frankly you provide a form of entertainment to the viewing audience, be grateful! People need to understand that fact it's your build not theirs. Do what you see fit. 👍
How would you go about attaching the body to the chassis? Do you have to make custom brackets that directly hold onto the body and then Bolton chassis or would you have to glue them to the chassis. I have always been curious on how build like these get attached to the chassis
Great build - wondering if you are going for a manual conversion? I know someone has a crossfire box and other bits for conversion for sale in uk - though was for E55 I think might fit?
This is crying out for a carbon fibre frame . I do a lot of carbon and this would be a great candidate. You could use a combination of flat wet layup on the rear wheel quards to tubular rap over foam forms. Would be very strong and you can bond directly to the tub. A better elan 👍

Cannot wait to see this project progress.

Thanks, I want to share my journey so others can better what I do for theirs
I wouldn't even waste your breath on any negative comments were here to follow your journey 👍

Thank you, appreciate the comment!
Was waiting religiously... Compliments of the new season 🎉
Brilliant stuff, love the detail you put in, thank you
Great job! Keep up the great work.
Great work and I am jealous for your talents. I am tracking and looking forward to the finish line.

Love that you’re getting an upturn on views and follows. Great work mate.
Andrew, the SLK 32 goes like a bomb , given the weight cutt it still burns rubber around 90 kph! ❤love it .

Ah man, I'm glad someone picked up on that comment haha

5:40 some saucy looking welds there 😬😬
Yea, certainly some questionable fabrication skill!
@ imagine the cost of the flapper wheels to clean that lot up 💰 😂

I loved the GT40 build, I now can't wait to enjoy the 300Sl Gullwing build
Great pace - looks good
Very nice build. Yes, over build structural support. You will not regret it! Subscribed
Good progress, don't worry about the comments about cutting up the R170. It's from the time when Mercedes weren't building cars to last.

Just subscribed and really looking forward to the build

This will look amazing.

Great to see your subscriber count picking up. Your channel should have many more followers and visibility. I wonder what the postman thinks of it?
Haha, he's fully on board! More a biker though than a car guy... I can't believe he video bombed my footage though!
like your approach

Hi. I’m interested in knowing the body supplier. Looking forward to the rest of the build👍🏼
Loving the build, and your decisions. I do expect you will be tidying up the underside at some point!
Absolutely! I'm toying with the idea of getting in ice blasted to make it as good as possible, then redo the powder coating on any parts that need
Very very exciting
Didn't know the Crossfire was basically the same car. ::Rubs hands together:: this is good news boys.

I’m curious as to why you decided to go with air suspension, no reason, I’m just interested, thanks, I’m here for the journey 👍
The stance of the car is very import to me and air will give me that laid out look I'm after
The Crossfire shares a chassis with the R171
You sneaky rat! What an awesome choice!
we would like to see the work with the mesurments
Im looking to your project as reference for others❤

I hope you are up to the task of fitting the Gullwing's doors. I hear that they ae very difficult to get right.
Let's face it you've turned a hairdressers motor into something cool to be seen in 😂😂😂😂
What's with that extra long rear end?
That's what a gullwing looks like
We have asked on the last video, and so have other and you havemt said where you got the body from. You did say you would tell if we asked
I mentioned in the video to get in touch via DM on Insta, happy to answer any questions there
By cutting away the reinforced steel alloy windshield frame Chasis rigidity is f. up 😮By the way looks way cool than the original
The sheer fact you revved the car before turning of demonstrates your level of vehicle and engine knowledge.
Gotta leave gas in the carb float bowls!
Let the boot licking haters hate…keep doing your thing. Love the build!
you could put that body on a tractor and it would still sing to me..............
NO! bad!!!
I'm going to enjoy this, but less talky talky, more worky worky please. Had to stop watching the Stanceworks f40, the guy won't shut up.
Way too much talking and no action.
have to agree with this comment .... more building less talking
Will have to be exceptional to be better than andi’s his is mint
