You have to understand everyone has cheat days in life if not with food its with sex or its with spending money they dont have or need for bills, its speeding when you shouldn't and its fidning something in your shopping carts that you didnt pay for and not going back to pay...life is full of cheaters and no one is immune to it, its not about cheating its about how much...

your mind will actually force you to eat crap just to go back to the old weight. If you don't have cheat days and just eat 1 cheeseburger instead of 3 you should be fine. Don't be like teddy eating bobs burgers every day though. Don't think about just the calories you really kicked your bodys ass from the inside.

Hey man I remember trying to lose weight. I ended up losing over 100 pounds so I could join the army. A couple tips that might help you out because it was stuff that helped me personally was drink a lot of water. At first it sucks and you can add lemon and other dumb shit to the water but after about two weeks you forget you even drank soda or beer or anything. Also when you smoke a cigar rather than sit down go for a walk around a beautiful area. Again yes it might be a little different and not what you want to do when you smoke, but you can still enjoy that cigar and explore a national park or something. You might try and argue smoking a cigar is all about relaxing but you can still enjoy it while walking around. Also look at it as your getting healthy and relaxing. Also there is no such thing as a cheat day. They just put you back down.

You consumed more in three days than I do in roughly a month... If you have food issues to the fact you binge like that, you need to avoid cheat days all together. Recovering drug addicts don't have drugs once or twice a month for a cheat day. And you are definitely addicted to food.

you are a grown up man and nothing i say may change your thinking but a cheat day is not eating until you trow up it is supposed to be a day when you enjoy some pizza and maybe some icecream, 50000 calories are the food I eat during an entire month, that much in one sitting can't be good for your body

don't let the comments get you down, Jeff. most people don't ever look at the amount of calories in food. they don't truly know how much can be in the normal foods they eat. ie eating just a moderately sized bag (think large but not party sized) of chips (which i say anyone can do just snacking while watching some tv/netflix) can be as much as 2,400 - 3,000 calories alone. ~50,000 is a lot but you knew you were doing it, had just went 3 months of strict no cheating which most these people could never do (try it folks, go sugar free for 3 months - that's not just sweet things sugar is in everything! Look at ingredients!), and man -ed up to it. You're already back on track buddy! Good luck!

  • @68MalKontent

Cheat days/meals/whatever reinforce the reward mechanism in your brain. We are wired to crave the reward and look forward to it, and it so happens that we have associated this mechanism with food. And the primary goal should be to think hard on how to reward yourself for perseverance with something ELSE than food. It's like with any other compulsive/addictive behavior. For example, if someone was battling alcoholism, rewarding oneself with vodka would obviously sound stupid, right? Same with food. I know, I'm a fat guy... Happy Easter and push forward :)

I don't think the idea of a cheat day is to eat until you are on the verge of vomiting. most people I know who do cheat days use it as a time to enjoy the things they can't eat on their diet, in a responsible manner. for instance, when my boss is dieting, his cheat day consist of 2-3 eggs, toast and a couple pieces of bacon for breakfast. then something lighter but still not diet worthy for lunch. then for supper, a greasy cheeseburger and some fries. you are talking probably 3-4000 calories for the day. 50,000 in 3 days sounds very unhealthy, and not just because of the weight gain

I have an eating addiction/disorder, it's terrible. I've had 100 last meals the day before I intend to eat healthy but I keep saying, "I'll start tomorrow". It's like crack, people don't understand and will say, just stop eating, we'll it's not that easy when you are constantly craving or thinking about food.
There's gotta be an underlying issue but I've yet found out what it is. Plus having a family history of heart disease and diabetes, you'd think I'd wise up but there's always, "I'll start tomorrow", now I'm going on 35 and have been saying the same crap all my life with a couple instances losing 70 or 100 lbs, I have to get back in that mindset. Stick with it!

My wife and I have lost a combined 150#ish (with strict keto, still having a ways to go) and the biggest lesson we've learned is don't cheat ever. We're both nearing 200# and will certainly hit that at the end of summer/fall. It's fun to think about our old relationship with food but we need to remember that reverting back to bad behavior gets us back to where we began and our relationship with family is way more important. I don't want to be greedy like that ever again. It's not just that I want to love myself but I want to live a long time and play with our children and grandchildren. We owe it to them to be healthy. Ultimately, our health is not about us.

Hvac103 So true. I've been plant based for a little less then a month, and feeling awesome. I don't really have cravings for shitty food past the occasional bite of a corn dog or something if my family gets it. When I've dieted before I starved myself and lived for cheat days, eating plant based foods and drinking water is totally different. Wish you the best Jeff

Hymn from Boston too be honest, I'm not sure. it tasted(most recently) like a frozen pizza compared to the hand made stuff we used to make. dough was too tough and bland, sauce was bland, and no buttered crust. cheese also tasted blended like with part skim and of lower quality.

I was an alcoholic for a very long time. I am clean now 12 years. I tried several times before that to get sober but failed for the same reasons. The thing that probably turned me over to success the most was absolute, 100% solid, no reservations at ALL decision to STOP. The other was no cheat days. No "just one". No "I have done really well so a reward". That kind of thing guarantees failure. Diets are the same. You don't "Go on a diet" for a goal weight. You change your lifestyle permanently and make it habit for life. It is daunting at first but becomes second nature with time. That is the only way.

Binge eating disorder is a real thing. I know people on the obesity help forum with that issue. By the way, I had vsg surgery on November 10th 2016. Started at 293. I now weigh 199, and I should be at my goal of 175 by the end of the summer. Best decision I've ever made. Best of luck with your journey.

A lot of the weight you gained is also water weight. When you eat a ton of salty junk food and pair that with alcohol rather than water, you could definitely retain 3-5 pounds of just water over the course of three days. Good video. Gotta say weight fluctuations are normal. Sometimes people think it's their fault, but you really only have power over long term trends. Just a recent personal example: I was eating super clean for several days and even noticed some visual changes. A heat wave came through, nothing changed about my eating, but I gained 5 lbs in a day. It was all water weight and soon went away. But you could see how if I had a little cheat meal, I might blame the food or myself, etc., when in reality the larger trend was lots of clean food. In any case, just like you said, people shouldn't get bogged down by the number on the scale, it's the behaviors and attitudes that really matter

Hey Jeff, just wanted to say that even though you went pretty overboard with your 'cheat event' (lol), it sounds like you have pretty much the right mindset and congrats on the weightloss so far! Just don't completely discount cheat days as a sanity keeping measure, if you can keep going without them, great, but if you need a little freedom from whatever your diet is, try a cheat day where instead of eating yourself sick, just eat to a healthy fullness. Don't treat the cheat day as 'time to stuff myself day' but as 'time to not have to follow my diet day'. Good luck :)

I'm not overweight, but I'm not 5% body fat either. I've been trying to eat better lately, but since I'm not actively trying to lose weight, I eat bad fairly often. I'll tell myself "ahh I'm not fat so eating this this and this today won't hurt me" but I do that wayyy more often than I should. More so I tell myself "I can have this today no problem" and then later that day I eat something else I shouldn't because I already ate something bad. It's very easy to snowball into a binge of junk food, which is why I would suggest not cheating in general. You have done great so far though keep it up.

Also, I hope you saw the last part of my post. I've been a loyal subscriber for about 7 years. Love your content. I watch your videos so much that even my wife can pick out your voice in a crowd. We'll your and Nick Shabbaz's voice. But Nick has a very very distinct voice.

Most of the weight was water from the beer. Carbs from the beer further complicate that scenario.
As for gaining fat, I doubt it was more than 3lbs. Your body doesn't work like that.
Cheat days or meals aren't a good idea. Eat clean 90% of the time and you will progress.

Jeff, I weigh 325. I'm down 19 pounds by using Weight Watchers Online. My question is... what kind of scale do you use? I need a new one and like the one you used in the weigh-ins. Thanks. 50K calories... dude... that's like Michael Phelps kinda range... lol. I'm glad to see you getting back on track.

I would do a cheat meal at the breaking point of all the dieting. Once I got beyond tired of the health food, I'd treat myself. Then get back to work.

Not me I have to totally learn how to eat again. I have been eating nothing but fast foods for the last year and have gained thankfully only 30 lbs but I'm tired of feeling rotten all the time and I have health problems on top of it all that aren't food related. Anyway I don't know what I would make myself to eat because I haven't actually cooked proper meals for ten years and don't even know what a proper portion of food actually is.

13 pounds ehh no worries man! Mostly water weight. Get back to the grind and you'll be right back on track. Do refeed days instead. Look it up if you like. I'm taking a break from dieting still eating the same stuff I was eating while dieting just not tracking macros and weighing everything. Keeping it simple. Take it easy man!

Ya win some ya lose some. Live and learn. You won't do that again and that's what matters. My experience with losing weight goes as followed; if you're enjoying what you're eating you're wrong. Nothing but fruit and veggies and protein. Cut out everything else. Baked fish, baked chicken, plain salads and lots of fruits for something sweet!

Cheat meal, instead of a whole day, could work but still I agree with you. Having a whole cheat day means you miss the lifestyle, not just the individual food. You could have a single cheat meal per week or month and that would do basically nothing bad to you but people with this addiction can't do that, the problem here is self discipline.

You have an eating disorder man. No joke. That type of binge eating is horrible for you. The only good thing is that your body can't produce 50,000 calories of fat that fast so after you equalize your water and sodium and take a massive shit you might gain 4-5 lbs so it's not gonna be a devastating weight gain after you get yourself straightened out

  • @chooglinwithsnubby8600
    @chooglinwithsnubby8600 7 років тому

I was just thinking, 50,000 calories. Let's see now, I'm on a 1600 calories a day diet with an occasional 600 calorie day when I hit a sticking point.
So that makes 50,000 calories what I eat in a month.
I can see your point though, I reward myself with cheat days when I hit a goal. But it's usually something like a pizza and a non-lite beers.
The thing that really matters is that you did it, didn't like it and learned from it.
I'm behind ya, I'm 4 pounds from my goal of 70 pounds off and I feel certain that you can reach your goal.

  • @BananaMana69
    @BananaMana69 7 років тому

Man you gotta change your whole lifestyle. You should maybe try and find an app to calculate your calories and make a goal of 10 or 12 thousand steps a day. My mother has done this for the last year and a half and she has lost 70 pounds. She is so happy and energetic. She is also a 47 year old cancer survivor so if she can do it so can you! She likes eating out sometimes but only on special occasions. If I try to give her some chocolate or buy her a burger she tells me that will ruin her progress You need to get into that mindset.

wow the fucking comments in this thread are absolutely atrocious. everyone saying shit like that's more then they eat in a month and cheat days are excuses are clearly trolls and assholes. I've been in your shoes and losing weight is the easy part, maintaining your life style is the hardest thing. you experience is kinda like smokers trying to quit, then they go out and drink and end up smoking 3 packs. it happens and you just gotta move on and learn from it. keep up your hard work and don't dwell on the pieces of shit commenting rude and condescending remarks

Lol, i even reget eating some chocolate after a 10km run. What helps me is thinking about food as necessary fuel for your body, this way unhealthy food becomes a non-option, why eat bad food when it does not contribute to your energy levels, health etc?. Anyway i hope you will gradually change your view of eating healthy from being on a diet to just eating normally. This way you wont even want or need a cheatday :)

I can't help but compare your food binge as a weight-loss strategy, to someone smoking a whole carton of cigarettes to kick the habit. Sure, in both cases one might feel sick and repulsed initially, but you are priming yourself to crave more of that substance in the long run. (Not saying that you intended on feeling sick.)

you made a mistake, you acknowledge it and now you move on. you're not dead so no big deal. I still think you need to do weekly weigh ins so you can't cheat at all. you could try to cheat and come back before the end of the month and end up losing progress.
