Definitely agree with reading as much as possible! I had a goal of 100 books in 2020 before the pandemic, and I hit 101! It kept me off of Facebook and the news more than necessary. I watched less TV than others, and I got to have the satisfaction of reading more books than John Green. This year's goal is 52, because I missed podcasts and Netflix. Also I can read longer books if I feel like it.

I just want to say that, as someone who has never been or had the desire (yet) to get pregnant, I feel so much more prepared for it should I choose that route later in my life, all thanks to how candid you've been in your videos. We women really know so little about our bodies until we're put into unprecedented circumstances like yours.

From someone that has been for many years in your place and now wanting to have kids and learning more about fertility, if you can I highly highly recommend getting your fertility checked as early as possible. It’s so underrated and all we hear is if you have a normal and on time period, you are all good! So false, but so easy to see where you are with an AMH blood test (that gives an approximative range of what if the life time egg supply) and OB/GYN normal ovary scan to learn your follicle count (how many eggs you consume per cycle) => this will tell you if your clock is ticking or not. It’s shocking to learn about people in their mid 20s that have low ovarian reserve, thus running out of eggs. I got lucky to find this right on time when I was able to do something about it and freeze for the future use.

Have you read The Inheritance Games? It's about a girl who was raised by a single mom and was quite poor. She suddenly inherits a billionare's fortune instead of his children or his grandchildren. In order to keep it, she has to live in Hawthorne house for a year along his 4 grandsons. The billionaire was very much into puzzles and riddles and it becomes a huge game to figure out why she was chosen. It's going to be a trilogy. 2/3 books are out so far and it's GOOD!

Elle, do you like kinda scary novels? If so, maybe look up The Keep by Jennifer Egan! It's perfect for this time of year, because it's SO atmospheric... think Gothic castle type story, with lots of genre-bending twists and details. I will say it's definitely adult, with lots of profanity and some really scary parts, just in case that isn't your vibe right now. Let me know if you pick it up! One of my favorite other UA-camrs Taylor R was struggling with fertility for 3 years and she said one of the best books she ever read was It Starts with the Egg: How the Science of Egg Quality Can Help You Get Pregnant Naturally, Prevent Miscarriage, and Improve Your Odds in IVF (Second Edition) by Rebecca Fett. Ugh, every fertility doctor I’ve seen (7 IVFs!!) has said you can’t change actual egg quality. There are tons of studies that show that egg quality is what it is, no studies show that anything changes the actual quality. I read that book and it was so misleading - my drs said it was okay read but doesn’t follow actual science. Hate to have bad news but thats my experience.

    • @skygirl15
      @skygirl15 3 роки тому

@@bellabella1028 Interesting.. I did IVF and my RE fertility doctor stated otherwise, as they did see better results with certain supplements and fertility acupuncture and personally doing this I truly believe it helped, as my final IVF numbers and normal PGT-A tested embryos were above any statistical expectations and could not imagine a better outcome. I’m sure this does not work for everyone and age matters a lot, but I do think it helps.
Would also recommend reading and watching The Egg Whisperer blog and podcast or live instagram. She also talked about recent research and she also recommends certain supplements that helps with egg quality.
Would you mind sharing a link to some of the studies that show that egg quality cannot be improved? Would love to read more about that

I’m opposite of you lol. I never test. Ever. I think the only time I’d test is if I was a full 5-7 days late on my cycle. I’ve been TTC x 18 months now and never once seen a positive pregnancy test (I used to test like months 1-4 of trying). It’s too depressing to see negatives so I’m not going to test until I know it’ll be a positive. I think we approach it differently because our experiences have been different (me never having been pregnant before, you having been pregnant several times before).

You might like From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout! The main character is named Poppy, and in her society, she's known as a Maiden. This means she is not allowed to be seen, spoken to, or touched, and that she has been chosen to be Ascended. She hates this, and wants to be allowed to fight with the guards. The story follows her and one of her personal guards as she struggles to kind of decide who she wants to be versus who she's forced to be. I think you'd like it based on how you feel about A Court of Thorns and Roses! From Blood and Ash doesn't revolve around faeries, but it is sort of supernaturally driven

For book recommendations: I LOVE the wayfarer series by Becky Chambers, which includes The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet; A Closed and Common Orbit; Record of a Spaceborn Few; and The Galaxy and the Ground Within. These sci-fi books are sooo cosy, each book follows a different set of people in the same universe as they live their lives. Not a lot happens, but you get to know the world, the species, and the way they live their lives. One book is set in a spaceship, the other in a planet truckstop-ish place (but for ships), one follows an AI and a person living by themselves in a trash dump, and one shows the whole society that lives in a space station. Absolutely recommend for just getting lost in.

I think you would like the book Dark Matter! Could be a black mirror episode, very good quick read.
It’s about a man who wakes up and his life is different and he has to figure out what’s going on. For example his house looks different and his family isn’t there. He quickly figures out he’s in an alternate universe. A big theme is what are the impacts of every decision you make and if you would have done one thing differently how would that have impacted where you are now.

Baby #1 was unplanned, but very welcome. We TTC baby #2 for 4 longgg years. It eventually just became routine, and I was no longer super anxious during the 2WW after like year 3. I drank until I got that positive test and pretended like it was gonna be negative, to save my sanity. No symptom spotting. We did it all naturally, no medical intervention; I just really didn’t want to spend the money honestly. PCOS was to blame for the infertility trouble apparently. Anywho, super excited to have given birth to that second baby August 2020!!! I haven’t read The Mermaid but when you were speaking on it I was reminded of “The Rules of Magic” by Alice Hoffman - If you’ve seen the movie Practical Magic this book is based on the Aunts in that book when they were children. It follows three siblings through their life and how the go about falling in love even though there is a curse when they do. It takes place mostly in NYC in the 60s if I remember correctly… but it’s SO MOVING - made my heart sing, made me cry - I finished it and went “wow that was beautiful”.

It’s set in future and a computer manages pretty much everything so humans life is very easy dystopian type and no one dies. Because no one dies they have “scythes” to glean people. Elle, I'm a very longtime subscriber (over 10 years!!), and I am rooting for you so hard. I am childfree by choice, so I know I have an element of privilege in that this is something I will never have to go through, but I still care a lot about your motherhood and TTC journey, and I am learning so much!! I try really hard to empathize and put myself in the shoes of people who are struggling with infertility, and it helps to hear how someone I care about is handling it. I have friends and family who have dealt with infertility, and I really try to be the kind of support they need. . . A lot of times, I think people are too polite to say anything to people they know IRL who might not be being very sensitive, so it's really eye opening to see this type of video on how you're *really* feeling. I'm not trying to get a gold star for this, but genuinely, I have always thought the two-week wait sounds like torture!! I know I would have to just get through it if it was something I was doing, but not being in that position, I feel like I just couldn't handle it. Also just keeping your habits in perpetual pregnancy mode, just in case!! I really appreciate how open and honest you are. I know these videos aren't necessarily "for" me, but I try to stay in my own lane while genuinely wanting to be some form of help and support when people need it.
Your Glitteratures are the first book reviews I ever watched (I mainly watch BookTube now!), and I don't even always read the same types of books that you do; I just love the way you talk about books. Have you tried The One by John Marrs?? It is a bit similar to Black Mirror, because it's about this woman who has invented a blood test where you can learn who your soulmate is by something in your biology, and the book follows different people who have taken the test and are in weird situations based on the results, including people who were already together before the test was invented and took it just to "see" if the other person was really their soulmate, or a murderer who is matched with a cop?? And some less OTT ones, like someone who had no same-sex attraction but was matched with a man. I think you would like it because of the speculative element, and the emphasis on romance, plus it is really gripping and hard to put down.
I also think you might like The Status Of All Things by Liz Fenton. It's about a woman who is about to get married and suddenly, when things start to go wrong, she realizes her life will change (like in a magical way) based on what she puts as her Facebook status. It also has those speculative and romance elements, and it makes you ask yourself "what if" questions about how you would handle the character's situation, which I also know you like!
Sorry if this is too much and weird; I do have other book ideas, but I feel like you've heard way more than enough from me on this video! . . .

From my recently finished books I would say you should read 'Red, White & Royal Blue' which is about the US president's (a woman) son who falls in love with the prince of England :) it is a lot more than just a love story (with some sexy scenes as well) and since I tend to mostly read 'fluffy' stories, this one has a nice twist to it! Another one I loved is a series by Jenny Colgan called Little Beach Street Bakery which follows Polly who moves to the British seaside by Cornwall and opens a bakery there, falls in love, etc. aka small town goodness ;) So many more I could recommend but will leave it at that for now :)

READ KLARA AND THE SUN BY KAZUO ISHIGURO (nobel prize winning author)
This book is very much like a black mirror episode. It's a dystopian about an artificial friend (AI robot) who is bought by a girl with a terminal illness. As the robot develops a stronger and stronger bond with the girl, it's own emotional intelligence grows and pushes the boundaries of what it means to be human. But, there is something seriously wrong with this girl's family. The robot tries to figure out what is actually going on in the girl's family in order to protect her.

I’m not sure how to message you, but it looks like my comment was deleted here and on another video… my OBGYN and other docs said you can’t actually change the quality of your eggs… I hope that not offensive to you or anyone else? I think it’s important to hear all opinions and sides of this. We did 7 IVFs with 4 different docs across the country (talk about desperate 😔), and my only pregnancy ended in a miscarriage - I just have bad eggs. It’s a sad story that I’m sure nobody wants to hear, but it’s MY story, and there are all sorts of ways things work out. Each dr said egg quality can’t change via food, exercise, etc. my friend and sister were told the same thing (both got pregnant not attempting egg improvement, but all of this is chance anyway!) I just thought it was important to say what they told me. Positivity is so important. But there shouldn’t be shame and cancelling for telling my own story.

You need to read the Covenant Series by Jennifer Armentrout. I'm terrible at giving summaries so I'll paste the actual plot here: The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi - pure-bloods - have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals - well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.
Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:
Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.
Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem - staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
Elle trust me, this series is so good, it's going to suck you in and change you forever. (To be honest all J.A books are incredible but this is unreal)

I have book recommendation for you. Have you ever read Mercedes Lackey's 500 Kingdom series? It the typical fairy tales but in adult form. There are 6 or 7 in the series and they are great! Mercedes Lackey's Elemental series is also really good.

I love Ritual!!! They’re the best. I have used them for years. Especially nice for that time release because I work in food service and you don’t want a stomach ache while working.
I enjoy your glitteratures. I read the Percy Jackson series back in the day when you recommended it like a decade ago. I got my little sister into it too.
I love these videos because I was in college when you were in college and making videos. It’s been really cool growing up with you. I am 31 and planning on being a cool aunt, alot of my friends though are starting families and going through the same thing so I can refer them to your videos if they need it. :)

@Elle - if you want another Black Mirror like book - you’ll love The Test by Sylvain Neuvel - it’s also quite short, but definitely will hit the mark of what you are looking for.
The book is all about someone going though a citizenship test, but seriously in a completely Black Mirror style. I cannot say more, since the book is small and it will spoil the content.

I would love to read that fairy book you were talking about they don’t have it in audio :( I downloaded the mermaid one. I really love the Mercy Thompson series ( she is a shape shifter and she ends up living with a Wolfpack. And you get to find out like who her birth father is and why she is a shape shifter and you get the different inner workings of the werewolf pack. And then there is a spinoff called Alpha and Omega.).and it’s a long Series so if you end up liking the first book I think there’s like 14 or 15 of them right now. The sookie Stackhouse books that the show true blood was based on are also really good and I honestly think better than the show. Where are my all-time favorite reads though is the original Sherlock Holmes books. There’s a collection called a complete Sherlock Holmes and it has all of the stories and novels in one book And they’re all written from John Watson’s point of you and they’re all the original stories in cases of Sherlock Holmes. It’s written in that very late 1800s early 1900s British dialect

“The Program” is a YA dystopian series about suicide being an epidemic amongst teenagers and the way the government chooses to deal with it is send any teen who is flagged (basically by showing any emotion) to the program where they erase their memories.
“Unplugged” is a series about a virtual world that people live in and the main girl has been looking forward to finally getting to the real non virtual world with her family, but then the government forbids people from unplugging
You may have already read these because most of my favourite books are from old glitteratures 😅😅glitteratures are my favourite thing you do, Elle!

A deal with the devil is never good
Addie willingly trades her soul for immortality, but she doesn't realize until too late that the price of her freedom. SHE will be instantly forgotten by everyone she meets the second they part It’s been over 300 years and for the first time someone remembers.

Book recommendation- These hollow vows by Lexi Ryan
Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back-including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court. Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.
It’s so so good if you like a court of thorns and roses you should definitely like this one too! 😃

Please read Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen. It’s about a girl who is about to go to the city and be a famous singer but the night before she gets captured and sold to trolls who live in a forgotten city underneath a mountain. They hope she will help them lift a 500 year old curse preventing them from ever leaving that place. It’s fairytale like and very magical.. the trolls are not like those that we know from other stuff.. they are beautiful (most of them) and smart and have magical abilities.. there are three books to this series, I have read two of them recently and it has gripped me and when I started the second book it felt like coming home.. I think you will love it too... I found so many great books thanks to your glitteratures, glad to see you are talking about books again.. and really hope to see more on that topic again... also I’d like to wish you good luck with everything that’s is going on in your life right now 😉

I don't know if you mentioned it in the past or if you have already read it, but I really liked Caraval by Stephanie Garber. It's about two sisters who get invited to a magical game. One of them disappears all of a sudden before the game even starts, so it's the other sister who has to find her before the game ends.

I just finished The Grace Year. And it was absolutely amazing. It was about a society where they send away all 16 year old girls for a whole year to get rid of their “magic”. The main character is a strong girl who doubts the system their society is built on. It’s a mix of hunger games/hand maids tale.

You 10000% NEED to read The Bargainer series. Trust me, you will devour it. Major ACOTR vibes. Reallllly hard to explain without giving everything away so I’ll just tell you how it starts 😂
The Bargainer (fae king of the night), collects debt for a price. He has been making bargains with Cali (human/siren) for years. She gets a black bead for every bargain she makes, and she has bracelets worth. Only death or repayment gets rid of them. (Of course she develops a crush on him in the mean time). But then he disappears.
After disappearing for years, he appears one night to collect. He asks first for a simple kiss. He then asks her come to the fae world and pay off her debts by helping him solve a problem in his kingdom/world.
Annnnd then the story REALLY begins. Ugh so good. So sexy. hands down one of my top fav series.

I would 100% recommend The seven husbands of Everlyn Hugo! The novel tells the story of an old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, who at the age of 79 decides to give a final interview to an unknown journalist, Monique Grant. You go on an incredible journey with both the journalist and Everlyn. Its beautifully written and an incredible read!

I would definitely recommend A Darker Shade of Magic series by V.E Schwab.
Its basically about 4 parallel Londons. There is magic and magicians are normal in Red London were the MC Kell is from. However he is a special magician known as an Antari who has the power to travel amongst the parallel cities. Don't want to give too much away but there are 3 books in the series and VE Schwab has really beautiful writing 😀
Sending you love and well wishes on your baby journey♡
