Love your videos! I am 66 yrs old, lived in Maryland all my life (Baltimore), and yes, our Capitol City is beautiful, if you are a tourist, LOL. The dock is called Ego Alley, where all the guys and gals with boats show them off; at 9:40, the county is Anne Arundel (not Arundal), but no worries, we Marylanders just call it Rundle Canny, hon. Population of Annapolis City may not be very big, but the surrounding area is huge, crowded, and you ain't experienced life until you drive to/from/ around Annapolis during rush hour. It is a very old city, and if you drive anything larger than a Yugo it can be frustrating. People are very friendly, they do take pride in Annapolis, and it shows, and there are mostly professional and well-educated people there; as to cost of housing, forget it. Yes, there is plenty to see and do, including boat rides and quaint tours on buses, and walking tours too. If you are an American History buff, this town is definitely on your list.
Hello from Ireland, my friend moved from Ireland to Annapolis when she married a soldier and they live there now. She said it was beautiful and it really is so stunning. I love your videos, they are so relaxing.
Boy did this bring back memories. I was stationed at the Navy Academy Hospital 1973-1975. I was a Navy nurse during the Vietnam War and am, therefore, a Vietnam Veteran.
I've met a number of people you probably worked with. One has a dentist practice in Annapolis right now. Lighthouse dentistry if you wanna to reach out to her.
It’s called Pleb summer! Love this video! My nephew is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, he flew the F-18 Hornet for the Marine Corps for about 2 decades and is a Major General in the United States Marine Corps! We are extremely proud of him, especially when you consider there are only approximately 63 Generals in the entire Marine Corps…. Semper Fi… I do wish you would have explored more of the city but still a great video covering the Academy….
Annapolis is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Very clean with a rich history. The historic homes and buildings are a site to see. Quaint little streets and shops. Boaters and boats galore. Let's not forget delicious crabs and seafood. A real gem, this little American town.🫶❤️🤗
Hi!! I love watching your videos. Thank you so much for taking me along on your trips. I'm disabled and can't walk very well any longer, I use a wheelchair so getting around sometimes is a little harder. I am in Maryland, about 90 minutes away from Annapolis down south. Southern Md, actually. You were asking about the heat, and YES, SIR, it is hot!!! With the humidity, yesterday was about 110 degrees. I haven't been to Annapolis in a few years, so thank you for showing me around!! Please be safe, stay cool, and drink a lot of water!!! Sorry, I just worry about everyone. Especially the folks I see on youtube. Have fun, and thank you!!
I live in Maryland not far from Annapolis and YESSSSS its been extra hot this July!!! Its normally hot But these last couple weeks have just been extra hot lol And of course we have to mention the humidity is always insane!!! Great video!! Too bad you couldn't have come in on a boat into the city marina!! That would have been extra cool!!
local meteorologist here... not uncommon for the area to get this hot, but its been unusually persistent and intense this summer. Last time we've seen a stretch of 101+ days like this was in the late 1940s.
Washington D.C., through Annapolis and Kent Island are known for what we called 4 o'clock Squalls. My dad would say just wait 10 minutes, the sun will be back!😂
I grew up there, it is a beautiful place. Many wonderful memories of boating and eating hot steamed crabs with cold beer. Maryland/DC Area is very hot in the summer and the humidity is very high. Love your videos. ❤
Our daughter attended St. John’s College across from the Naval Academy. Alumni Francis Scott Key graduated there. While there, our daughter lived in a 200+ year old house near downtown. We have visited many times and hope to go back soon.
Loved seeing my hometown through your eyes. I used to work at Middleton Tavern and was excited you chose it. You did miss out on oyster shooters. An Annapolis staple there.
Hi guys Annapolis’s was certainly a very beautiful old city with so much timo offer anyone wanting a vacation experience you probably couldn’t get anywhere else ! From the beauty of the churches , the old buildings and the water area and the state house was amazing to see also! The very old tavern restaurant was beautiful and quaint and really for what y’all got the meal was reasonably priced , those crab cakes were loaded with crab also !! Safe travels see y’all next time !! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Marylander here. Our capital city is beautiful and such a fun place to walk around and shop and eat. And yes, Maryland was built on a swamp and is hot and steamy in the summer! It is also a really a fun place to Christmas shop on a cold, snowy December evening.
Thanks so much for featuring my hometown of almost 40 years. As an Annapolis photographer, I have trod over just about every step you took in this video. I have been watching your videos for over a year and have been looking forward to your visit. You’ve done a marvelous job documenting Annapolis and the Naval Academy. By the way, locals never refer to the Naval Academy as “Annapolis” because Annapolis is the city and state capital. I haven’t been to Middleton’s in a long time. Although I figured you’d go there for the history, there are better restaurants in town. As a crabcake maker myself, those cakes do look fabulous. There’s not much bad to say about the place beyond the traffic and the heat. Looks like you missed the traffic, but got nailed by the heat. Ya, that’s Maryland in the summer. Thanks for visiting.
Very enjoyable video. I loved the grounds of Annapolis. The church with the Lord on stained glass was something special. I really enjoyed the entire video. I believe it's hot everywhere. No.Texas is 103° with cloud cover and no breeze. So you can imagine. It is a beautiful city. Thanks so much.
Deja Vu: I think I saw once, while visiting the city, that cool corner building with the smokeshop. 20-25 years ago. Man, those Naval Academy buildings are incredible. My architectural training tells me that the excellent wood dome at the statehouse was probably wood joinery: mortise and tenon work. Square holes in the wood with rectangular wood plugs for tenons - that sort of thing.
Nails or whatever type of fastener would be utilized nowadays might not have been invented or have been universally available at the time of its construction. Makes one wonder how this structure would have been fashioned today. I suppose it would have been useful to allow ingress of natural light; super important before electric lighting was commonplace; or perhaps as a way to funnel heat higher up, like an inverted cone, away from the main visitor area of the building? It certainly adds a decorative element to the buildings facade...
I was born in Annapolis 1973. My father worked down town at a radio station 107.9 wfsi. We since moved the Eastern shore Maryland. Thanks for showing of our State Capital.
Joe and NIc , That duck is a Northern Shoveler. looks a bit like a Mallard, except for the bill which the sweep back and forth while feeding. Our daughter had two summer internships in Annapolis, with the former Governor of Maryland, that would have been the early 2000's. I remember how beautiful the downtown area was. Our Nations Naval Academy really makes it a special place for visiting. Annapolis is a gem!. Cheers, Rik Spector
The acoustics in the church at Annapolis were amazing! I'd love to hear the organ! The row houses always interest me. I can't imagine living like that at all. The town and campus are beautiful. Wish I had those crab cakes for lunch right now. lol Thanks.
Annapolis is beautiful! Enjoyed this video! Lovely duck! Love the streets in the downtown. Very interesting history. Post office is beautiful. Love the sign on the church door. Gorgeous homes! Love Dahlgren Hall and the Academy grounds / chapel. Cool cannon! Looking forward to New York!
Loved your tour of Annapolis. When I was in the Navy I was stationed on the USS Wiltsie (DD-716) at Treasure Island, San Francisco. Some of the officers on the Wiltsie had graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.
You noticed the pipe organ in the Episcopal church, but didn't in the Naval Academy Chapel? That organ is one of the largest pipe organs in the country. It has 5 keyboards, 522 draw knobs on the console and 15,688 pipes!
Annapolis has such a quaint downtown. It is hot and very humid on the east coast all the way up through New England in July and August. Thanks for the great tour.
I really enjoyed this video ! A beautiful and very interesting city, and the homes are lovely ! I love the church bells ! Thank you so much, Joe and Nic.😊💖
Annapolis is the nicest state capital you've shown us so far. It's clean, it's well preserved, it's got a great scenic location and it's got plenty to offer the visitor.
No empty storefronts in that town I see, and it is very pretty and historic - a bit of a contrast to many of the places you've visited recently, which frankly have been a bit depressing to watch! It's also interesting that the chapel at the Naval Academy is far more impressive than the Episcopal Church - you see that in England too.
This is one of my favorite of your videos. Such history and very pretty town. And what a fantastic looking church. Beautiful architecture. Also was awed by the buildings at the Naval Academy.
Naval Academy "guys in white" are Plebes - first year students on their inaugural/boot camp summer. 4 guys in khaki were officers. You visited during a record heat wave., unfortunately.
They make the worlds best stack rudders in Maryland they go from 8ft and upwards and when on three double you can holler them in at large capacity instead of one fourth. If you go down to Mc Grover street you will find a large hoover rack that has been there since the 1800´s at least.
Wow! Impressive Annapolis! 🥰 Luv the Passport Stamping. You & Nicole are such a joy for me. Thank you so much for taking us along with you. Hope you never tire of me saying this.
So very interesting. Great facts that you provide! My dad served in the Navy (WWII), I wonder if he was trained there. Thank you for your time in providing us with this piece of history!
18:09 Those are plebes. Called freshmen at a normal college. They are going through plebe summer now. Started June 27th. Ends mid August when the academic year starts. There was an upperclassman in a Khaki uniform leading them somewhere. The others in khaki uniforms were upperclassman. No telling what they are doing a lot goes on during the summer. Wish I ran into you Joe and Nic I live very close to USNA. Great video!!
So glad you went into the Chapel. My brother was in the Abbey Brass which played the Easter Services every year. The music and beauty of the chapel could literally bring you to tears.
Hi, watched this video twice so I could really look at the row houses & downtown. Reminds me alot of areas in/around Plymouth Harbor in MA. My husband & I go down there alot in summer on our Harley. I saw your vid on Plymouth & you missed alot of the beautiful old homes, buildings on the side streets around the harbor. I appreciate you educating us on the different styles of architecture. Thankyou for your videos. Stay safe & hydrated.😊
That Naval Chapel is stunning with the vaulted ceiling and dual pipe organs (?) maybe one with extensive pipes? Pretty town for sure. Have a great day and safe travels
Annapolis is such a cool, charming town. Re. weather/climate: Yes, Annapolis (as well as the overall Baltimore/D.C. region) is warm to hot and 1,000 percent humid from late June through to the end of September. Thank you for visiting the USNA campus. In all my time in Annapolis have not been there.
Thank you Lord Spoda for the tour of the hallowed grounds of the US Naval Academy . It is something we poor folks never get to see . The state capital itself seems similar to nearby Georgetown DC and old town Alexandra VA .
I live in Northern Virginia, not far from Annapolis. Yes, it is incredibly hot! Not only in Summer, most of the year. Remember Snowmageddon in 2010? Since then we haven't had more than a few inches of snow each year and the summers are hotter and hotter. Oh, and each of the row houses (minute 10:00) will cost the better part of $1 Million.
I’m from Maryland & it’s a very hot summer but we also had a mild winter . From when I was young we really don’t get the snow we use to get if we’re lucky we do . I love all the seasons . Annapolis is beautiful.
Beautiful city it has been a while since I have been there, but yes Maryland summers are very hot and humid, this year has been a little extra blah. You did miss the crypt at the naval academy, but I do not think you are allowed to film there, it does hold the tomb of John Paul Jones, father of the US navy. And the statehouse dome does use wooden pegs instead of nails, there was a fire in the dome in the early 2000s. you were right near the Alex Haley Kunta Kinte memorial at the waterfront.
Hey Joe, the crab cakes that you were showing at 27.00 are what real crab cakes look like, it looks like pieces of chicken in there. Most crab cakes are just filler with a legally amount of crab in them to make it pass as a crab cake. You will never have a crab cake that good again unless you go to the Chesapeake Bay area. My wife and I were salivating over those. Sadly our go to place on the upper Chesapeake over the years have been getting less and less crab meat in them and have been getting slightly smaller. My wife and I love your videos, we love being able to see all these beautiful buildings that you go in, most recently the MD.state capital, church and the Naval Academy
The same here in Germany. Lots and lots of new foreigners. Eastern bloc. Muslims. Black people. Very, very unusual for old Germans. And lots of problems with them. Completely different upbringing. If you want to talk about „upbringing“...
@@gplunk your right. Sad state of affairs. The older homes were solid. These new home are made out of sawdust and glue. Shut the front door and the whole house shakes. Yeah a little exaggeration but not by much. :)
Great video guys. Sure brought back a lot of memories from when I was there over 40 years ago. And it still looks just as nice. It’s indeed a beautiful city. We had many opportunities to explore a lot of the areas when stationed at Quantico. Beautiful buildings and historic naval sights. And yes anything other than white is more important. LoL don’t ask me how I know. LoL 😂. Great job great commentary and stats. And yes it was a great place to visit but was costly to live in even back in my time. My favorite part is the waterfront areas. Use to be some great restaurants close. With excellent seafood. Thanks for the ride along safe travels my friend. Keep filming I’ll keep watching
Your video, earlier, was not available, so I found a podcast about the State House. It said that the renovations will attempt to utilize the materials and colors used when the building was built and that this would require some investigation. I found that the room where General Washington resigned his military commission to be very interesting. I wonder just what purpose that room served when this event occurred. The place oozes with history. Those row houses remind me of similar structures that I have seen on UA-cam of Liverpool in the UK, where a few of The Beatles grew up. They had been renovated, particularly in Dingle, where Ringo grew up. So So, there's a strong British legacy in Annapolis' row houses. All of this is very intriguing and compelling. I appreciate this work you're doing. P.S. The room where George Washington surrendered his military commission is the old Senate chamber.
Annapolis is a beautiful city. The harbor is great, The Naval Academy was very interesting the churches you toured were beautiful and the statehouse was cool and very historic. I am a fan of George Washington so you making the connection in this video was a plus. The Pub was also neat. The meal looked great. Lump crab cakes are the best. Another great video. You could spend a week here touring Annapolis and never be bored. Thanks again for the entertainment. If you love colonial architecture and housing you need to stop by and check out Old Town Newcastle on the Delaware River in Delaware..
I love Annapolis. My daughter went to private school there. Just a lovely little town full of so many surprises. Philadelphia (Philly to those of us who are native to the mid-Atlantic) also has many historical gems and it’s on the way to NYC. I’ve live in 4 states in the region and they all are rich in colonial history: Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. Thank for documenting and sharing your journey. And yes it hasn’t been quite this hot in a while.

Thank you Joe awesome like always love the videos it is beautiful in there wow
Thank you Lord Spoda for the tour of the hallowed grounds of the US Naval Academy . It is something we poor folks never get to see . The state capital itself seems similar to nearby Georgetown DC and old town Alexandra VA .
The Naval Academy Chapel is beautiful.
Summers in Annapolis can be hot and humid, but there are often breaks as cold fronts move through bringing lower heat and humidity.
The heat and humidity are worse in central Maryland during the summers, but Annapolis has milder winters.
I lived in Crownsville right outside of Annapolis. We loved taking walks there
We lived in Crofton...what a great place to hang out.
@@rbelf001 I agree
Phenomenal
Blessings from Texas ❤
Thanks, this is so awesome.
Wow looking at the inside of the church. Man what has happen to us. Could anyone build something like this now days. Personally I have my doubts.
What has happened to us..I ask that every day. I feel I've been abducted & dropped into a completely foreign zone.
The same here in Germany. Lots and lots of new foreigners. Eastern bloc. Muslims. Black people. Very, very unusual for old Germans. And lots of problems with them. Completely different upbringing. If you want to talk about „upbringing“...
New 'construction' these days is a sad testament....
@@gplunk your right. Sad state of affairs. The older homes were solid. These new home are made out of sawdust and glue. Shut the front door and the whole house shakes. Yeah a little exaggeration but not by much. :)
And architecturally 'devoid'; to boot....
Yes!! This summer has been insanely hot here in Maryland!
Thank you for the great comment!
Beautiful, thank you!
Nice…
Gonna love upper state, New York .
You guys be safe enjoy .
And thank you for taking all of this along with you .
Excellent video - Thanks!
What an interesting place. Thank you for the close-up view. I enjoy your videos.
