YES!!!!! 12:20 That is indeed RRF (regional Relay). I worked there. 3:09 is the "Elephant cage" HF antenna. 5:40 was our housing area...included Johnson Avenue farther over. We watched an eclipse of the Sun from the top of FEN Hill. I was OIC at the Transmitter site out near Crow Valley. Good times that my family and I will NEVER, ever forget (except the two that were born there in the Medical Center. They were too young to remember anything!!)!!! Thanks so much for sharing this video!!! Brought tears to my eyes just to watch and remember!
This is fantastic! I was there as a dependent from 86-90 (my father served with 3rd CES), and this brought back some memories of what I consider some of the best memories of my life so far. Thank you-
mtnbikr107 I'm looking for my biological father who was in the U.S Airforce between 1987-1988. My mother met my father in 1987 and I was born on 1988. My mother name is Josephine.
I wasn't there in '90. I departed in '89. I worked with Col. Inglesby who was security commander until '88-ish. They won best under his command as well. Good days!
Thanks Thom for the comment. Appreciate you checking in. I too was there and left in Nov of '90. I think I have posted the Best In Air Force video that was put together by the audio visual folks at AFRTS. It's awesome.
@13:00 you can see the 1961st Communications Group facility that was once an AUTODIN and AUTOVON facility, and also served as the commercial communications demarcation point... PLDT's Dau facility can be seen just off base with their microwave tower. There was a copper cable that ran from PLDT's facility to ours. We had an "orderwire" direct connection to PLDT to communicate with them, but frequently they wouldn't answer, and later would tell us that they were outside playing basketball, or cooking, drinking, whatever. On mid-shifts we used to go up on the roof and watch planes taking off... and I had to climb the tower once just to make sure it was safe. Towards the end... around 1990, most of the building was empty and parts of it was used as a lab... I think it was environmental science and they were testing water samples.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Was there from Sept 90-June 91, 3rd Transportation Squadron. The video reminded me of some things I'd forgotten after 20+ years. Love the shot of the Elephant Cage at the beginning.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I was part of the 3rd LES until Dec 91. I was there before, during, and after the eruption of Mt Pinatubo. I'll never forget that!
I was 3rd LES, day shift 89 to March 1991. I didn't know about a volcano until after I got to MacDill, but had a terrible sinus infection due to breathing the VOG from it.
EXCELLENT, co2randy! I recognize the layout: 3:44 New Wurtsmith School 3:54 Hill housing shoppette 4:11 Hill transient quarters 4:58 Water tower: in officer's hill housing area, highest point on the base 5:35 Grissom Elementary 5:48 MARS (FM) Hill, obviously Wagner High was missed just after this The rest of the video along the south perimeter seems to be tagged pretty well.
Great video and thanks for posting. I went to school in Wurtsmith Elementary and Lilly Hill Middle. Oh, how I wish the US will build the bases up again.
Thank you for your comments. My sons also went to Wurtsmith and Grissom. I share your dreams but sometimes, we need to let them go. Keep the memories close and cherish the times you spent there.
AWESOME video!!!! Quite possibly best UA-cam EVER. First visit to P.I. 1986 Subic Bay been back many times and planning on moving there next year. Can't wait to get out of US permanent. Thank for incredible videos.
Mark Davis I am looking for my biological father who was station in Clark U.S Airforce Airbase between 1986-1988. My mother met my father in 1987 and I was born in 1988. My mother name is Josephine.
@7:00 The point where the NPA had set up the ambush. It was thanks to Sgt Guy Blevins the ambush failed. Sgt Blevins noticed wires in the road leading off to the side and also noticed movement and saw "NPA" off to the side. The convoy was halted and they turned around and headed back to base.

You are so welcome. What an absolutely beautiful place prior to the eruption. Sorry to see what has happened after we left not only from the eruption but from the mismanagement that has occurred.
It's so hard to look at Google Maps if you want to see the current Clark. I have to look online for old maps of the base and compare it with current google maps: www.clarkab.org/maps/index.htm
Yep, GREAT memories of Clark, Pinatubo blew about 9 months after I left. USAF couldn't wait to ditch all their E-5's, I found myself at Dyess, back in SAC ! there were no more CONUS to CONUS PCS moves. I was plucked from heaven, and thrown into the pit, forever, HaHa. Great video, thanks again for posting it.
Caster Street, were me and my Dad used to buy Chocolate Milk, Fresh Donuts filled with strawberry, and Chocolate Ice Cream, yummy... Haven't been in Clark since 1992 after the Mount Pinatubo eruption.
I went to qualify at that range shortly after they found those cans buried in the road. we hand carried our rifles in the bus, and the instructor positioned a crate of 15 (?) round magazines in the aisle. He told us if I slide this down the aisle grab a magazine and try not to shoot ME ! it was a very special trip to the range, they had us stand by a couple of times while they checked out armed groups outside of the range thru the binoculars, and just the terrain along the road, and the knowledge that the commies were getting pretty bold, made for a very interesting road trip. its hard to describe the claustrophobia of looking out the bus windows and seeing the hillsides go straight up, to God knows what !
Thanks for posting the aerial vid. Was stationed there '85-86 w/ the RAPCON. Yeah can't forgot that Elephant Cage in the beginning. Maybe I'll see the horse stables and that big cage with monkey? or was it birds.
DaKine796 I am looking for my biological father who was station in Clark U.S Airforce Airbase between 1986-1988. My mother met my father in 1987 and I was born in 1988. My mother name is Josephine.
Is this who I think it is? Sorry for the late response. I've been working these past few days and haven't had a chance to check email. Didn't know who buried Paul but I'm glad you were able to be part of it. Also, you can reach me at my facebook page. Hope to hear back from you..
In 1975 I remember sitting in the back of a truck driving to the range. It made me nervous we had M16's but no ammo. The ammo was in the cab with the Sgt., I asked him later why we didn't have ammo in the back in case of an attack and he said they had locals that took care of security. That road was perfect for an ambush, steep walls on both sides. The village at the range was nice I really liked that area. I don't know why they would send us down that road with no ammo stupid Air Force thinking. When did the ambush occur and were there causalities? I was K-9 shorty after I left K-9 handler Bob Grey was killed in a washout.
Thanks Matt for the comment. I'm thinking it was in '88 or early '89 when I was working in mobility and learned of the event as it progressed. We were fortunately alerted by a person from the village that persons had buried "stuff" in the road. This was just prior to a weapons qual event that was to take place later in the morning. After the area was checked out (on foot) it was determined that IED's were placed in the area. EOD and OSI took over the investigation and recovered all of the devices. I saw a video of one of those devices being detonated under a staged vehicle and it sent it into the air nearly 20 feet. After that incident, we used the new firing range that was still under construction just east of Negrito Village which you saw in the video. As far as Bob Grey's death, I was working Customs and Immigration at MAC Terminal when that event took place..
Thanks for a great video brings back some great memories. Our trip to the range got cut short due to my slip-up. We were shooting the M79 grenade launcher at a hill next to the range. The targets were 55 gallon drums on the side of the hill. Everything went fine until the range officer told me to fire the weapon prone which is hard due to do having to hold the weapon at a very high angle. As I fired at a drum high-up the hill the M79 slipped and my round went over the hill. The rounds were practice round without shrapnel they made a load bang and white smoke. The range officer started screaming for everyone to get back on the truck. We hightailed it out of there and when we got back on base I asked what the big problem was. The range officer told me there's another village on the other side of the hill and they had an armed militia. I never heard any more about the incident so I assume no one was hurt. Crazy stuff happened over there all the time. It kind of choked me up when you showed the dog cemetery, to bad you didn't get Thor's grave on video.
Randy, Have you visit Clark air force base way after that volcano blew up? I never been there but just a drive through from Subic Bay that was in 1993. But I visited subic bay a few times with my relatives.
Hi Lowie. Haven't been back to Clark since I left but was back in the Philippines back in 2003. Visited my wife's province of Zambalas and was surprised at the damage that occurred there from the lahar. Plan to return in the next year or so and will take a look around at what remains of Clark. And thanks for the comments.
Welcome Randy for the comment! My mahals place is about 3 hours drive away her province is in San Manuel Pangasinan but now she lives in Manila in one of the projects in Quezon city.

I heard that the locals had alerted the crew as they were coming down the road heading down to the fire range. Either way, tragedy was averted.
Hey Randy! Any chance I could use some of this footage in my upcoming documentary about Clark Air Base? Thanks!
