Claudio writes the best expression of love and desire towards a person, whether in a healthy or deranged way. He's one of the best and my favorite lyricists of all time period, actually.
For sure, dude is an utter master at what my friend and I lovingly refer to as torture ballads. This like Dark Side of Me, Peace to the Mountain, All that I am, they fall into that category for me. They help me sit so fully in my despair and self doubt and self loathing that once realized, I can dig my way out. Its not hyperbole to say that Claud, and CoCa have helped get me thru life; They have been such an integral part of my existence for past seven years or so (Yeah I jumped on the wagon with YoTBR). They've written the soundtrack to my life. Hell Color Before the Sun helped me come to grips with my reluctance to have a kid. I now have a 10 month old son, and Songs like Atlas, Ghost, Peace to the Mountain helped me no longer fear being a father.
Radix-Vita same effect man. Him, the band, his music, they’re all life savers. If i had a kid id also pass on their work towards the next generation. It’s a perfect expression of emotion in an original and personal way.
obsessed w/ the way he sings "im alone". i expect one of his usual vocal flourishes on a word held that long but its about as unflourished as you can get without holding the same note the whole way through. its very regular, and unexpected, and both of these traits draw attention to the words themselves, making what is already a very stark, naked, and simple statement into something even more so. like a straight punch. and the fact that it's a subversion, that someone whose singing style i am very familiar with didn't do what i was expecting - that in and of itself evokes a feeling of loneliness. like a little betrayal of trust. i have no idea if any of this was intentional or not, but it's a very powerful and interesting effect.
We can't say enough good things about this album. Over a year later, and we're all still jamming to this! These guys are such huge influences for our music, and we can't wait till the next Coheed record!
I overdosed on Tylenol recently and was barely conscious. my best friend sang this to me and it made me feel safe. He fell in love with me that night and he's my boyfriend now.
Best song on the album for me. It's got what I love in a Coheed song. That dry pluck and chug of Claudio's Explorer, Josh giving out a groovy intricate beat (you really can hear his jazz influences)- with a nice staccato bass line that thumps, and then a run out of 'nowhere' by Travis. This is probably the best verse(s) I've heard from Coheed in forever, just in terms of the sheer structure, delivery, cadence, clarity and subject matter in regards to Claudio's articulated/conversational approach. To harp on about the verses of this song more- it really makes the whole track feel more intimate and like it's defiantly significant as a part in the story. It feels very earnest. Something I really haven't heard from Coheed since the Good Apollo years: that desperate earnestness. "Then maybe 'goodbye' will turn to 'goodnight'- oh 'Goodbye' will turn to 'goodnight'- oh..." This line right here is now one of my alltime favorite moments in a Coheed and Cambria song. I can't help but smile. Overall, I get a real 'The Lying Lies & Dirty Secrets Of Miss Erica Court' vibe to this, and that's my favorite Coheed song. I feel like this song could be slipped in to fit nicely along with the Willing Well series. Edit: This is now my favorite Coheed and Cambria song. Of all of them. I never thought it would ever happen that I would enjoy a Coheed and Cambria song as much as my favorite songs from Good Apollo I and IKSIII... Wow. This is seriously beyond all expectations!
I agree, the "Goodbye, Goodnight" part of the verse really takes to the good times when I began listening to Good Apollo back in high school. A beautiful feeling
Loved your thoughts. This was the first song on listen through which grabbed me, because of the verse. These verses could come straight of GA, which is the pinnacle of Coheed. The album is a masterpiece. So when I heard the verse picking, off cuff drums and chords half way through. It got me. This album for me is currently sitting at fourth highest in my rankings after the first three.
I agree with this 120% (although fuel for the feeding end or Evagria The Faithful are debatable favorites for me) but you’re absolutely correct about this being reminiscent of GA 1 especially that “goodbye/goodnight” part I rewound it a couple of times it took me straight back to high school lol
I was gonna ask "don't you fucking love this song?", but that would be a stupid question. One of the best three songs in this album. Just fucking love it.
@Sarah Moreland thanks for shooting your shot my love 14 years plus. Just two kids that became best friends showing each other what love can be. The OG "young dumb broke hs kids"
Wasn't to hot for the new album at first.but just like I wasn't to hot for the first time I heard coheed. As my buddys played it over time, I found my self really groving to the shit. Then i found my self listening to them on my own. Then i loved them. Now i see them live any time they come close to me.Coheed is one of those bands that will grow on you. And as the years pass. You find its your favorite band. I really have so much love for what they all have done over the years. I mean I'm a long time fan. Will be for the rest of my life.
The song simply defines how people fall in love - asking for assurance, panicking and feeling a sense of bliss as you fly away in your imagination. Superb as always !!!
This is my favorite song on the album. I was going through some medical stuff when this album came out. It hit me really hard the support from my wife during it all. This song just embodied that.
oh man when claudio does the scream singing towards the end to the "oh watch me float, oh watch me float" it tickles my pickle quite well.... fuck this song brings me back to that classic coheed sound. Starts at 4:05
Yeah for real- the "Float"s in this song they touch something deep in my soul, they give me chills. This song a lot reminds me of Dark Side of Me, just there is a level of desperation in his voice here that I felt in that song as well or rather makes me feel the same way... A lot in this album does that. The three songs I can't get enough of on it are this, The Pavilion and Toys. Something about that guitar in Toys just gets me pumped.
Sitting here skimming the UA-cam comments and I’m so glad to hear you say that. That lyric was almost changed when Claudio wrote an alternate chorus. Which was heartbreaking for me. I told him “Do you know how many people will relate to this on a powerful level. Those who suffer, like me, from panic attacks.... this is quite powerful. I’m glad he kept it. And I’m glad it spoke to you.
Thanks so much for the response! Anxiety, depression, and mental illness in general are very isolating. I've found the best way of coping is putting it out there and finding just how many others have been silently struggling. My mom was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic when I was in my single digits.. so I grew up with all sorts of weird. Reading the Amory Wars: GAIBSIV comics and seeing struggles of The Writer, I can say I've seen some very similar things growing up! The state of mental healthcare in our current day/age is appalling and tragically only mentioned or addressed when things have hit rock bottom. That all to say, thank you again for keeping this one line and verse. Whether this song or your many others that speak to us fans, keep doing what you guys do!
If Coheed and Cambria made a song about Mac and Cheese or Peanut butter and Jelly it would be awesome. Every song resonates and hits right in your feelings box.
I've been obsessing over this song for almost two years, All of my extremities are crossed for some kind of film clip or re-appreciation. And I haven't done this since I discovered coheed back no world for tomorrow was the hottest shit out.
I still kind of wished claudio put that third harmony in the second verse "Goodbye turn to goodnight" like he did in the first verse... because it definitely made it pop!

Top three greatest love songs:
3: when a man loves a woman
2: I will always love you
1: love protocol

This song is as if ‘Erica Court’, ‘Here to Mars’, and ‘Time Consumer’ had a beautiful love child.
With a few swimmers from The Afterman.
You guys heard that too?!? I was just saying this!! Ahhh!! I love coheed so much
I might be a sensitive little flower but goddamn the chorus brings me to tears.
Naw, got me too. For like a month. Just means you got good taste
Absolutely cannot get enough of this song
Flex on the flex to get flexed

The verse on this song vibes so nicely. I like it even more than the chorus
One of the most underrated drum tracks in recent coheed albums 💯
Theres no reason this song couldn't be on a top ten billboard chart
Beat album since afterman

The most underrated song on this beautifully made album.
Well, shit, this is basically the best thing that's happened to me today. I wouldn't survive quarantine without you, Coheed. Yall keep me sane.
I overdosed on Tylenol recently and was barely conscious. my best friend sang this to me and it made me feel safe. He fell in love with me that night and he's my boyfriend now.

The most versatile band I have ever liked. They slowly have become my favorite band over the years.
The details. The details like the guitar scrape at 3:21 is exactly what makes coheed the greatest band in the world.

470k views and 2k plus likes. Disgusting.. needs way more likes after this much time.
This one and pavilion..so good. I like the entire album.
The chorus in this song is easily one of C&C's best. That "SWEET VERTIGOOOOOOO~" hits so fuckin hard.
Holy shit, this is so different for Coheed but THAT MOTHERFUCKING CHORUS OH MY GOD I CAN'T GET ENOUGH.
