I experienced an increase of 3pts of Alk in one week after servicing my trident and had to shut down my two part for 1week and the numbers have come down to the range I’m usually around at 8.3-8.8 my P04 has stayed around 0.05. Informative video Travis. 👍 Glad your tank has stabilized without too much damage incurred.
100% true they are stressed from the spikes and don’t consume as much as they use to. Once they are adjusted to the changes you will have to go back to the number you use to dose but slowly
Podcast sounds good, glad you’re taking care of yourself!
I really like this kind of breakdown with the trident.. good stuff
Always helps when you share the downs . Thank you.
Man you got one hell of a setup down there bro looking good
This guys the Heisenberg of fish!
This is some mad scientist shit holy crap nice setup
For those not understanding in the comments - He overdosed po4 and shocked the corals. The corals stopped growing in turn they stopped consuming calcium/alkalinty. It has nothing to do with po4 having a chemical reaction with alk. Good video Travis. Thats a double blow on swings. Now its just a waiting game for them to recover.
Correct and everything is already back to normal
Wrong, phosphate does bind to calcium, it’s basic chemistry. Google it
Yea ive had similar experience using the trident. Its great to stop disasters.
The apex and trident saved u alot of headache / big losses here. It showed kh creeping up in hours instead of days and gave u the opportunity to act immediately.
Thanks for the video man. I just bought a bottle of Nitrogen (Nitrate+) today to raise nutrient as my tank is experiencing a dino outbreak. Tried UV didn't work, tried adding lots of live pods didn't work, tried live phytoplankton didn't work. So frustrating. Now I've stopped doing wc and stopped skimmer too to raise nutrient and hope for the best
From what I understand of this, it is the addition of the nitrates through supplements that increases alkalinity. I think it is 50ppm of nitrates to 2.3dKH. The one exception is for sulfur denitrators, that is a different chemical conversion.
Ive seen the same thing on my tank but from what ive read alk increases due to nutrient consumption. Curious have you tested nutrients a couple days after to see if there dropping quickly? Comparing notes 🧐
How do I find the video on making the nitrate and phosphate solutions yourself?
What was your percentage of your testing bottles in the trident at the time of your testing???
I like your tank stand! What company made it, if you don’t mind me asking. Peace!

Interesting, wonder at what point the nutrients impacts alk uptake.
I know that high levels in general can slow growth but what happened here was the spike in PO4 that shocked the corals and stopped the growth for a little while.
@@FishOfHex Hi, Does your charting show at what number that decline starts? I'm assuming somewhere at 0.17 p04 as we're constantly told to keep below that level.
My alk fluctuates so much I still don’t know how to stabilize it I’ve tried a lot of strategies
Here I am dosing 3 ml a day to slowly bring mine up and Travis dumps in half a jug and says YOLO with a new house worth of coral …
I’ve had this same exact problem. Whenever I bring my nitrates and phosphates up from 0 to just the slightest low level (3ppm nitrate 0.015 phosphate) my corals suffer and start to RTN.
I am really confused, my alk didn’t spike. And I’ve never heard of anyone having this issue.
My opinion is your po4 is too low relative to your nitrate, if you're gonna bring both up get po4 to or above .05 before you bring nitrate into the detectable range.
Which is a different problem than what foh had which is simply shock from a massive po4 spike.
Or just make changes slowly instead of dumping in a tonne of nutrients all at once.
life altering, FINALLY got started on that sex change 🤔
