Compared to 18mm f1.4 you loose a little resolution and sharpness, but for street photogrpahy and quick snaps is more than sufficient

It took me a long time to break down and buy the 18mm f/2 because of all the negative comments on the internet. When I finally did get one (new-in-the-box), I was angry with myself for not getting it sooner.
I agree with all of your comments about the size and weight making this a joy to carry around. Additionally, when going out with a two-lens kit for the day, the slightly wider focal length of the 18mm make the next logical lens, the 50mm f/2 more versatile versus the 23mm/50mm combo.
I think Fujifilm did a good thing with their first three XF lenses, the 35mm f/1.4, the 60mm f/2.4 and this 18mm f/2. Some people want a flawless clinical rendering which is fine if that's what you like. The early XF lenses give a look that might not correlate to some measurement on a test chart, but they have that intangible "character" that looks real and relatable if you came up in the film days.
Nice review. What about the AFC performance of 18mmf2 with XT5 sensor? (Eg bike or kid running scenario)
looks like you've found your perfect street combo🤙..I picked 16 mm 2..8 over this one recently..and so far very pleased with the results..Light,nice lookin,super sharp and fits great on my xe3 body..

If you think that using 18mm f2 on X-T5 was actually an upgrade according the results with the 5th generation sensor, i think this underrated lens will be a great combo with X-T50 too since that line also pretty small, light and compact. Of course if X-T50 comes with the new generation 40 megapiksel sensor, but it'll be most likely. Otherwise, Fujifilm wouldn't skip X-T40 and call it X-T50. This is just a rumor yet but most of the rumors were correct which i read from fujirumors and i believe this will be too. After i watch your video and some other videos which is mentioning such a lot underrated lens is this, i am going to buy one 18mm f2 for using on my X-T5 and upcoming second camera X-T50. What do you think Tudor?
This is the only option for the moment, but it will not resolve the 40mp but the results are very good if you don't need the resolution. The lenses that shines on the 40mp sensor are the new WR Fuji lenses and Voigtlander Ultron 27mm f2.
The 18mm f2 is a great lens, and is one of those lenses that make Fujifilm such a fun system to use.

if I may ask about your experience and please correct me if I am wrong.
Today I received my Fujifilm 18mm f2 lens, it's a used one from a reputed camera shop. the moment I attached the lens I noticed it started focusing hunting and making noise as if it was trying to focus without me pressing the shutter button. I have two other lenses 18-55mm and 56mm, and neither of these two lenses do that stuttering when attached. am I missing something here?
It doesn't happen this to me.
try turning off continuous autofocus
Or turning off pre-af if it's activated
