  • We make our way over to the Lofoten islands, northern Norway, to check out the disputable "most scenic view" in Norway. Then over to Henningsvaer to get some rock climbing in, before moving further north and finding what is probably the most beautiful anchorage we have ever been to.

    "Why do you want to go to Norway?" After watching this, the question has to be "why wouldn't you want to go to Norway?". Great photography, music and, of course, commentary. I've forwarded to climbing as well as sailing friends........

    An excellent video that showcases the natural beauty that is Norway. I really enjoyed the vistas from the climb you did and the harbors there are so lovely and quaint! Your last anchorage spot was very scenic and had a variety of terrain. Looks like beach access was outstanding!
    I have a friend, Erik Aanderaa, whose UA-cam channel is 'NBJS' and he's based out of Haugesund. He's been trying to solo sail to Greenland and has gotten as far as Iceland a couple of times but something always comes up! You might look him up online sometime.
    I live and sail in SE Alaska. Very much a fjordland, with glaciers, icebergs, seals, whales, Orca, bears and salmon. The wildlife here is amazing and abundant. I own a nicely restored Catalina 27 sailboat and while she's small, she's modified for cold weather and her rigging is reinforced, as are her cleats. I do have to pic my weather carefully but she does well in 10-15 knots and can sleep 3 on berths that have been modified to make them larger when needed. She also has a custom galley, the size you'd find on a 38' boat. If Alaska is ever on your list, I can make some recommendations. Here's a video I shot last year, using my drone: ua-cam.com/video/aKdjoKizrrM/v-deo.html

      We never planned to make any videos but after this trip we found we had so much amazing footage and our experience of sailing in the higher latitudes was something we wanted to share with people who may find it of interest rather than just boring our family and friends.

    hi. what pilot book do u use for sailing lofoten island and appl for navigation. thanks

    • @SailingHiraeth
      @SailingHiraeth  Рік тому +4

      We used the Imray/RCCPF Norway guide and the "Norwegian Cruising Guide" (There are several regional editions of this one).
      For Navigation, we use Navionics+ charts on the chart plotter, O-Charts on OpenCPN on a laptop, and we also carry paper charts.

    • @SailingHiraeth
      @SailingHiraeth  Рік тому +2

      www.norwegiancruisingguide.com/
      This is the one we used they are all in English.
      kartverket.no/til-sjos/nautiske-publikasjoner/den-norske-los
      These are also very useful if you can translate, though the one for Svalbard and Jan Mayen is in English.

      We have to clear into customs and passport control at designated ports when we arrive in a new country, this has become slightly harder now the UK has left the European Union.
