    I have just discovered your channel. I studied drawing under the venerable Pam Hallendal here in Melbourne Australia (she has won our most prestigious drawing prize twice) and your loose but controlled style really appeals to me. I find too many people who are trying their lines perfectly neat and in orderly rows… I very much enjoy watching you work! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

      I aim for ‘perfectly imperfect’ and I have just googled Pam Hallandal. What amazing work. Was she really inspiring?

    Your Speaking out loud exactly the choices you have and the reason for your decisions, really helps me get into your head. I always want to know the how and why of everything and you definitely satisfy that for me. Love how you teach. So real.

    Liz, just recently discovered your channel. It’s much appreciated that you’re willing to share your experience and skills. I have a friend coming in a few days and we’re considering heading out to try some urban sketching. I primarily do calligraphy with watercolours for art envelopes and a while back saw a video on Kakimori brass dip pens which hold a LOT of ink and can create thin and very thick lines, and everything in between it seems. You might want to check out one of the video reviews on UA-cam. They don’t look anything like traditional nibs.

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому

      I’m aware of the Kakimori nibs and they look amazing, but the nib on its own is at least £50 so sadly, I won’t be adding it to my collection!

    Thank you so very much. Art in general should give us hope. And its such bad weather out there so to speak. Terrible times. Nothing seems to be in place. Inspiring video.

      Never give up hope. Art tells us we have more in common than the little which divides us.

    Hi Liz, thank you so much for this lovely video. I am just getting into dip pens. What brand/kind of glass dip pen do you recommend?

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому +1

      I just buy the prettiest one I see! Look for one with spiral grooves in the nib rather than straight.

    Wonderful Video!! Where did you get that beautiful glass pen? It was amazing what you could do with it. Time to play with my ink more, I love line work.

      @LizChadertonArt  2 роки тому +2

      If you look on Amazon or eBay there are so many glass pens, you’ll be spoilt for choice. from a few pounds if you are prepared to wait for them to come from China, but not overly expensive and lovely to use.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial! Greatly appreciated. Just curious - when necessary, how do you clean the waterproof ink off your hands?

    • @LizChadertonArt

      soap and water, but it takes some scrubbing 😊

    Have you tried a dip pen with watercolour instead of ink? I've read it's good for leaf veins and thin lines etc.

    Hi Liz, I;m enjoying your ideas of using coffee but one thing I don't understand...do you use cold press for coffee? Because you state "coldpress/not" Regards, Steve

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому +1

      in the UK cold press is called Not paper. I put both names to help those in North America!

      @@LizChadertonArt Awesome, thanks Liz..who would have known...from Canada btw :)

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому

      @@secondlife5704 I know! There are a few things to trip us artists up! Masking fluid = frisket, NOT = cold press, a picture mount is a mat…. Those are the ones which spring to mind, but it’s early here

    So Im new to this so can you use watercoloured paper with dip pens?? I thought it had to be like cartridge paper so it doesnt damage them

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  8 місяців тому

      if you want lots of fine detail, you can use a smooth paper. if you want more texture, it can interfere with the line, but a Not (medium) watercolour paper isn’t very rough and I think it adds to the artwork. Nibs won’t get damaged. You might find if the paper is soft fibres get caught, but you can remove them easily. Just have a go and see if you like it.

    Do u prefer watercolour or Bristol paper for ink ? First time user 😂

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  2 місяці тому +1

      I prefer watercolour paper. If you are doing very detailed line work then a smoother paper may be better, but I like a bit of texture

    Thank you for sharing I am inspired.. It would be lovely to know which make of dip pen you are using, I have found my nibs dont hold well in my pen handle

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  2 роки тому

      I will take a look and see if there are any markings. I have nips from all over and I think the handles came from Seawhite of Brighton, but I’ll check

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  2 роки тому

      I've checked and there is no name on any of the handles I have - they are wooden and came from Seawhite, but if they are not holding the nib properly it could be the metal bit at the end is bent out of shape. can you push the prongs back? It should be snug. The handle is only a £1-2 so it might be time for a new one?

    Can acrylic ink be used with those pens?

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  2 роки тому +1

      it will depend on the type of acrylic ink. I have some thin ink which works great and thicker, that doesn’t. clean the pen carefully after.
