Hi love Sheffield where I was born and my dad he was in the fire service there to, it's changed so much since left, my dad worked at the old fire station in division Street I'll have to show him many years ago now thank u
Sheffield is definitely an awesome big busy city with lots of historical buildings especially churches and the many stores/shops, restaurants/cafes/pubs and other various interesting areas of Sheffield, this was another fantastic part of your walking tour thank you until next time. 🇬🇧🤠🤠🇬🇧
09:51 Slight pedantic correction - there's actually 4 theatres in Tudor Square as there's also the Crucible Studio (the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse). "Standing At The Sky's Edge" writer Chris Bush made notable use of this with the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" trilogy of plays which were performed simultaneously with actors running between the theatres.
I lived in Sheffield for,3 years. Absolutely loved it. I got married in the town hall and had our wedding photos in the peace gardens. It was a fabulous day 😊
I just love your videos on Sheffield probably because I’m born and bred here, and I learn something new from you never knew it was a cathedral , knew it was there but that is very interesting been on wiki to read about it , the city centre is taking shape maybe us sheffielders don’t give it a enough credit great place Sheffield we just don’t shout about it enough like Liverpool Manchester or Birmingham…..
Great look at Sheffield. I'm sure all the redevelopment is what's needed but I hope it's being done with reflection for the past. The Winter Gardens look fantastic and what a wonderful place to relax. Nice architecture and a vibrant looking centre. Thanks for showing us your home town Neil 👍
After hearing you say about the crime and not being a safe place I was expecting Sheffield city centre to be all like the movie The Full Monty.Very surprised to see how clean and tidy the city centre was and that things are on the way up.
when i lived there as a teen across the road from the Crucible theatre was a place called Bonapartes casino and also Roxy night club. It looks very alien to me now i feel it was better then.
Hopefully Sheffield can out do Leeds for a change since they seem to get all the Yorkshire praise being the best place with Manchester too, to visit and live. We always get forgotten.
@@GimbalWalkTV I remember when Meadowhall opened folks where prediction a city centre apocalypse. But it looks pretty energised. I'm a Sheffielder in exile (22 years in HK) good to see the old place 🙂
Haven't been to the city centre in years, there's nothing there, great for Uni students, but that's all. Couldn't even tell you what the bus fare is to town from Gleadless. So much money being spent down there and none where I live. There's a piece of land next to the Co-Op on Constable road that has been empty for years. They could build small workshops on it and create jobs for local people, rather than spend more money so that students can get drunk.
Why spend money in an area where half the residents would wreck whatever improvements were made? Sorry, but it's true. Sheffield fell behind other cities because they tried to spread the money around and spent a fortune on the areas that needed more money six months later to repair the damage done by idiots, who have been brought up by idiots. The City Centre is the City. That's it's flagship and the City Centre always decides whether a City is successful or not. Does anyone who visits Leeds, Manchester, or anywhere else come to think of it care that some of the areas of those cities are shitholes ? No, of course they don't, and to be honest neither does Leeds or Manchester City Councils
@@GimbalWalkTV It really isn't..... If you think Sheffield is even a decade within where Leeds and Manchester are at you're deluding yourself. It's a shadow of where it was even in the 90s. Leeds and Manchester went down but are now way ahead. Leeds is fastest growing city in UK. Sheffield City Centre is now on its THIRD attempt at regeneration in 25 years. And this one seems to gave failed already as Sheffield CC can't sell any vacant sites it owns next to all the new buildings!! I work in property. Trying to get any investment in Sheffield is like pushing milk uphill.
Manchesters urban population is 2.9 million vs 800k for Sheffield, so it’s no wonder there’s more demand for shops there, luckily we are a unique green city so much better than other cities :)
@@Beau_monk Manchester doesn't have 2.9 million people. The county of Greater Manchester might have about 2.3 million, but Manchester is just a city in Greater Manchester. That's like saying Sheffield's population is 1.8 million because that's the population of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.
@@MrJonnyblade I said urban population, all stats are online and Manchester’s is like 3 times higher than Sheffield’s, we are surrounded by green space, Manchester is surrounded by built up areas. There’s a lot more people living in the area surrounding Manchester City than Sheffield city = more people living locally means far more people to visit the city

Thank you - yes was a good chance to have a nosey round Sheffield!
The Steel Balls art installation are a nice contrast to all the angular shapes of the buildings....I like public space art...should be more of it 😊
Agreed!
I’m just editing a Spain video where there’s lots of it and have just said how lovely it is to see

It'll be great in a few months as it all opens up!
We were in sheffield recently visiting my daughter. The Peace Garden & Town hall area is beautiful

The rest of the city is nearly finished and will be great when open this summer

Thabk you ❤️
i've seen Motorhead, Meatloaf,Saxon, Metallica,Anthrax,Testament, and Unfortunately Bon Jovi..and best of all Jethro Tull
Bet that was great!
Were Bon Jovi rubbish then?
Division Street, closed to motor vehicles, but still has a 20mph speed limit!
think that's for the drunk students who like to run up and down there on a Saturday night 🤣

Love Sheffield.
Nothing better than the people who come from this fine city, and the mighty SWFC of course
What a lovely little film, i really like the titbits of info on the texts 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Been to Sheffield many times, but you showed me areas I've never been to Neil! Thanks duck! ;)
Yes the Crucible. Before was Adelphi Hotel founding please of The Owls 63, Blades 67.
I love Sheffield ❤
Same ❤️❤️
Hello you! Loved the video. I am coming to visit in mid May. Could you please make a walking tour of Thurlstone?
I haven't lived there since 1974, and apart from The Crucible I barely recognize Sheffield; it's a beautiful city. I loved The Winter Gardens.

I attended Earl Marshal school in Fir Vale.

How about a Doncaster City Walk Through Please Love your Videos,
Had that planned the other day actually but got rained off but have it in my filming plans so definitely yes! 👍

Sheffield will always be behind with no airport. Leeds and Manchester attract more global business, employ more people.
Don’t think that will happen, have you been to Leeds lately, massive investment just now
I thought u were going 2 Forget def leppard 🤘🤘🤘😂
I went to see Paul Weller at the City hall a fews weeks ago 😊

Yes very much so
Can't beat the steel city of sheffield!
I been there before
Where is everyone?
I filmed at a very quiet time
The steel balls remind me of snooker balls.
Ah yeah! Wonder if that is what they’re supposed to be?
