Some years ago I saw Jimmy play with Allan Holdsworth on Cleveland's west side at the Winchester. Allan was great (of course), but Jimmy held down the fort like no one else. The drummer (who's name escapes me) was also amazing and the two worked together beautifully. A pretty big accomplishment considering the complexity of the music. First bassist I've seen that could actually extract double bass-like sounds from an electric. Seems like a down to earth guy from this interview. Very cool.
...as well as fretted...but that (fretless) tone is not the sound I'm relating to. Hard to describe, but he had a thumpy, hollow tone more akin to a double.
Jimmy is the classiest dude in music.
This was great, Jimmy is brilliant!
That was a lot. Great interview. Thank you.
