If Kentucky wins a title under mark Pope on his first year. There better be a movie made. Because that is crazy how he came in with a program that was on the serious decline and no players or staff was left when he took the job. Completely started from scratch in a very short amount of time. Pope should at least get coach of the year guy has done incredible so far.
UK could 100% win the title this year. They have veterans, and they have a team where a different guy can step up and beat you. Teams don’t have the luxury of being able to focus on one guy and shut him down and hope for a win. Also, like what was said earlier, these guys love Mark Pope and will run through a wall for him. The only team that may be better than UK is Auburn, and what makes Auburn special is the same reason why UK is special.
I think Tennessee is on that level too. Infact I'd say Kentucky Auburn Tennessee aren't only the best 3 in the SEC but I'd also say the 3 best in the country.
Tenn, Auburn, Kentucky. As of right now one of those teams is cutting down the nets in March. After what Pope & co have done in their first 11 games at Kentucky you can’t seriously say they don’t have what it takes. Who is beating them on a neutral court? Like that’s the thing. March isn’t played home and home. It’s all neutral. So, I’ll take those 3 teams to a final 4 if 2 of them aren’t in the same bracket as a 1-2.
Auburn looks scary good. I definitely think this UK team has what it takes to go to a final 4 but like always the draw and a few breaks matter. I wanna see way better defense and rebounding before I start thinking deep runs but I love my team.
@BrandonGavin_EDC as a UK fan, Auburn is scary. Their big is scary efficient. Our weakness is our big. Williams can't hang with their guy, and our rebounding has been suspect. Auburn could beat us in the interior and if our shots aren't falling, game over
They could definitely win the national title. We all remember UConn’s run as 7 seed. Butler was on the 2023 final four all tournament team. He’s built for big moments. We’ve seen guards go on 2 final runs. Jalen Brunson 2016, 2018 2 runs in 3 years, Shabazz Napier 2011 as freshman, 2014 as senior, Kemba Walker 09, 2011.
This year? I doubt it but the team and staff put Pope put together in 4 weeks is just amazing. Take a really good coach who is smart and give him the support and resources and good things happen. This is a really good team that isn't physical enough to win a Title but it will also be Pope's least talented team and that should be a scary thought for UK haters.
Kenny sky walker in 1986, losing a few years there Jeffery. Louisville is really solid, they play hard. If they had about 2 more legit players they would be tough. I agree top 4 ACC team.
Kentucky would be 10 and 0 right now if they had a healthy Lamont Butler against Clemson!!!! When Kentucky's hitting their threes, they can beat anybody at any time!!!
The last several Kentucky teams we felt could win it all or lose in the first round. This team you can feel a deep tournament run coming. And they’re good enough to win it all.
Sky Walker def didn’t do so in 96’! lol That being the Pope title squad.. More like 86’ vs GT’own in the game that still haunts fans as just blowing it in 2nd half.. Can’t blame it on Sky Walker, 11 of 11 from the floor
One thing not mentioned about KY’s spotlight inexperience. Pope is clearly doing an impeccable job cutting through the noise and getting through to this team off the court. I have full confidence that off the court distractions won’t have an affect on the tesm.
I love Kentucky, and am happy for Lamont! Concern yesterday was that L'ville got a step on our Wildcats defenders almost every Cardinal offensive possession. Our Cats often recovered, but speed could be a problem.
UL shot 50+% from 3 and out rebounded UK by 15+ and UK still almost won by double digits. That is very rare. UL fans saying we barely won dont know the ins and outs of basketball. Its sad.

As a Kentucky fan I'm worried about SEC play! You have to rebound and play good defense unless your hitting 13-15 3 pointers a game then it really doesn't matter but if we struggle at the 3 its going to be a long night !

Jeff Goodman is a bum! He talked all that trash about Kentucky before the year and put his foot in his mouth! He never admits when he is wrong! Only when he's right which is 2% of the time!
We have flaws. Our defense was pretty poor last night. Louisville had too many open looks and offensive rebounds. We need Williams, Brea, and Garrison to step up their intensity

The Kentucky Louisville rivalry is the best in college basketball. You could argue north Carolina and duke but both rivalries have 11 combined championships. Yes one of Louisvilles have been vacated but 2 of north Carolinas should be vacated. They were making up classes or guys wouldn't have been able to play! As a Kentucky fan its disgusting what they've let north Carolina and Kansas get away with but took Louisville's championship away after Pitino was found not guilty!
Ok Alex Jones. Nothing UNC did compared to bringing in stripper/prostitutes for like 2 seasons. And I'm pretty certain most every major program has had their share of cupcake courses. Matt Leinart had a ballroom dancing class, FFS.
UL stayed in the game mostly by taking quite a few more shots, their 1st half off. rebounding, and 3-pt shooting. Butler was tremendous, but he did miss 5 FTs. That just boggles the mind. He, Williams, Kriisa, and Robinson need to shore up their shooting from the line and on 3s. Btw, Kenny Walker went 11-11 in '86 not '96.
The only thing stopping Uk from winning it all is their big men inconsistently missing little bunny shots and free throws. In March the game slows down and they HAVE TO POUND THE PAINT WITH THEIR 2 big men. This is literally how the championships are won. Big men, rebounding, and free throws
