the tone when she dips into her low notes is so pleasant and soothing. I usually like very high-pitched female voices, but her lower voice is beautiful, even kind of hot.
As I was goin' to the fair of Dingle One fine mornin' last July A fine young man came up behind me "Red-haired Mary!" he did cry "Will you come with me, my red-haired Mary? The donkey, he can carry two" I looked at him, my eyes did twinkle My cheeks, they were a rosy hue "Thank you kindly, sir" I answered Then I tossed my light red hair Says I "Will you hold the donkey? And I'll ride with you to the Dingle fair" And when we reached the town of Dingle He caught my hand to say goodbye When a tinker, he pulled up behind him Hit him right in his left eye "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" Well, he was feelin' very peevish His poor eye was sad and sore He kicked the tinker with his hobnails Knocked him through Tom Murphy's door He galloped off to meet his father The tallest man you e'er did see Tapped him gently with his knuckles And now he's missing two front teeth Oh, wasn't I the happy cailín? "Man, with you I'll go!" I said "Never mind the priest this very morn Tonight we'll sleep in Murphy's shed!" "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" Around the corner came a peeler Told him I had broke the law Donkey kicked him on the knee He fell down and broke his jaw Through the fair we rode together His black eye and my red hair Gazing gaily at the tinker Weren't we the happy pair? "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!"
Super!!!Bravo!!!!Ни слова не понимаю,но до чего же красивый,певучий ирландский язык!!!А танцы какие прекрасные!!!Живи Ирландия!!!Живи родина кельтов!!! DERVISH- у нас переводится как странник.
I've seen Dervish a couple of times in concert, and Cathy Jordan captured the audience better than anyone else I've seen. I swear that woman has leprechaun blood. She defines personality.
Melquisedec Mary I've never met one (as far as I know) but I gather they come in various of forms. They don't all wear hats. The name you post under is intriguing. Is it real? Is it a Florida thing?
Dervish ye would make a body dance from inside, Cathy Jordan sings with a Quality from another world & time perhaps the underworld Fearie she is, her musical vocals are a treat to the ears, a Musical Maestro Band out there with their own style.
Cathy Jordan is, in my opinion, one of the best singers in the world. She has a mystique to her voice that I've never heard anywhere else. The harmonica player is Rick Epping.
I'm fairly certain the harp (aka harmonica) came to be a standard part of celtic music in the 20th century. It's not indigenous to the Irish or the celts, but it fits in nicely with the traditional reed and pipe instruments. :)
@TijnB42 Interesting to know and I love so much playing my harps along with many of the wonderful Irish bands out there; of course i'm partial to the harmonica and think it sounds great with most all music :~)
well, I dare say you were the best thing ever your first few years on the road hungry in small bars and we all danced drunk and happy and felt as one. What the hell is with the people sitting and clapping in their seats? I know its hard, but screw the cash and go back underground, its not too late! Love! : ) (should you happen to read
@KingdomUploader harp(harmonica) has been used in celtic tunes for a very long time. One of the first tunes I learned on harmonica was "The Blarney Pilgrim". I don't know exactly when it was introduced to the Irish, but there's a big repertoire for it, so I assume the Irish have been at it a good while. :)
@KingdomUploader Though it's not used very much, the harmonica is considered traditional by Comhaltas, there's a category for it at the Fleadhanna too.
The harmonica practically plays itself on songs like "Red Haired Mary".It lends itself to the natural suck/blow/pause nature of Celtic music.Anyway, great rendition.
@jimmyriddle100 very good argument, don't feel bad mate you can just admit that you was wrong about Cathy Jordan(the singer),everyone can hear that she is wonderful.
What a fine surprise to find this; rhm is one of my top three fav songs by them. i love that you posted this; its a great live performance. Dervish was my first exposure to celtic. Is the harmonica played on any other tune? it's not traditional is it? Thanks again and know that you have unsurpassable worth! Live long and prosper, even as your soul prospers. kevin
its a shame that this very talented group cant find someone who can sing, this woman cant sing in the same key as the music remember the eurovision!!!!!!!
@jimmyriddle100 oh my...i am scared....donk....if you have been playing music for many years and can't admit that this is a good voice,i am sorry mate, but stop playing music....
@linos1987 ok, first off im not your mate,i have been playing music professionally for many years.i have played on the same stage as this!! wonderful !! singer.you champion.you are such an expert you cant use proper diction ,,example { you was wrong }.you know as much about music as my dog..........slan..!!!
@jimmyriddle100 are you stoned or something???,maybe you have stones in your ears, she is absloutly fantastic, very very talented singer.and you are probably not musicaly educated because you are taking eurovision as an example......
Sacrificing feeling for speed. An awful version. Not a patch on the Makem & Clancy version! Cathy Jordan might be better off as an auctioneer if speed is her thing :-)
More likes on her version than the old one. All art is subjective and I guess this is just Cathy's way of doing the song. It does not mean it is better or worse, just a different style for a different audience (or for people like me who enjoy both!).
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 I guess it's changed in the last 2 years, since I made that comment, lol. All I was saying is that they are both different, neither is awful, plenty of people like them both.

I love Cathy Jordan's voice and her spirit - she so effortless and full of life.
By far the best version of this song
Prefer Tom Clancy's version, of the Clancy Brothers, myself.
Both versions come at the song from a slightly different angle. So I really cannot disagree with you.

Best presentation of this song I've heard. She is terrific!

Oh, right. Makes me wonder what her mother got up to during the Lughnasa festivities.

Rrrrrrra! What a fantastic song, I always have to listen to it twice.
A class act - lovely voice.
Brilliant - never heard this before - love it.

Just watched this on the programme aired on RTE last night. They were brilliant as usual :)

Great version of the Makem/Clancy song. How can you not like this!
You, ma'am, are an amazing singer. Thank you all. This song is so unique and impressive!
One of those rare times a cover of a Tommy Makem song works out better than the original in many ways. :)
+Matvei Vellman Not a Tommy Makem song...he may have sung it but the song was composed by a great Kerry man Seán McCarthy...

Thanks, mate! :)

Hope to see them in Cork on 1st October, great group

The harmonica is in the album version too. And the harmonica is played in other songs in this DVD too

i'll be in beautyfull Kerry (Ballinskeligs) next june; can't wait!
Harmonica is not a traditional Irish instrument, but it's easy to play Irish tunes on them, so trad bands employ them often. :) (I play harp myself)

Old mate at 1:41 is just coming up on a yoke!
@streetgangtm i know! she's the only celebrity i have ever had a crush on
@ Meard - you can find the "male" lyrics and backstory at chivalry.com/cantaria/lists/alpha.html. This website is my fall-back for traditional lyrics.
Love Cathy Jordan!

They finished last place at Eurovision 2007. The band is pretty decent , the singer not so much.
+sevenxx7 Not a great decision by a folk band to sing in the Eurovision...Does anybody actually sing in the Eurovision anymore?
Correction: Cathy is amazing, Eurovision stuff does not suit her. That's not a bad thing!
Eurovision is uter sh... Finishing last in Eurovision is a badge of honour.
