- I matched up scenes from the new Avatar 2 trailer with the first movie, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out . The video can be viewed in 4K as it's two 1080p videos stacked on top of each other (so it's 2160 pixels tall!)

I've noticed Neytiri looks a lot more like Zoe here, especially in the scene when she says "this is our home"

The facial capture in the new one is so much better, very subtle but way effective in expression.
They look much more human-like than the 1st movie
I’ve watched the 2nd movie twice now. And I think it is overall a visual upgrade from the first. But imo, the eye expressions in the first movie look way more natural and expressive. I found that lacking in the new one; eyes would sometimes look like they’re blank or staring off into space or just seem a little out of sync from the rest of the face.

The motion capture technology and the emotions look way more natural in the new one but to be honest I prefer the punchy purple/blue aesthetic of the first movie. The forests in the new one look like regular earth forests with different creatures and plants. The first one had a very magical vibe to it.

@@he-ch1559 oh hell yeah, watching the movie nowadays there are some scenes where they move so stiff and awkwardly. Plus you can tell that James Cameron didn’t really have an idea of how he wanted the Navi children to look... those fuckers were hideous omg

The way she moved and drew her bow was so inhuman it was wierd. Still loved the movie though.
That’s only because they are mostly showing us the kids faces and they still have human dna in them since Jake is an avatar.
@@rawrisiloveuindinify no I didn’t mean it like that at all. I meant that the facial animations are more realistic. Had nothing to do with what the characters are designed to look like.

The new one looks great but the first ones personally have better designs and more magical feel to it

what?? did we watch the same movies?? dont get me wrong the first one is good but the second one and the graphics are so much better. The facial movements and the eye tracking is so good. The scenery for the second one? dont get me started

Some scenes are very beautiful (and some just look like an average video game nowadays - you just have to keep a good eye on it; but this is the play Cameron knows how to play- you cannot stay focus 100% during a 3 hour movie, so he adds beautiful detail and scenes where he knows people will want this wow-factor like the water scenes and on the other hand - some scenes where they fly or where machines are involved - it just looks very basic video game like). I don't like too much cgi in general and I don't like 3D as I noticed how basic the story gets because all focus is on the 3D...But it's a matter of taste. I understand that you cannot create avatar without using so much cgi. And I watched the second movie hoping that I will get this wow-effect like others, but it didn't work again. I was disappointed in both movies. But well - You cannot like everything, right? :D I didn't like avengers endgame, too. It's another cgi overload with very thin story...and the basic idea itself... :D But this is another topic.

The whole point of avatar is the extraterrestrial life, the connections to all life forms and how beautiful life is without capitalism and politics (basically things that separate us). There is no poor or rich just leadership and citizens working together and bonding as one. You're looking at the movies just for the CGI and how much they use when you should be look at it as the characters world that they are living in. You think too literal and no wonder you dont like scifi movies. Scifi is quite literally science fiction, I'm not sure what you were expecting and suprised when alot of CGI is used. It's kinda funny how this beautiful world known as pandora is just seen as your "everyday video game". People 100 years ago wouldve thought what they were looking at is a dream. We really need to appreciate more
@@HeartXXBlack that's weird, its the opposite for me. The first one give me more of a video game vibe and the second feel way more magical. overall this is one of my favorite movies now, but I happen to like eye-candy movies lol.
Avatar 1 introduced a whole new world to the audience. The 2nd Movie is epic and huge but it did not suprise me nearly as much since most of the elements were seen in the first movie. Also the fights were so big in the first one between humans and navis but the 2nd movie had a big ship against a clan of navis. I guess there will be alot more to come and way of water did not disapoint me at all, but the first one is unbeatable to this day.
The new one has a lot more editing in it, and don’t get me wrong it’s amazing, but I really loved the way they did the environment in the first movie. And the face shapes of the avatars are different and I loved how they did the faces in the first one.
The florest were more colorful in the first movie with all the neon plants. They promise a whole water world for the second movie but the water scenes isnt that far away from earth, I mean the color and coral reefs are similar.

avatar 4 how dangerous THE NAVI are when combined with EYWA
the final is avatar 5 how dangerous and monstrous are Humans NaVi journey to earth.

I feel like they made the noses slightly more human like in the new one. Am I the only one noticing that? I prefer the way they looked in the face in the first one because they look less like human beings.

Yeah they changed the faces in a few ways--like you, what i liked about the old one was how exotic/alien/just different they were, super cool and sexy

The fact that the CGI holds up even after 13 years is a feat of wonder in and of itself. You could easily release the first Avatar in 2022 and affects-wise we'd still be impressed.

Avatar 2 will probably be an incredible and amazing experience, but Avatar will always give me that sense of beauty and reality. That way of beginning into a new.

You are blind the new one has way better rendering detail, there are multiple layers of detail while the old one was clearly more limited, its more realistic in every way

while from a technical point of view the new movie is better in every way, from a design perspective i prefer the setting in the first movie more and i also find the na'vi look better in the first one.

The fact they both have huge differences is unbelievable. It shows how much they improved over time.
I personally think the visuals look better in the first movie, the visuals still hold up even though it’s over 11 years old, everything looks more natural of an alien word and species if they were real, whereas the new movie looks like an over saturated video game, it may look better on the big screen and once it’s released digitally for our tv screens at home but this trailer didn’t sell it for me as being better visually, I still wanna see it though

As a 3D artist... The fidelity in the second movie is ridiculous and in some scenes the characters look 100% photorealistic. The only reason we know it's heavy CG is because the movie is so outlandish
1:01 I love the contrast between Grace and Kiri so much.
Look at the colours in the original man. You've the entire spectrum of the colour gamut. And so many lighting variations between shots and shadow play. And it looks so real ! The motion capture is better for this one, but it just looks like a bunch of scenes of blue and green. I don't apply this to myself, But I have a feeling a lot of people. Especially reviewers, will get bored by the monotone nature of this colour palette for 3 hours.

I agree. The colors of the first look more realistic despite having neon plants, the second have color grading of videogame, color are stronger but monotone.

I think the CGI is better in the original. There's a nicer dark filter over it or something. It helps hide the fact that it's quite clearly animation.
Wrong in every way. Watch the scenes again in 4K and 60fps and you will see the CGI is sooo much better in the upcoming sequel.
Avatar is a cartoon , nothing more, a blue cartoon 😀

So many people here saying that the avatars are more humanlike with strange noses - specifically Jakes kids. THEY ARE HALF HUMAN.
If y'all used your brain you would know that Jake is half human, half avatar, so his children will logically look more human than native avatars.
Also the sea/water avatars are a different species, so of course they will have different bone, face and body structure lol.
Finally someone gets it!
Is it just me or did they change Jake's bone structure too? His jaw and lips look way smaller compared to in the first film also I definitely think they made neytiri have her lips more closer to her nose and made her nose smaller :(

That's what happens when we age... Our cheeks and eyes hollow, our eyebrows starts drooping and we get wrinkles. Our lips also gets smaller. And lots of other things.
Maybe because he is a Naa'vi now and living on Pandora had some kind of effect...

I like the color grading of the first old one. It looks realistic but the new one it looks like disney color
I feel like it’s the other way around
i liked the graphics from both movies, but, I agree the second one is more disney-like (more light, more or mostly children involved, simplier plotlines, etc. which gives it a more family-film feel which i dont like tbh), while the first one was a bit darker and had some character development. I really enjoyed watching both movies, but the second one is too lacking of a good storyline, imo.
Just got back from the premiere and have to say, it's not obvious in the trailer but the realism in Avatar 2 is miles ahead of the the first one.
Saw the new Trailer probably about literally 100 times since it came out and I can't stop balling every single time. I really Cannon believe it's time for the second already

At 1:33 if you pause at the right time, you can see that the new Na'vi have fish like tails instead of the tufts of hair at the end! Thank you for making this comparison trailer, I've been watching it frame by frame! So excited! :D
It’s another clan, I noticed it while watching the re release’s post credit. It’s because they evolved to get better at diving. That’s why they have those tails
They have fin-like hands too with the connecting skin-esque fabrique between their fingers.

@@ghoulane No they are Na'vi too. The clan is called "Metkayina" while the clan of the woods is called "Omaticaya". I only heard "toucan" as a real bird :D
They really found a whole new way of lighting and so the colours improved with it. The textures are also just exquisite.
The new Avatar look to saturated, is a strange look. The colors are different than the first, i don't understand why.

I love how everything in the new trailer is a a reflection mirror of Avatar scenes but better, bigger and more emotional now that a decade has passed. Franglen's epic soundtrack binds them together like a neat bow.

You know when you draw a nice drawing that's artistic and beautiful, then you just don't stop and overdo it and it looks too perfect and loses that something special. That's what happened to avatar i way of water.
Something about the old movie looks better to me...I think it has something to do with the lighting and textures of the models...it just looks more real
Visually, i found the new one to be better in every way.... and overall i thought the 2nd was just as good as the first. Excited to see the 3rd one 15yrs from now haha

#1: wasn’t choppy & didn’t look like a video game. Looked REAL. The world & colors were phenomenal.
#2, meh. it’s still avatar so there’s that.
The first one is almost perfect - it has more realistic colors and lighting (like The Lion King). My concern for the new one (though it's still early) is that could look like a cartoonish fairy world (like Jungle Book/Aquaman). The faces should've not been humanized.
But I hope the motion capture has improved, like when they jump.

@@blazesmooth5573 I'm with Sossshane on this one, Neytiri (the navi in general) had more of a alien aesthetic to their faces and in the new one they got heavily humanised which made them more visually boring. I'm not watching this movie to watch humans, I can get that from any movie, the fact that the Navi in the second movie had more human esk noses just make them look off and it really made the children look uncanny as hell
