    Those were not moon pies, those are whoopee pies. Moon pies are marshmallow middle, sort of a graham cookie (or biscuit), and a waxy sort of coating of different flavors. Sorry, but waxy is the only way I can describe the texture of the coating. Also banana moon pies are the best.

    • @dt3008
      @dt3008 7 років тому +10

      Waxy is pretty accurate

    • @elvisneedsboatsbennett2455
      @elvisneedsboatsbennett2455 7 років тому +6

      It isn't as sticky or liquid as ganache. It has the consistency and mouthful of eating a crayola left in the seat of a schoolbus...and I realize t sounds likeI just admitted I eat crayons in the back of the short bus through the slats on my helmet.

    • @BobPapadopoulos
      @BobPapadopoulos 7 років тому +6

      The coating is a nod to when they were almost exclusively found in blue-collar workers' boxes. Normal milk chocolate coating and others they tried either melted to the wrapper or crumbled in the cold or when jostled in the box, or "bloomed" as chocolate tends to often do with age, so they went with the more durable and longer-lasting "waxy" chocolate coating, which also improved the shelf life of the inner cookies that tended to get soggy in the other coatings.

    • @DodiTov
      @DodiTov 7 років тому +1

      You know the pre-purchased "liquid" chocolate they dip strawberries in? The microwavable stuff? That's the moon pie chocolate. Not bad, but not really chocolate. Fortunately there's not much of it on the sandwich. Tip...they're best when they're stale. Fresh ones are crisp, stale ones are soft.

      I think they don't get that we(non- Canadian or South) Americans don't drink the vast quantities of tea that they do.Therefore, our cookies don't have to be hard enough to stand up to several dunks. I love me a soft snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, etc. I grew up with dry Italian tea cookies. Almost always citron, licorice or candied cherries in them. Yuck.

    • @josephineroe8424

    Buckeyes! They're not baked, but I've made them with my family since I was little. I was born and raised in L.A., but my Mom's from Ohio. They're named for the buckeye nut, that comes from the buckeye tree. Don't eat real buckeyes, because they're poisonous 0_0

    • @AhNee
      @AhNee 7 років тому +1

      True. Aesculus hippocastanum (Ohio species is actually aesculus glabra, AKA fetid buckeye) is quite toxic, and many children get poisoned every year thinking it's an edible nut, like a regular chestnut, which is much, MUCH spikier, with nasty sharp, thin, spikes all over that are HELLISH if a chestnut burr falls on you. I had a 'rash' from it for several months, while every now and then, a tiny spine would work its way out.

    • @Neenerella333
      @Neenerella333 7 років тому +3

      I remember that comment from lots of people. In the States, our medicine tastes like fake gross cherry, or mint or pepto-which is bubblegum vomit.In the old days or craft brewers now, root beer is made from roots or bark of sappy trees. Birch, sarsparilla, etc. It's one of those childhood association things. It can't be helped.
