So many things have changed! The courtyard wasn't decked with decorative gizmos and make-believe lawn back then. Definitely couldn't miss the shoe-flapping and talking with students walking on the corridor past your room and, it was usually noisy in the evenings with mates talking/shouting across the courtyard. Maybe that's changed with house-rules. I also remember that it wasn't mixed at the time. We would be shuttled in Golden Arrow busses, and taxis for class on campus. Was there 25 years ago.
I stayed in Liesbeeck Res in my final year. I loved it. 3 befroom flat with 2 guys. I had a part time job at CNA so people were always borrowing money from me. I loved the pool and the student social events. Good memories.❤
Yes, Liesbeek is self catering. If you live in self catering, you can't fetch food from catering, you cook your own food. The closest catering res is Forest Hill (catering) on main road. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply. My daughter has applied to do Medicine at UCT for 2023. Can a student choose to live in a catering res for the duration of the course? Are students forced to move to a Self Catering Res after the 2nd Year ?
@@sunilambat5937 Catering res is very common in first year and second year students. I'm not sure which one you prefer, but the default for first year is catering. Then, at the end of first year, you can choose catering or self catering. From third year and fourth year they usually want the students to go to self catering unless they hold a leadership position in the catering res committee. You don't choose which res they put you in, only catering or self catering. It is possible to switch res in the middle of the year if there is availability in the res you want.
Thanks very much the information. May I ask why do they want 3rd Year students onwards to move to a Self Catering Res ? Is it to make way for new 1st Year and 2nd Year students.
Hello, the first room with Frances we looked at would be R57 600 per annum and second one with Omo would be R53 200. This is because Frances is in a "Two Students in Three-room Flat, per student."; while Omo is in: "Four Students in Four-room Flat, per student". R1100 for parking for year! That's cheap. If you ever have to work in town and you have to pay for parking, you can easily be charged R2k PER MONTH.
