How did this come out 30 years ago and I’m just hearing it. Wow! I’ve never heard anyone cover Jimmy and do him Justice. The power in Chris’s Voice yet he’s holding back letting the guitar be the star
As a Hendrix fan I've always been hesitant to listen to his covers by even the best musicians because no one ever seems to get it right. That being said this cover is BY FAR THE BEST I've heard! Wow! Soulfully done...props!
I always listen to covers because each cover has its own individual sound. some good some bad but some I have added permanently to my listening rotation. Its not the same as Hendrix playing it himself thats for sure but some are unique and good in their own ways.
Mr. Burns… no way you can be a true Hendrix fan and say that. This version is not on the same tier as the Hendrix original. Not even in the same room. The same playing field…. Whatever. You have your opinion, but I highly, highly, highly disagree with it.
The only Hendrix cover I've ever heard that meets or exceeds the level of the original. I remember reading about M.A.C.C's approach when it first came out... "We went into the studio and smoked a little too much weed..." Whatever they did it turned out just fine.
My Father gave this album to me after knowing I like Hendrix. Maybe to convey.. "explore music/life we laid before you" Both great musicians. I love you Paps.
@@alancherry5344 yeah its fucking disgusting men, same with Chester. It’s a shame that because of some pedophile politicians 2 of the best voices in music history had to be silenced. And also that people believed they suicided just because the news said it. Of course its so easy to say that, being musicians that had addictions and childhood traumas. I wish someday the family would stop being “fake” about the situation and tell the real truth to the world.
Hard to believe it has almost been 30 years since this tribute to Jimi came out! I still appreciate this cover every time I listen. They definitely saved the best track for last on this one.
Mike McCready is an amazing guitarist. This was long ago (and he was brilliant then) and I just saw Temple of the Dog at MSG - he can play anything. Love these guys - my generation paying tribute to the greatest generation.
Todd, we are part of history, you and I and a few hundred thousand other TOTD fans. I flew to LA and saw them at the Forum and was lucky enough to get tix to the last show in the Paramount here at home in Seattle, too. They did perform this song and it made my whole world complete!!
They tear this shyte up ! His Hendrix intonation is on point. I bought this CD out of curiosity. The artists on it feel like they're giving 110% on every track.
Hey baby where do you coming from? Well she looked at me and smiled And looked into space and said "I'm coming from the land of the new rising sun" Then I said "Hey baby where are You trying to go to?" Then she said "I'm going to Spin and spread around peace of mind And a whole lotta love to you and yours" Hey girl I'd like to come along Yes, I'd love to come along Would you like to come along? She asked me Yes take me along right now Hey baby, can I step into your world for a while? Yes you can, she said Come on back with me for a ride We're gonna go across the Jupiter sand and See all you people one by one We gotta help you people out right now That's why I'm doing it all about Hey! Yeah, may I come along? May I come along? May I come along? Please take me Damn May I come along? Oh I said may I come along?
Absolutely fabulous cover of Jimi's song. Most musicians struggle to play anything his, he was just so unique. I just wish we hadn't lost Jimi so soon. I love his music as much or even more than I did when I was a little girl. Thanks, Jimi, for giving us such wonderful songs that have stood the test of time.
It was recorded live in the studio!! Best song on the album and probably the best Hendrix cover ever. Some useful info about the the project: M.A.C.C. is the name of a Seattle grunge 'super group' (of sorts) that recorded one track in 1993: 'Hey Baby (Land Of The New Rising Sun)', a Jimi Hendrix cover. The band name M.A.C.C. stands for McCready, Ament, Cornell and Cameron, the family names of the four band members: Mike McCready and Jeff Ament (of Pearl Jam), Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron (of Soundgarden at the time; Cameron is now in Pearl Jam, Cornell sadly passed away in 2017). Their recording of Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun) is a one-off, live in-studio cut recorded for the 1993 Jimi Hendrix tribute album, 'Stone Free', that also featured songs from Eric Clapton, Spin Doctors, Living Colour and others. Hendrix wrote the song late in his career in 1970. A live studio take was included on his 'Rainbow Bridge' album that was eventually released posthumously. M.A.C.C. used this as their blueprint, but McCready and Ament also were known to jam on the tune at Pearl Jam soundchecks. The M.A.C.C. version of the song is sometimes credited to Temple of the Dog, which is incorrect. Pearl Jam guitarist, Stone Gossard, was also in Temple of the Dog - a one-album project that preceded this song by three years - but does not appear on this 1993 recording.
Rest peacefully with Jimi, my good man. It's been an amazing journey listening to all the tunes you've recorded with those you've had the pleasure of recording with. Farewell
fantastic listening, I had this album when it 1st came out.. a very underappreciated gathering of 'jimi' fans playing & paying homage to the guide to the land of the new rising Sun...baby
Best song of the album off course...the pretenders did a smooth job also...but i remember i kept skipping the other tracks all the way to MACC on my CD PLAYa, Cameron did an amazing job on 70s rock drumming with his own twist .. After that put it on replay several times then on to the other songs...RHCP/frusciante should play something here...#missdanineteesbro
adaptiveagile This man was absolutely a god of the electric guitar. I was so lucky to have seen him at Woodstock and New Years Eve with the Band of Gypsies. I've seen all the greats, but still love Jimi the most. Man reeked with sex appeal and his music always makes me wait for my baby to come home from work so I can rip his clothes off!
Everyone commenting how Mike “nails” this have obviously not really listened to the Hendrix original version. From 0:08 to 0:15 he’s missing about half of the notes. The riff at 0:16 to 0:18 is completely wrong and Mike inexplicably always adds an extra beat at the end of it that sets the timing completely off. Then, depending on which Hendrix version you listen to, 0:38 to 0:57 is in the wrong key altogether. He plays the entire section one fret higher than he should, in addition to getting the riff wrong. Listen to Jimi at Maui and you’ll hear everything I’ve pointed out, unless you’re tone deaf.
I bought this album when it came out and to be honest, apart from this killer version, I was pretty disappointed. I thought it was gonna be loads of different guitarists playing the shit outta their instruments, but there’s only this one song that really grabbed me. To a man they were on point, great version. Must be a Seattle thing!!!
Was listening to this record the other day and pretty much every recording sounds dated. You can tell it was done in the 90's. This track does not, it is timeless.
Excellent cover album. Fire was the only let down track for me. Bold as love was a banger as well as hey Joe on this album. But Gary Moore still rules the covers for me. His live version of hey Joe and red house capture the essence of Hendrix.
And this right here, is why Chris Cornell was a rock God!! RIP
i agree, but McCready is the hero of this song..
How did this come out 30 years ago and I’m just hearing it. Wow! I’ve never heard anyone cover Jimmy and do him Justice. The power in Chris’s Voice yet he’s holding back letting the guitar be the star
I can't stop laughing... because I bought the cassette when it first came out!! True jams knows no constraints.
@@andrewsunell9107just when you thought you know something, you’re shown you don’t. I thought I knew so things Chris Cornell related
@karennielsen1122 another cool track on Stonefree- Spanish Castle Magic. The Spin Doctors killed it! I've read they're the most friendly cats to boot.

Best tribute to Jimi. No surprise. They're Seattlers, like man too
You are right 👍🏽

By far.
A jewel among many.

2025 and still listening to the genuises music.

Right on brother
I just saw him this year with his UFO cover band Flight To Mars, sounded amazing.
Jesus man CC is golden ✨️
Best Hendrix cover I've ever heard. Thanks for posting this.
Yeah, that's no ones lame, flabby Hendrix cover by someone who don't know - those guys make it live.
Robert Hanson yep
Nah I think SRV has that covered.
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Mike Mccready on guitar.
I ran across this and could have swore it was Jimi right up til Chris chimmed in.

McCready just fuckin' killin' it on this song!!! Awesome!!!
Wonderful!!! Masterpiece!!! CC voice at his very best, so powerful... RIP Legend ❤️🔥✨
Hendrix imagino iria gostar dessa versão...foda!!
I used to do High School Radio when this came out. I played this the times a week.
Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron drank from the master of the master...Hendrix was the spark nineties Seattle .
M.A.C.C. They tore this song up!!!!! I wish I could get this on iTunes!!
I remember getting this CD when it came out… it ended up being lost and forgotten… until today
I remember when I was a kid and first time to hear this, I suddenly fell in love with Hendrix because of Mike McCready.
Matt Cameron : 🥁 Drums
I've been a Hendrix fan since 1975 and this is the best cover of hey baby
Thanks to this record i discovered Jimi Hendrix in the 1993
Second that. Such an amazing cover and entry to the world of Jimi Hendrix.
I love this version. I heard this before I heard Jimi's version. And I was a big Jimi fan too!
you hear the amps humming in the backround. love it!

Love this cover!!!! Jeff Ament completely DOMINATES the bass! Only wish Stone would've been included on here...he was a huge Hendrix fan too.
John
Ament is actually very underrated and has really stepped his game up, post-Mother Love Bone.

Only Chris and his former Soundgarden bandmates could reach this level of perfection. Thank u CC!
Mike mccready from Pearl Jam is on guitar
One of the best Hendrix covers that exists!

Great song. Thanks for posting.

I agree with you except for the Manic Depression cover by Seal and Jeff Beck. This one seems so much more satisfying, though.
That track is my second favorite, I love the break down they do, they added something to the song that actually elevated it!
Jeff Anthony - living colour's crosstown traffic still sounds great! great album!
Michael Jordan to Nike , is like Jimi To Fender..Damn! Make it the whole guitar world
Thank you ...

Which univibe is using here?

I’m willing to bet that Stone was busy with his other band Brad when this was recorded.
Better than the original.
They could have easily named the band TOTD and it would have gotten alot more press .... The fact they chose not to ...
I'm a huge Jimi fan, but hell, this is better than the original!
+RHINOSAUR Pretty much everyone in MACC is better than the original band, but Jimi and the Experience's influence is a lot of why.
You're crazy brah. This is great, but not Hendrix great.
they're not trying to great as hendrix
Only because Hendrix didn't live long enough to finish the track...he didn't achieve a master vocal track.
I still and always will prefer Jimi's version. I like this one but come on.
oh my fuckin word. hha just woke the block up at 3am
Surprisingly the best version ever. Better than Hendrix.
