Delta guys ran me off the direct fire artillery range at Bragg once. Wouldn't even let us watch 'em fire their toys. But they were in and out quick, and we still got our training in.
The point is, when you're working up an operation, there's often a restricted timeframe and rehearsing particular phases may not be possible in-house. Even though this may be the sixth time you've done it, the setting is always different, exposing angles you need to adjust to, for example, the Iranian Embassy siege when two of the hostage-takers exfiltrated as hostages. One was recognised in the stairwell and eliminated immediately, the other survived, identified in the ID phase of the washup. The PM wasn't amused, those she was talking to told me.

Probably the best way to describe them. Think Obi-wan types. The force is strong with them for sure. Most of the seals Ive ever seen were more like Conan the barbarian types 😂
That's actually a pretty cool story, it definitely highlights the mystique that surrounds Delta, even to this day. And I always wondered how they really looked in real life if it was kinda like they are portrayed in the early 80s Chuck Norris films. I would assume now; they mostly dress like they've been shopping at the local 5.11 Tactical store: flannels, ball caps, and Merrell tactical shoes, and not a shaved face in the Unit, lol. When I was in the regular army, they were like mystical superheroes that no one ever saw or knew. Cool video. Hooah!
Pretty sure I met some Delta guys about ten years ago when I was bartending. They shuffled in our bar in Louisville and just had “ the vibe”. All around 35-40 and dressed like dorks honestly. Wool shirts, jeans, and hiking shoes. They mentioned they had been at Ft Knox area and wanted to check out Louisville. My partner in the bar had been a ranger in Iraq and one guy started to react to the story but you could tell he caught himself and just said “cool”. These dudes looked and sounded like college professors but the necks and hands did not lie. Afterwards, my buddy said he was fairly certain they were d boys as he had met some overseas.
Something similar happened to us in September 1993 (remember what happened in October that year) at a range at Fort Bragg. They didn't take over our range, but they conducted a training operation that ended at our range, so they came, gathered us up, and asked us not to discuss their tactics with anyone because we would not like it if they did that to us, lol. Like a bunch of young paratroopers have secret tactics. I will say this, the way they apprehended people with helicopters in the movie Black Hawk Down was damn close. Oddly, we were not allowed to talk about it at the time, but they just handed that information over to movie producers.
I was riding my Cannondale past all the ranges at Bragg and a van went past me, turned into a range, and decimated it, wearing the same clothes he was talking about.
