    The Vauxhall Corsa has been one of the UK’s top-selling cars for a generation, and a favourite with driving instructors, first-time drivers, commuters and fleet managers. But Vauxhall’s hatchback has just taken its most revolutionary step yet.
    This is the Corsa-e, and as the name suggests, it’s an all-electric version of this popular supermini, positioned as a zero-emissions alternative that is directly targeted at the usual Corsa buyer.

    We test drove the Opel branded version of this car in Spain and we really like it. It's more roomy than we expected and it actually feels less cramped than our BMW E91 (with a snapped timing chain) does. We have one reserved and are going tomorrow to seal the deal.

    I've owned a 2012 Corsa 1.4 SE for over two years now, and it has never put a foot wrong. The only major work it's had done to it are new front brakes.

    I find it odd how people go on about the charging cables taking up space in the boot. Most Corsa owners who buy the electric version will use it mostly for short trips and will likely only need to charge once or twice a week at most. I have had one of these for about 4 months now and it has been faultless. I bought a second 2 metre charging cable that I use to charge the car at home. I store this in a cloak cupboard in hall and main cable stays in bag in the boot.

    A ridiculously negative review by the negative tone of the reviewer. I've driven the Corsa e. There are zero "problems" with interior quality. It doesn't rattle, it doesn't break. It's a bit scratchy but generally it's on an overall par with the class leaders. There isn't a weight problem either. The cars weight is commensurate to carrying a 50kw battery and the boot has to compromise a little to accommodate this as do most cars in this category. The motor is swift so you don't feel the weight when accelerating. The suspension is supple if not sporty but it isn't a problem. The infotainment is the best yet in a Vauxhall and if you do want to compare to the 208e you'll realise that the Pug's glitzy interior is superficially cheap and the driver information screen isn't as functional as the Corsa, despite the 3d effects. As for price, it again is commensurate and because it is a Vauxhall it also receive generous discounts beyond government grants if you do your research and haggle. Try again auto express

    I have had a Corsa E for 9 months now. its a lovely car to drive, but the range is nothing like they say, it looses about 60%. I have been mis-sold this car because it does not do what they said it would do. Running it in eco mode, not using the air con; and driving it in daylight ( lights not on ) at a steady speed makes no difference, i am getting around 140 miles from a full charge. I have complained to the dealers top man and he agrees, so we are getting all are money back less £1500.

      No car on the market does the efficiency it says in the brochure: Petrol, diesel or EV. It's impossible to get that range in the real world vs. what they get in a lab. You should use EV database or do more research.

      @Wetsuitntie 4 роки тому

      @@stealthirl Yes, my BMW i3 has space under the bonnet for cables, a first aid kit, etc. It should have been possible for Vauxhall to have done something similar with the Corsa - or did the reviewer perhaps not think of looking there?!

    • @georgewalker7061
      @georgewalker7061 4 роки тому

      Storage under a boot floor that people keep asking for is hopeless if you carry stuff in the boot. As it is the seat behind the driver might not get used as little room for legs and feet so put the cables in a waterproof bag on the floor. Not that any UA-cam reviewers have passangers or test cars fully loaded, so space to put the cables is hardly an issue.

      Wow, that's surprising to hear. We live in a rural town south of Barcelona and there are plenty of charging stations. A few of the super markets actually have free charging so we may never have to pay to charge it and if we're really desperate the local petrol station has a 100kw quick charger which will give it a 80% charge in 30 minutes.

    ? Did you bother checking the tyre pressures and seeing what they were at before commenting on the handling. Did Vauxhall tell you when the 11kW one will be available in the UK. Putting 350 kg of people in the car and luggage will affect the range but now at least 4 youtube reviewers have driven that same car and appear to drive it empty. & without mentioning tyre pressures,

      PS 136ps in SPORT, 100 and a bit in Normal and 80ps in ECO, and 136ps if you floor the accelerator. So 80ps and A/C off, and you will get a good range, sitting in the car yourself. Then the SE is on 195/16" tyres, the Elite Nav on 205/17's, again the range is not the same. Not that PSA / Vauxhall show that.

      Motability Finance the biggest group buyer in the UK are buying ones to lease for 3 years, and they are not paying £30,000 even on the Elite Nav. Then PSA / Vauxhall will be buying from themselves to lease out. The dealerships will sell the Demonstrators they all get at a nice low price as the HMRC / Tax Payers will help them profit.

    • @scunnerdarkly4929
      @scunnerdarkly4929 4 роки тому +1

      In absolute terms this is not a cheap car, and that means it’s not yet the EV for the masses. It has a bigger problem though, the current Corsa. At around half the price and offering a respectable (manufacturer spec) 48-69mpg, you have to ask how long it would take the more economical but more expensive EV to break even and justify the extra outlay. It *will* break even eventually but I suspect this will happen outside the lease period many will opt for, and ultimately prove to not actually be the smartest option financially. Great for fleet buyers maybe but not so much for the private owner. If there was more price parity between the fossil fuel and EV variants this would be a revolutionary new car. And that’s what we need if our dependency on fossil fuel is to be broken.

    • @georgewalker7061
      @georgewalker7061 4 роки тому

      @@scunnerdarkly4929 It is not hard to break even over 3 years or more with EV's if a business / fleet user and getting help from HMRC with BIK, if you get free electric charging at Rapid Chargers and are not spending maybe £2,500 a year buying fuel, not paying to park and in Congestion charge / low emission zones.

    • @scunnerdarkly4929
      @scunnerdarkly4929 4 роки тому

      george walker - totally agree, but like I said, for the private buyer looking to own it’s not such an easy sell. Maybe that’s the point and it’s not actually aimed at the traditional car buyer but rather the sort of person that’s happy to have a PCP or lease at say £199 a month and being responsible for little else than providing fuel/electric.
      I’m seriously old school and don’t like completely throwing money away. I know someone who happily pays £250 a month on a PCP. That’s £3k a year for the contract period. My last car, an ‘03 Leon 1.8T cost just under £3k. In 9 years it did 45k miles at an estimated cost of £7k. Add another generous £7.5k for tax, insurance, tyres and other consumables and we’re looking at around 17.5k total cost of ownership. Sounds a lot when you look at it like that but it’s still over £14k cheaper than a regular finance habit of £250/month over the same period - £27k plus around £6k for fuel.
      PCPs and leasing will be the only way for many to afford a car like this and it’s a way off being the affordable car for the masses the Corsa is known as. The biggest problem here is people who choose to buy this will most likely do so because it’s very cheap to run, but access to those low running costs comes at a significant price. It’s hard to imagine who, other than fleet buyers, this is actually aimed at. It’s competent all-round without excelling in any one spot, ideal for fleets, but people will expect something a bit sexy for £30k, something special from the future or outer space, and this isn’t it.

      People certainly have had to wait to get a VW ID3 after years of spinning what they would have, ID Buzz etc, while all they had was a e-UP! with less than 100 miles range and a e-Golf with little more. So eventually VW have the IT glitches sorted. Vorsprung Durch Technik, if everything in the world was built and designed by VW Group then Covid 19 lockdowns would be small fry. VW and electrics and H20 are not something to trust. They have yet to get the hang of door seals, timing chains and cam chains tensioners. So that can be put in the past now. Green VW, just forget the Defeat Devices / TDI emissions scandal, and that VW were going Diesel Hybrids and had to scrap all that and go EV.
