When I attended OU back many, many years ago, we would go to the games for the band, leave after haftime and then come back for the post-game show. The crowd would dance with the band and it remains one of my favorite memories of my time at OU. It's great school, but the 110 are the heart and soul!
I would love to be in this marching band. I love their enthusiasm and sassy attitude! Go ohio!!! I want to play the flute in a marching band one day. This band has made a mark in history. Whoever is in the band now keep it up!! (My band teacher was in this band) Ted Turhune shout out to him he played sopprano sax in the band. Idk where he is but i know that he worked he hiney off!! Love this marching band! LETS GO OHIO WHHHOOOOO!!!!!!
I really like this. A band director didn't want people to leave during halftime like they do at most non-HBCUs so he took a lil HBCU flavor and put it into his band(popular songs, dancing, marching 45s-90s). Honestly, I'd be surprised if this caught wind at other PWI's but I like what they're doing.
And that's what makes this band and the people in it so great and awesome, everyone's devotion really shines through! Great work, looking forward to all your other routines!
Each section's auditions may vary slightly but it's usually some variation on: stand up and cheer (fight song), sight reading, and a range test. There is also a marching audition. Audition information is available at the band's website along with registration info, etc. Check out some other videos to get a better idea of the marching style.
I'm a senior cymbal player known for my flashes in my high school and since we got a new band director she has decided to teach us this after our main show which will be around October. One thing that she told me which really inspired me was that i need to do twice the cymbal flashes that the cymbalist did in this video. Challenge Accepted :)
best marching band I've seen for the night that was awesome and took a lot of hard work . I'm in marching band and that's pretty awesome that I'll get to do that
I'm an old fart (53) who spent jr./sr. high years playing sax in corps style marching band. I'd heard of LMFAO -- never paid attention to their music prior to stumbling onto this video last year. So catchy!!! Can't be easy turning electronic club music into pep band charts. Would have loved to do something like this when I was a kid! Scares the beejeezus out of me when you guys put your horns on the ground, but you do great. A joy to watch. Please post a better quality vid if you can get one.
I'm in marching band (alto saxophone) this is one of our pep band songs along with shots and goldie we play a similar arrangement except our marching including the guard is only about 70 people :P but we look up to the 110 sooo much we talk about how much of an inspiration they our to us and how all of us want to go there :D
Y'all are forgetting about the best damn band in the land! Ohio represents in all the bands. OU band is nationally known as the most exciting band in the land OSU is the best damn band in the land. Proud to be an Ohioan!
I would invite you down to ANY Marching 110 show to show you that our band shows off their musical and marching talents, day in and day out. Watch the Ohio vs. Penn State game on ESPN today at 2pm or come to Athens next weekend, the game starts at 7:30 so the band will be playing around 8:45. The Marching 110 is THE MOST EXCITING BAND IN THE LAND!! LETS GO BOBCATS!
Rosalyn, I didn't sat that HBCU's did the most dancing, I said they do indeed put their instruments on the ground when they do dance routines, it happens. The dance routines used to be simple where you didn't have to do that, but now they are more complicated, and you simply cannot play and dance at the same time. Your comment was not taken in a negative way, I was just giving some insight. During the regular season, they do put their instruments down. Maybe not at Battle of the Bands.
These guys are a COLLEGE band, NOT a High school Marching band, and like most well-known College Marching Bands, they change shows multiple times a year, that way the show never gets old.
Good band. Most bands have now added dance routines to their shows thanks to the movie," Drumline." They usually march then dance. Makes the crowd happy and that's a good thing. HBCU bands have been dancing since the 50's. Southern University marching band from Baton Rouge, LA aka "The Human Jukebox" is the #1 rank HBCU band in the country. See them on youtube. Go to- SU band Atlanta Classic 2012
Marching bands do that all the time. Last fall, my marching band did a dance break that involved the band putting their instruments down and it was a huge crowd pleaser.
That is what it used to be for, but since interest in the band exploded, they had to drop that policy and they now say that the 110 in "Marching 110" stands for all of the members giving 110%.
Hope you went to OU Sarah where you could actually play that saxophone in the band...Ohio State's band is all brass-- no woodwinds....hence their tinny sound compared to OU.
The music was learned the week before and the dance 2 days prior to the performance. Thanks for the comment. Never heard that a real marching band doesn't lay down their instruments.
While I prefer corps style, I must give credit where credit is due. The director of the 110 knows how to appeal to the audience and crowd! If you want to continue to get funding for your program, you learn this! Each audience is different and this one obviously likes more contemporary stuff, nothing wrong with that. I applaud you!
Just an FYI, this is the Ohio University marching band (called the Marching 110) not Ohio State (they are the ones that do script Ohio). The Ohio University Marching 110 is also the band that did Gangnam Style. There's kind of a rivalry between the two.
Did you watch the Southern vs ULL clip? Southern put their instruments down on a regular basis when they do dance routines, and they are not the ones. I was a member of the Sonic Boom of the south(Jackson State), and I know for sure that some bands put their instruments down while doing complex dance routines. It's obvious you haven't watched too many HBCU bands perform. If you did, you would know that they some of them do indeed put their instruments down while dancing.
+Nathaniel Lankford I mean, if pouring buckets of sweat running, stretching, marching, dancing, playing your instrument, and screaming isn't counted as a sport then I don't even know anymore.
To call what we do "quickly produced greed" is a bit of an insult I think. If you know anything about the 110 you would know that we don't do what we do to be greedy, but rather to work hard and produce a great show for the football games. This song was our last in the halftime show of 4 (I think) songs in which we march. I encourage you to look at those as well.
Reminds me of my high school marching band, Edison High School in Milan, Ohio. We are kind of a cross between this and TBDBITL. Only high school band I know that does Script Ohio
i say piss off to any one who says that doing music like this isnt hard or takes talent. and just because a marching band performs a routine and song like this doesnt mean its all they can do. My HS marching band director actually saw this clip and modeled our last performance off it because he thought it was a wonderful showmanship of creativity and fun. Marching band doesnt have to be all about precision and top notch music, its about enjoying what your doing whether it fits tradition or not
Since I first attended OU in 1969, the band has been a thrilling source of pride for me!
It was then the opposing team knew that Ohio University had a better marching band than them.
Imagine living in Ohio and thinking State’s band is “the best damn band in the land” when the 110 also exists
I'm german and the way you guys make music is just amazing! :)
Ohio has the best band ever
BunnyBean have you heard of drum corps
Ohio has the best bands
And people think Marching Band is lame... HAH!
Exaclty.. It's a lot harder than it looks. You have to remember the steps and the song. Plus, there's dancing involved.
Well, sometimes there's dancing involved... But yes, remembering the songs, where you're supposed to be... It isn't easy, but definitely worth it. ^^
It IS worth it! I love marching band! We have our first performance in October! :)
Ana Wilkowski
That's exciting! What's your show, if you don't mind my asking?
Maci_Mae MSSU homecoming parade!
Cannot say how much I love these guys! Every year, every class, they are always amazing! :D
Being a band nerd I can say they were great!
When I attended OU back many, many years ago, we would go to the games for the band, leave after haftime and then come back for the post-game show. The crowd would dance with the band and it remains one of my favorite memories of my time at OU. It's great school, but the 110 are the heart and soul!
I love it how Ohio's Band is very creative and doesn't go mainstream like the other bands do. THey add more to your ticket than just a football game.
the guy at the front of the row on the 40 yard line is really into it LOL XD
dude was doing the limbo lol
OsamaBinLooney they do that so they can play longer, it expands their lungs to let them use more air.
OsamaBinLooney lmfao hahahahjahahajajajjahahah omg I can't type
So true and so funny .😂😂😂
I'm pretty sure she's a girl lol I may be wrong
makes me want to go to this University just to join the band - absolutely amazing!!
94-96 110 band member here. There was nothing more exciting than hitting those dance routines and hearing the crowds.
i love this marching music i hope our band is big enough to do this show next year :) cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love all band geeks
Besides a real band that dancing during their routines, never put their instruments down, that's what makes it that much better to watch them
They have been doing these dancing routines for years !!! Truly outstanding and so entertaining !!! Love them !!!
I would love to be in this marching band. I love their enthusiasm and sassy attitude! Go ohio!!! I want to play the flute in a marching band one day. This band has made a mark in history. Love this marching band! LETS GO OHIO WHHHOOOOO!!!!!!
This so so amazing! Their band is very lucky to have so many tubas and trombones. At my school we have 4 tubas and 2 trombones
I've come to realize that this band is probably bigger than my entire town
It's the same for our college up in Michigan at GVSU. You guys did great! Looked like it was a ton of fun!
And that's what makes this band and the people in it so great and awesome, everyone's devotion really shines through! Great work, looking forward to all your other routines!
Hope you all were actually having as much fun as it looks like you were. Great show!
Ohio State Band is my new favorite band from a university to look at that. I've seen their Gangnam Style performance. Now this? *MIND DOUBLE BLOWN*
Each section's auditions may vary slightly but it's usually some variation on: stand up and cheer (fight song), sight reading, and a range test. There is also a marching audition. Audition information is available at the band's website along with registration info, etc. Check out some other videos to get a better idea of the marching style.
this is why hbcu bands are highly loved & favored because they put on shows EVERY time the hit the field
Es un deleite escucharlos y es imposible evitar que la piel se me vuelva de gallina, maravilloso congratulations!!!!!
This band Is totally awesome in person!!! That is why I wish they would have spent time showing the whole band play. It's just really cool!!
I'm a senior cymbal player known for my flashes in my high school and since we got a new band director she has decided to teach us this after our main show which will be around October. One thing that she told me which really inspired me was that i need to do twice the cymbal flashes that the cymbalist did in this video. Challenge Accepted :)
Woah, you play Cymbals too?
had so much fun when me and my highschool marched with them on the 21st at their band day
OMG!! I ❤️ all of these! These kids ROCK!!
Lol the one trumpet player near the back really gets into dancing
Brings back good memories of both this song and band:)
best marching band I've seen for the night that was awesome and took a lot of hard work . I'm in marching band and that's pretty awesome that I'll get to do that
These guys are great. How they did this and Gangnam Style is amazing.
didn't have marching bands like this back in my day. I love it!
One of the best videos i ever seen on youtube!
I'm an old fart (53) who spent jr./sr. high years playing sax in corps style marching band. I'd heard of LMFAO -- never paid attention to their music prior to stumbling onto this video last year. Great job guys!!! Wish we had marching bands up here in Canada!! All we do is a ton of orchestral, wind band, and chamber music.... :(
there is no word to describe it... it's much more than AWESOME :D
We are going to do this next year for our marching show! Go LC Titans!
You are amazing AND totaly unbelievable !!! I love you, i love your style !!!
They are so damn awesome! I wish my marching band could do that.
I'm in marching band (alto saxophone) this is one of our pep band songs along with shots and goldie we play a similar arrangement except our marching including the guard is only about 70 people :P but we look up to the 110 sooo much we talk about how much of an inspiration they our to us and how all of us want to go there :D
Le genre de vidéo qui m encourage à faire une carrière dans la musique! Bravo

I would invite you down to ANY Marching 110 show to show you that our band shows off their musical and marching talents, day in and day out. These guys are a COLLEGE band, NOT a High school Marching band, and like most well-known College Marching Bands, they change shows multiple times a year, that way the show never gets old.
Awesome! Thanks for uploading!
The marching band at my school needs to do that!!! Atm, we're doing Drumline's Shout It Out and we're trying to find dances to do. :)

This is Ohio university not Ohio State
Hope you went to OU Sarah where you could actually play that saxophone in the band...Ohio State's band is all brass-- no woodwinds....hence their tinny sound compared to OU.
and these are just some of the reasons why i love being in marching band..

Gotta love that powerful bassline coming from the sousas.......
The music was learned the week before and the dance 2 days prior to the performance. Thanks for the comment. Never heard that a real marching band doesn't lay down their instruments.

This was the dance chart. The other 3 songs in the show are marching
I love marching band I love all kinds of marching bands I'm in marching band I play the flute
Band, the thing that makes songs sound better. :D
Brings a whole new meaning to Band Camp
It is call a Show Band and a Dance Break. . .Ohio U Marching 110 has been doing it since the mid 1960s.
Look up over videos. The last song of every performance is a dance tune - the other 3 are marched

Awesome my high school band did this and we tried to imitate that dance and it got great reviews

damn that is so cool
i wish we had some marching bands like that in my country
Wow! If I went to school there, I think I'd go to every football game just to watch the band!
This is awesome! :)
Nothing but AWESOMENESS!!!
I think it should be considered a sport. *incoming Internet tussle*
It IS a sport :D
+Nathaniel Lankford I mean, if pouring buckets of sweat running, stretching, marching, dancing, playing your instrument, and screaming isn't counted as a sport then I don't even know anymore.
Marching band (including guard) is one of the hardest things to pull off.

You all kicking butt ....awesome
my school offers a concert band made of mostly if not completely made out of winds and they call it wind symphony
