      Greetings. To my best understanding, it is from the Havamal ... words of the High One.
      Norwegian
      Døyr fe, døyr frender
      Døyr sjølv det sama
      men ordet om deg aldreg døyr
      vinn du et gjetord gjevt
      Døyr fe, døyr frender
      Døyr sjølv det sama
      Eg veit et som aldreg døyr
      dom om daudan kvar
      English
      Cattle die, kinsmen die,
      the self must also die;
      but glory never dies,
      for the man who is able to achieve it.
      Cattle die, kinsmen die,
      the self must also die;
      I know one thing which never dies:
      the reputation of each dead man.

    I think it would be really helpful/interesting, if you guys came up with a weekly food plan (mid day meal, snacks, evening meal kind of thing) of Viking food, but all things we could buy at the average grocery store. Don't know if you have time, or would be so inclined, but thought I'd throw it out there. :-) I believe our bodies would be healthier if we ate more like this age of Ancestor.

    • @luigimontybasiletti851
      @luigimontybasiletti851 2 роки тому +7

      I agree, that would be very interesting. I would also like to see what provisions they carry on a long journey, and how they preserve food for long periods. Personally, I recommend the book "Eat like a Viking" by Craig Brooks. I have found it extremely helpful.

    Was the soup to see if he was going to survive the stomach wound?

    • @RavensOfAsgard
      @RavensOfAsgard  2 роки тому +5

      Yes, you are right Buster_Rhein.
      The onion soup is a test, to see if there is a wounded stomach. If you can smell the broth trough the wound, it means the stomach wall was cut, signaling that the man won't survive his wounds.

      The leather canteen is the best way to carry water. For stuff like wine, ale or oil I prefer ceramic vessel, but they are so easy to broke, so we wrap it up in a wool or some clothes during hikes. Small wooden barrels are also acceptable but they have to be full all the time otherwise they start leaking.
