- Yes, once again we’re avoiding doing any actual work to attend a jolly, this time one where a lot of legwork has gone in to get a curry night arranged. All Linda and I have to do is to stay sober in the afternoon so we don’t hit the wall early and... oh lordy, is that another pint of Stella??
Sigh. Yes, I’m very annoyed with myself for two reasons which all boil down to the same cause: Linda and I hit the bar at 13:00 on Thursday after visiting just two stands at Elex… and we never left there before the show closed for the day. We also missed lunch and had a couple of jars at the hotel bar before moving on to the restaurant where bottles of Cobra were… well… everywhere. That means (i) I missed damn near everyone who attended the show on Thursday and (ii) we also missed the actual curry because both Linda and I were bundled into the back of an Uber at ridiculous o’clock by Chauvin’s Rochel who harboured concerns for our wellbeing.
So, yeah. My apologies to those who wanted to meet up and those who attended the curry thinking they could give me some stick after having a few only to find I’d disappeared before the starters even came out! What a shambles!
My thanks to those who appeared on camera. It’s nice that I’m not (yet) persona non grata on all stands at these shows and can still talk to salespeople at some of them.

Are these shows actually worth going to?…. Never done one ?
It depends what you want out of it. You could run around it in an hour if you know what you're after and don't want to listen to any tech-talks or talk to sales types. They're good for seeing new products and sometimes there are bargains to be had. It's nice to bump into people and have a chat and it's an opportunity to talk directly to manufactrers about how good (or bad) their products are. The podcast lads making a curry night out of this one brought a lot of people together.

Used to go to the GSM-WORLD exhibitions/conferences for about 15 years, originally in Cannes, then Barcelona. Last one I went to about 8 years ago had 96,000 visitors! Paper badges still back then with QR codes, but they had systems that worked!
A QR code on a phone screen is all we need these days... if that.

Premier Inn at Wimbledon Broadway is showing at £68 for the 7th and is a 10 minute walk to the railway station and a 12 minute train ride to Esher, round the corner from Sandown Park.
Who said that it was dangerous for ESK to meet up there? I'm intrigued to what they meant.... and I thought Eastway Electrical would be there for the curry.

@dsesuk I found that it was more for the exhibiters to be able to scan you for your details and contact you if you showed an interest, without the need to write your details down etc
