Godzilla Minus One is potentially the best movie of 2023!

I’ll be shocked if something dethrones it for me

It’s theater run just got extended too. I would kill for a 4K release with BTS and director commentary 🙏

I mean, other than the technical believability aspect, the fact that she survived sort of cheapened her initial sacrifice and also his devastation. That’s the main issue I had with it. I mean, in this movie for some reason no one died. With the rest of the characters at least there is some explanation. With her it just became a cheap suspension of disbelief and it’s totally unnecessary. He has Akiko who is enough for his salvation which is a central theme in the movie. With her coming back all you can say is: “oh come the F on now!”

Regarding the “overacting.” It’s definitely a Japanese culture thing. Japanese are notoriously exaggerated in mannerisms, this is not just in films but also if you are used to seeing Japanese documentaries you see that this is how they behave. When they act anger for example the timbre in their voice even changes. When they talk for example they tend to shake because they are so used to moving their bodies from constantly having to bow etc.
Conversely, the French for example are notoriously unexpressive. If you’ve seen any French films the characters show very little emotions even in dire situations, which if you are from let’s say an Asian culture, might find that to be bad acting. The funny thing is any of these actors, Japanese or French, if they are employed to act in an American Hollywood movie, their acting style changes and adapts to the American style which is somewhere in the middle when it comes to expressiveness.
