oh yeah as a Viennese (which literally holds the title of being the most unfriendly city) it is normal to me that service workers don't interact with you at all, not even as a local. I am used to it but it still disappoints me every time and also having traveled around Europe quite a bit, it rarely is different in other countries. this is why I would love to visit the US, I am craving friendly encounters haha
