Haha, it's always a fun adventure when playing around with Hatari and MIDI! Glad I could provide some good info to help you out. Keep experimenting and have a blast!
I have a MiST machine that uses an FPGA chip to become either an Amiga or an Atari ST. It has hardware MIDI ports that the Atari core uses. The Amiga one can use them too but needs the drivers in the Amiga system as Amigas did not have MIDI ports by default. The other FPGA offering called the MiSTer happens to have Fluid Synth built in for the MIDI. Also, I use different software than Fluid Synth for MIDI on my PC. I use CoolSoft's MIDI mapper and Virtual MIDI Synth. I should take a look at Fluid Synth as I thought it was just for Linux systems!
A MiST or MiSTer is definitely on the cards, but with the current silly prices for FPGAs (though they're coming down) means I'm waiting a while. if I do go FPGA I'm definitely getting something with MIDI ports.
@@commodoreisnottheonlyfruit It seems UA-cam did not like me talking about where you can find the MiST! I just got reported for posting a spam comment and my reply to you was removed even though I did not put any links in! They really need to train their bots better and look for context! lol So, yeah, seems you can now get strikes on your channel for innocent comments their bot thinks is spam!
@@TanjoGalbithat's really strange and kind of awful. However I did receive an email with your original comment in it so I have read it. And you're right I can't think what was in there that triggered any bot.
@@commodoreisnottheonlyfruit My first strike on my channel since I created it, (over 15 years) and it's because a bot does not understand context. What is this world coming to? SMH
It was hard to tell from the audio on the video, but how is the MIDI timing? Last time I attempted this the latency and jitter were so bad to the point it was unusable trying to record into a sequencer.
There have been some really nice improvements to MIDI in Hatari on the Mac in version 2.4 and on. I really only use emulation for playback on Hatari and I find it pretty rock solid. When using a real keyboard with Hatari I have seen of small timing issues, but I usually put that down to MIDI over USB, which I think is pretty flakey in general. But realistically I only dabble in music these days, so I'm pretty ok with that.
Awesome! I tried playing around with Hatari and MIDI, but had some issues - this is some good info!

Fluid sounds pretty good to me!
Well it's official then, if two Davids agree, it must be correct!

This is great! I'd definitely be interested in a video detailing the same process with hardware MIDI controllers. Would it be set up the same way?
Tanks for this I'll have a look into it
