Just commenting to say your video is super helpful. We're considering a 1575 ourselves and if we purchase one I plan to follow your steps precisely as they are very well thought out.
My wife and I haven't purchased our 1575 yet, but I've been tinkering with setup and packing lists. Our setup list is very similar to yours, in a logical order and designed to get set up as quickly as possible, and with a "flow" of order: Level side to side Chock wheels Raise tongue to clear the hitch Disconnect from tow vehicle Level front-to-back Open propane tank (because you're already there) Retrieve stabilizer pads Connect surge protector (pre-juice for 2 minutes) Drop stabilizer jacks (on the pads) Connect 30A cable to surge protector • check lights on surge protector for faults Connect 30A cable to trailer Turn on fridge (to have it start cooling) Freezer packs in the freezer (if required) Turn on air conditioning (you're already inside) • or open windows Open bathroom door Open bathroom roof vent (as needed) Roll out awning as you exit the trailer Connect cable/satellite (as required) Connect water hose to source • pressure regulator & filter Prime water hose Connect water hose to trailer (90 deg fitting) Black and grey water valves closed Connect sewer hose (as required) • this is done after water connection, so no cross-contamination Clean hands (antibac wipes) Empty slide-out outside storage • done to reduce weight on gears/motor when opening the slide-out Open slide-out Turn on water pump Turn on water heater (as necessary) Bleed water lines inside trailer Lay out camp mat Set up outdoor kitchen/BBQ Set up camp chairs Connect solar panels Check battery voltage • take note of voltage and charging capacity needed Enjoy camp Thanks for the video!
We love our 1575. Only thing we do differently is my husband adjusted the awning so it doesn’t hit the door. Better for when the automatic closure feature kicks in too. Great video!
Thats a good tip on the awning adjustment! It never fails that the one time you leave the door open, the awning decides to close and gets caught on top of the door frame, then chaos ensues!
We'll probably get a shakedown run in sometime next week. 🤞 Most GA state parks opened a week ago, and people on RV message boards are saying that the fulltimers and mobile workforce folks have been able to get set up in the places where they want to be.
If Lance can redesign and give a semi-walkaround bed without a slide as an option for less than 23' in length, I would definitely buy one for its build quality.
Great video. I’m thinking about getting a 1575. I can’t find the link for the gizmo you attached to your cordless drill. You mentioned you were going to post it. Thanks
Excellent video and I've enjoyed several of your 2019 Summer trip with more to watch. Trailer specific, I was surprised not to see an anti sway device in use and I find that very encouraging. You never mentioned white knuckle driving or trailer sway so I'm guessing it's not an issue. I have a Honda Ridgeline with the same 5k tow capacity and am looking at the 1475 or 1575. It's just 2 of us, and a 65lb dog.🙂 Thank you for the videos.
Thank you! Yes, you are correct, we paid close attention to the towing behavior in our first few months back in 2016 to determine whether or not we needed an anti sway device when towing with our Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. Note that the Limited has a wheelbase of 110 inches, so the little extra length (compared to the shorter Santa Fe Sport) does help with overall ability to counteract sway from the trailer. It's funny, my in-laws had a 2005 Ridgeline which is the vehicle I used to learn how to tow a trailer before I bought the Lance! The Ridgeline should be very capable of towing the 1475 or 1575, just keep an eye on how much heavy gear you place in the basement under the queen bed, as that may cause your tongue weight to approach the Ridgeline's 500 lb capacity. With that much weight on the hitch, a weight distributing hitch may be necessary. And if you're in the market for a 1575, I'm selling mine right now! www.rvtrader.com/listing/2015-Lance-1575-5016096361
@@BillWinterberg I'll certainly check out your listing. I don't have a 7 pin harness or a brake controller on my Ridgeline yet. In this market I'm sure you'll have no problem selling. Getting a bigger trailer?
@@UGB Yes, we are getting a bigger trailer. My son Dan, in this video, is pushing 5 foot 6 inches at age 12!!! He is outgrowing the dinette bed in the Lance, plus he sleeps in in the morning, so mom and dad are tired of waking him up so we have a table to use to eat breakfast when the weather outside is poor!
Good question! No sink in the bathroom is a minor inconvenience. All hand washing and dish washing is done in the kitchen sink, so we have two soaps on the counter and have two separate towels, one for hand drying, and one for dish drying. For shaving, most of the time I shave when I use campground shower facilities, and have only shaved once or twice in the Lance. There's really not that great of a space to set up a small mirror for shaving around the kitchen sink, so it can be a bit cumbersome to be sure every area has been shaved. Teeth brushing is done at the kitchen sink, too, and since that's part of our bedtime routine, the sink and counter are pretty much empty of dishes, so nothing gets in the way for brushing teeth.
We tow our Lance 1575 with a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited that has a 3.3 liter V6 engine, 290 horsepower, and with the factory tow package added is rated to tow 5,000 lbs with 500 lbs on the hitch.
@@BillWinterberg My sister just bought a 1575 and tows it with a 2019 Subaru Ascent. It's also got the tow package and has the same towing specs as your Santa Fe. It tows like a dream. Great little trailer.
Hi Bill, Thanks for the video. I'm looking for an Rv like yours, a Lance 1475 or 1575. But I cannot find a video where we can see the space left when the extention is in. I'd like to know if you can used the bathroom on the road, while the extention is not out? Have a nice summer!
Great question Paul. When the slide is in, you cannot walk between the dinette and the sliding bathroom door, it's just too close. However, I am able to remove the table, and climb over the dinette cushion to access the bathroom's sliding door, slide it open, and proceed to climb into the bathroom. I'm 5'10" and 165lbs, so I'm a bit agile, so other owners may have more difficulty accessing the bathroom with the slide in. Tell you what, I can make a video in the next week or two demonstrating how to access the bathroom with the slide in!
I just remembered, I do have footage of the interior with the slide in. Check out day 4 where Dan climbs under the 1575's slide on the floor to get his hat! ua-cam.com/video/DUMbtxVg-FA/v-deo.html
@@BillWinterberg That is a great idea. Because I am almost the same height as you are, but a "bit" older and sadly heavier. So, can I jump over? Will see... Thanks for your answer!
Hi Bill - I am considering this trailer and had the same question Paul had. If you'd do a video showing you going into the bathroom with the slide IN so we can see, that would be absolutely awesome!!! Otherwise, safe to assume you really like the 1575? Thanks!
Great video, thank you. I’m looking at the 1475 or 1575- it looks like you are towing with an SUV, whats the tow capacity of your vehicle? Mine is 5000lbs. Wondering if that’s sufficient for these trailers.
Yes, we tow with a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited with the long wheelbase and the 3.3liter V6 with 290HP. Properly equipped with the factory tow package and aftermarket trailer brakes, it is rated to tow 5,000 lbs with 500 lbs on the hitch. Both the 1475 and 1575 can be towed with SUVs with this towing capacity. We have towed over 20,000 miles with the Hyundai and have gone over a few passes of 9,000+ ft elevation.
Hi Bill, I assume you have sold the Lance - but I see you had custom wheels. Im trying to find out the PCD and the offset the 'standard' wheels would have. My van is aways from here so cannot measure myself. Cheers
Yes, I sold the Lance in 2021. I didn’t realize it had a custom wheel set. Those came with it when we bought it from the dealer in 2016. It was technically used, but because it was returned by the previous owner who didn’t camp in it at all because the trailer was too small. Sorry I’m not more help.
Great video! We just purchased a 2015 1575 - what is the rocker button above the fridge and when should it be used? Can’t find this in any of the manuals.
That rocker switch above the fridge allows you to run the fridge using 12 volt DC battery power. In most cases, you don’t want to do that, because the battery just isn’t robust enough to keep your fridge running for an extended period of time. We leave the switch in the 120 volt AC position all the time and never change it to 12 volt DC. That way, the fridge automatically selects 120 volt AC when you’re plugged in at a campsite or propane when you don’t have an AC power source.
Thank you!! I just created labels for 12Volt refrige on/off so no one forgets. I appreciate your getting back to me so quickly. Two more questions - what kind of surge protector did you purchase and where? And have you used an inverter using the 12V cigarette lighter jack by the bed? We’re planning on dry camping quite a bit and wondered what kind of inverter capacity we could have? My husband installed a solar panel and charge controller and for me he added a folding shelf in the bathroom for using the mirror. We’re heading out this week! Thanks for the encouragement!
@@tammypal375 We have the 30 amp surge protector from Progressive Industries: amzn.to/2EJwz0y And yes, I've used an inverter on the 12V power adapter by the bed, it is a 140W inverter. That 12V plug is on the same circuit with the TV antenna booster and the stereo system which all share a 15 amp fuse. I use the inverter mostly to charge laptops/iPads when we have our solar panels out on a sunny day and we're not connected to campground power. The laptop charger pulls up to 60W of power.
