G’day folks! Hamish’s podcast is called ‘How Other Dads Dad’ and you can listen to the episode here (or anywhere you get podcasts): howotherdadsdad.com/episode/how-beau-miles-dads
Love your stuff mate, this video was fantastic as a dad to 3 kids 6 and under, and will have to check out the Podcast! Please though, sort out the carseat. If you guys were in a crash that thing would be useless with the way she was clipped in.
I love how Beau and Hamish are complementary opposites of eachother. Hamish to his wife: "I'll text you on the sat-phone." Beau, after being gone for a week, smelling of sewage: "The video should be online in a week, doll"
The stark contrast between Beau - a lifelong adventurer, and Hamish - a presumably lifelong urbanite (albeit one with very nice dry bags and duffels) - was so incredibly entertaining. I think in other Beau videos, you just get so engrossed that you forget the more common perspective that Hamish brings in this video.
It was beautiful to see the effort Beau put into organising such an adventure for Hamish and his kids (and the willingness from Hamish to partake). This shared experience brings new learning and inspiration and strengthening the bonds of those involved. Truly beautiful stuff
Beau, I think this just might be your masterpiece. Treehouses and kayaking expeditions and train lines are great fun, but helping another dad take his family on an adventure is an absolute zinger.
If there's one takeaway from this video, it's that everyone is just winging it and praying it works out, that's the beauty of life! We don't always have to know exactly what we're doing or where we're going, as long as we remember to stop, smell the roses, sing with the animal bones, and enjoy the beauty of the journey! That's what matters, that to me is how you win at life - just enjoy it, mistakes and triumphs alike. All the best, I'm sure you're doing great 😄
This could be your best video yet. How you’ve brought other people and generations into your adventures and let them access the wonders of it all is incredible, kind and life giving! You’re a gem, Beau.
I used to listen to How Other Dads Dad on my morning runs, and one morning my runner's high led me to write in and insist that they have Beau Miles on in season 2. So I feel partly responsible for this absolutely beautiful adventure your two families got to have in the lead up to meeting each other. Looking forward to hearing the pod too.
Absolutely! And in 100% Bluey fashion, it's challenging me to be a better Dad myself. Planning a backyard adventure with the kids for the weekend as we speak!
This whole show perfectly encapsulates Bluey S03E15 Explorers! Maynard: OK, so you just keep following that road and you're there. Whoo! Jack's Dad: Great. How long will that take? Maynard: Ah, ages. Jack's Dad: Oh, man! Isn't there a quicker way? Maynard: Well, there IS a shortcut, but... Jack's Dad: But what? Maynard: Well, it's a bit of a bush road, and you look like a bit of a... Jack's Dad: Go on. Maynard: ...a city fella. Jack's Dad: Look, mate, just show me the shortcut. Maynard: OK! There's an old dirt road just here. Lulu: Dad doesn't like the car to get dirty. Jack's Dad: Lulu! Maynard: Oh, you're going to get dirty.
I am not an aussie yet consume both Hamish and Andy and Beau Miles content voraciously, what a powerfully positive crossover, love it! Fast and loose brethren
As a fellow UA-camr, not quite in the same niche as you, i was in awe of the new video on your channel. It really was next level editing, and to show the story of getting to the podcast from both sides, it really was next level. I had a smile on my face the entire 28 minutes. Watching from the other side of the world also made me miss home jsut that little bit more. Thanks Blake, Hamish and kids.
I am 39 years old and only since Beau have I truly realized (about 5 years ago), that inconvenient, difficult or time-consuming are the most important things in life. As you can tell by today's society, when things get easy, we don't grow. On a sidenote, you usually have a lot more fun, when it was hard to get to the finishing line. Much love from Canada!
I made a conscious decision many years ago not to have kids. Honestly Beau, you’re the first person to ever make me question that decision. What an amazing Dad you are and what a wonderful guide to this world and it’s possibilities you are to your kids. ❤
Why do the people who should not breed do it with such gusto and people like yourself making carefully considered decisions don’t? This is a phenomenon I’d like explored thanks universe.
As a person with only 1 kid, I can totally recommend it. I often think my friends with two or more seem swamped, but 1 kid brings the magic, but not the drama.
I know someone who chose not to have kids (overpopulation), but also chose to be present in the lives of kids around them. Some places have buddy programs for kids who don't have dads, so they can have a good male role model in their life. Or just be present and helpful to parents around you. Offer to carry the heavy pack and accompany them on their next adventure.
Beautiful sentiment. remember tho, us kid-free folks can still be the exciting pal that takes our friends kids out on adventures. Or even work with kids & bring the fun, joy, adventure that way :-)
Never would I even assume Beau would make a video with Hamish! 27:33 Caling Hamish Big love was such a wholesome greeting. All the while it looks like Beau is almost talking to himself
As a dad with a daughter who is now grown and out adventuring on her own, I just absolutely loved this. The memories those kids will keep for the rest of their lives, thanks for sharing your adventures Beau.
I really like Hamish‘s type of humor, dry while being serious. He’s a great dude! Hats off - This film is incredibly well made, great storytelling! Favorite movie up there with ‘one mile an hour’
As a young adult and someone who is flirting with the idea of having kids some day. This makes me so excited to have kids and try and be the awesome dad you are Beau!
Finished the video to find my face hurting slightly from grinning for 20-odd minutes straight. 😄 Thanks for sharing your 'whacky' adventure and awesome story-making and storytelling abilities!
Beau, I'm not sure how I found these short films-was probably Junk Cabin when I was on a binge of watching carpentry videos-but I've been watching for just over a year and a half. Videos like these always have a tendency to create opportunities for introspection. I love it. Thank you, from Kansas, for giving me the opportunity to find adventures in the mundane half a world away-and to consider fatherhood at the same time.
28 minutes of quality.. two dads with their children embarking on an adventure... you can't find better on yt and in life too. Congratulations to all 5 !!!
I'm crying at the beauty of this. What an amazing gift to give new friends and small people! the gold is in the inconvenience. Bless you 2 beautiful dads.
Ive been watching & listening to both Beau and Hame for years and this video weirldy felt like two of my good mates meeting for the first time. Love it! Thanks guys for making this, weirdly one of my favourite vids yet Beau!
My kid and I had been having a rough day today, and I watched this while I wait for her at her trampolining class. A very transactional bit of parenting, as you so rightly pointed out in the podcast itself. Thanks for what I needed to at least put myself in the right place for when she comes out of her class, and hopefully thanks from her too for the fact I'll happily and enthusiastically listen to her talk about Pokemon tonight more than I wanted to earlier.
Beau, I finished your book today in work and came home all full of optimism before the trials of family life and now there is a new video for us as well to top it up! Don't get me wrong, makes me feel like a failing dad but it inspires me to do more. So still all good vibes! You got me into trail running and now committing time to do more with my kids...maybe not camping in our Scottish winter though! All the best to all of you! Thank you for your work, it genuinely inspires and makes us happy, curious, reflective and humble.
You interacting with May reminds me a bit of me and my dad when i was younger, hes a stoic handy man but who is wise to the soul, never hesitated to have fun with his daughter. It makes my heart warm. I have never gone camping with him but he has taught me so many things i have found and will find valuable in life, much like your channel. Thank you Beau.
I love this concept of seeing Beau guide a "non outdoorsy" type through one of his backyard adventures, love the honesty from Hamish about being nervous and unsure in parts.
This has to be one of the most wholesome Dad videos I've ever seen; it has me sitting here so fuzzy and warm and wanting to take my children on an adventure! Side note, Hamish seems like a proper good bloke and I'll definitely be subscribing to his podcast.
Late to 'How Other Dad's Dad' podcast after being a H&A fan for over ten years, listening to every episode (UK listener). Started the podcast after becoming a dad for the second time this year. Found your episode incredibly inspiring Beau - and now i'm here watching this brilliant video. Thank you for inspiring so many.
@BeauMiles this is just absolute gold. Hamish's podcast is so wonderful on so many levels and this is the kind of collaboration that just makes the world a much nicer place. Well done to you both on your respective creative journeys, and in the way you challenge others to not just sit with the status quo.
6:07 - you know what they say... If you can't tie a knot, tie a lot! Also I'd like to say - I absolutely adore your videos. Literally bring tears to my eyes!!
I watched this last night and was left with a longing for an adventure with my boys. I was able to capture a small bit of it today when I went on a field trip with one of my boys and I stayed with him as he lagged behind as he tried to take in all of the exhibits while most of the rest just kept moving through, and then we spent some extra time to get some pictures he wanted and explored some of the surrounding area. It was great to capture that small moment of connection with my son so soon after. Thank you for putting stuff like this out.
I've been watching this channel since the first "A mile an hour" video, and while pretty much every single one has been great, this one is just absolutely amazing. I had a smile on my face the whole time. Thank you Beau, and keep at it.
I loved this, every minute I had a stupid grin on my face. I am a dad of 5, been married for 23 years this year and kids are the best and they are masters of making inconvenient fun possible. I would not have it any other way.
Such a wholesome and beautiful video! Edited and put together really nicely, feels like an adventure to watch. Always love your videos and filming style. Keep up the good work, cheers!
Man, I’ve seen all of your videos and this has to be one of the best! Your videos got me through some dark times during a hospital stay and you have inspired me to start a UA-cam channel to tell stories like this. Hopefully we’ll get to work together one day!
I have watched every one of your videos, and they are always such a different journey. This one takes the cake for me! What an awesome idea! You could see all the stresses and contrasts between yourself and Hamish and it was such a joy to watch. Thank you Beau as always! Love from The States!
I feel like all your videos exist to let everyone know that you can always make up your own adventure, and here we got to see Hamish do exactly that. Well done
As someone who lost his dad young, this gives me so much to look forward to in being a great dad to my own. Love all of your videos, but this hits different. Thankyou.
I actually waited till I watched the whole video to comment. I have no desire to be a parent, never will, but your desire to keep everything interesting and worthwhile is a lesson everyone needs. Thanks again Beau. Also, put your fucking seatbelt on.
As a 37 year old newish dad, that moved to Australia 12 years ago and has come to view Hamish and Beau as my two favourite Australians, I enjoyed this very much. Just wish there was more.
This is one of the best youtube vids I have seen. Being outdoors as much as possible is one of the best ways to raise kids. They may not remember the details when they are three, or five, or seven years old, but they will absorb the sense of belonging in the bush, the outback, on the water, or on a trail. As they grow up, I think it gives young people a sense of confidence that they can cope with all things and work out problems for themselves. Well done to both of the dads!
Boy, the ending left me crying... Tears of empathy and Joy I think? My Life is not always the most adventurous, but you Beau surely inspire me the most! Thank you.
Having stayed in an old house of an old friend in Braemer Bay seeing this was a wonderful surprise Beau! We walked the same track! I think that's bloody awesome.
Loved this! A bit different from the usual stories but no less perfect. And hamish seems the sort of bloke you'd like to know. And May's comment "they're coming, how fun!" just melted my heart!
This video made me laugh and cry and miss being a kid and having adventures with my Dad. He's been dead a while now, and I'm all grown up and have fewer adventures than I'd like. Laughing from my gut while crying, watching Hamish pushing the wheelbarrow up the hill, towing the wagon! Then his son helping him out. You guys are great Dads, and you gave your kids a brilliant adventure. Miss you, Dad.
Perhaps oddly, my favourite bit is at 12:48 when the curtain falls off. You say "ooh. Golly, Daddy! Something to fix already!". What a brilliant attitude 👏. Close second being Hamish's "double check". Beau if you're ever inclined to come have an adventure in the deep south of NZ, I'd be well up for being part of it. File that away in your noggin 😊
Been a subscriber and dedicated video watcher over the years to this channel and this one gave me chills. Beau you do an amazing job on your films and I'm so grateful your kiddos will get to experience their childhood in such a beautiful and natural way. Thanks for all the joy and love you spread across the internet, truly.
We should not be surprised by this video. Beau is a genius at making relatively short trips for a petrol machine into longer person powered adventures. Makes me want to get out there and do something similar. What a champion. And Hamish is such a great personality to accompany Beau. Love it.
What a great video. The production value of these just keeps going up too. Waiting for the Netflix special any day now. Oh, and Beau, my daughter is 29 (recently married), my son 22...we've been "adventuring" since each was 2 years old and we still try to do an adventure of some sort once a year despite my kids dispersing across the United States. Once a dad, always a dad. Looking forward to watching more.
That was the best idea I've seen in ages. Going on an adventure with your kids can't think of anything better. Now I've got to plan my own with my boys.
"I think he'll be a very cool dude. But, he might be, not. And that's the risk." - Beau, 2023 (about Hamish Blake, one of Australia's other most cherished humans)
Bro, I stumbled upon this and have absolutely in love with your outlook on everything. Going through a really rough time in my life with the passing of my father and another things this has been the breath of fresh air I needed to see and hear and now planning a camping trip up to lake eildon in the next couple of weeks thanks brother
Beau, it doesn't take a curious 3yo to notice that you're not wearing your seat belt. Mate, you're a dad now.... Do the right thing, wear your seat belt!
👍You probably won't realize how much I enjoyed this video, how much it relaxed me. I have my first 2 weeks in a row vacation for 3 years, the first day I was sick, been to GP, I have all the symptoms of a burn-out. Had some anxiety attacks (worries, failure, regret, fear,...) , watching your vids calms me, relaxes me... simply make me feel good. Hence been binge watching them. Thx mate!

Another classic example of Beau turning what would otherwise be a pretty simple task, into a beautiful adventure. Amazing stuff as always!
"You know what this task could use? Tripling the work and going way out of my way"
Why did I read this comment in beaus voice?
@@NoblePineapplestripling? I'd give it a little more than that.😊

No, really Beau! If everyone had a father like you (and a mother like Helen) the world would be a little bit more pleasant@@BeauMiles
What an adorable video. ❤
I love how Beau and Hamish are complementary opposites of eachother.
Hamish to his wife: "I'll text you on the sat-phone."
Beau, after being gone for a week, smelling of sewage: "The video should be online in a week, doll"
I am never not in awe of your work, Beau.
Hamish when the birds got all riled up made me chuckle😂 "Beau's close.."
Yeah. Golden line. The bugger is quick on his feet
May's little 'They're coming! How fun!' at 27:13 was just the cutest thing
I thought she said “they’re coming, help them!” Either way, extremely cute
Definitely "How fun!", and so cute! 😊
Hamish would love you calling him common, he constantly gets bagged on the hamish and andy pod for "losing touch with the common man" 😂
It was beautiful to see the effort Beau put into organising such an adventure for Hamish and his kids (and the willingness from Hamish to partake).
This shared experience brings new learning and inspiration and strengthening the bonds of those involved.
Truly beautiful stuff
You should watch some of the hamish and Andy travel specials, he gets into some adventure. Plus it’s a good laugh.
Hamish definitely has the most urbanite car too lol
Yeah man! Hamish: All the gear, no idea; Beau: All the idea, no gear. They complement each other perfectly. :D
Beau, I think this just might be your masterpiece. Treehouses and kayaking expeditions and train lines are great fun, but helping another dad take his family on an adventure is an absolute zinger.

100% agree. I've loved every video, but this brilliant for all the reasons you've said!

Such a wholesome and beautiful video! Edited and put together really nicely, feels like an adventure to watch. Always love your videos and filming style. Keep up the good work, cheers!
Thanks emo. Cheers to saying so
Man, I’ve seen all of your videos and this has to be one of the best!
His daughter's seatbelts also are not "on" correctly.
Did you notice the canoe and packraft didn’t have a roof on😲get a grip people 💋
The willingness to admit that you might not be a good dude, it's wrong but appreciated.
I loved this episode. These guys are the type of dad I want to be when that time comes.
As a 37 year old newish dad, that moved to Australia 12 years ago and has come to view Hamish and Beau as my two favourite Australians, I enjoyed this very much. Just wish there was more.
Incredible storytelling, incredible cinematography, incredible people! What an amazing video!
This video brought a huge smile on my face, well done Beau!Lots of love from Greece!
Backatcha
The crossover none of us knew we were waiting for! Your generosity of spirit is inspiring. Loved the film, and the podcast.
Your daughter is sooo cute! I can just tell your good vibes rubbing off on her. Lovely video as usual 😀 Can we see the video podcast anywhere?
I think it's only audio but it's called how other dad's dad
Boy, the ending left me crying... Tears of empathy and Joy I think? My Life is not always the most adventurous, but you Beau surely inspire me the most! Thank you.
Having stayed in an old house of an old friend in Braemer Bay seeing this was a wonderful surprise Beau! We walked the same track! I think that's bloody awesome.
As a Dad, this is now my new favorite Beau video. The hits keep on coming. Congrats on the journey, Hamish! Fantastic story telling, Beau!
I wish I could like this more than once! LOVE IT!!
This is one of the best, most wholesome, honest things ive seen in years. Your story telling really brought a tear to my eye.
I really wanna see the behind the scenes for this one, i can really see the effort in this story
Lots of it, indeed. Bloody hell, it was almost a week to shoot!
@@BeauMiles far out, a BTS video would be amazing and hilarious and so insightful hahahaha
I’m convinced it’s the kids who made this amazing!
Loved this! A bit different from the usual stories but no less perfect. And hamish seems the sort of bloke you'd like to know. And May's comment "they're coming, how fun!" just melted my heart!
Two of the best humans in Aus together. It’s great to see
This video made me laugh and cry and miss being a kid and having adventures with my Dad.
We hear you Kirsty. Ta for the watch my friend.
Love you, Beau. Always a good day when you upload.
Oh man, so good in every respect. Fabulous story with a wonderful cast. ❤
I could not stop smiling for the duration of the film. There is so much joy and poetry packed in this! Love what you're making Beau
This is cool your are so wholesome and wacky but enjoyable
We should not be surprised by this video. Beau is a genius at making relatively short trips for a petrol machine into longer person powered adventures. Makes me want to get out there and do something similar. What a champion. And Hamish is such a great personality to accompany Beau. Love it.
This is some good content. Reminds of back in the day when TV actually had a decent show on every once in a while.
How quick witted is Hamish, so many great lines! Beau you’ve done it again (no surprise). What a fantastic video.
I remember listening to a bit of Hamish and Andy for like 7 years ago because of Luke and Lewis
what a ripper duo! both the best ❤
Your videos are so unique it is crazy.
He is wearing it Champ
Really, that's all you noticed
@@hbvlogs3474 He is wearing it incorrectly Champ
Absolutely brilliant as usual. You're an awesome dad and filmaker Beau. Big props to Hamish and his kids for taking on the challenge as well.
Thx mate!
