- The Night Riviera train run by GWR is England's only sleeper train, running from London Paddington station to Penzance, Cornwall, in western England. In this video I review the whole experience, from the GWR First Class Lounge, to the cafe car, to the sleeper cabin for one to two people. We also talk about how much the Night Riviera Sleeper Train costs and if it's worth it.

About Love and London:
I'm Jess, I've lived in London for many years, and this channel is a London travel guide for anyone visiting the city that wants to experience it like you live here. Beyond talking about the usual London attractions, I show you some of the cooler things to do in London, that most travel guides don't mention. Watch my videos and you'll feel like you've got a Londoner friend telling you the best kept secrets in the city.
This was fun to watch Jess, and I really enjoy train travel. Thanks for the review.
Thanks so much for watching Kate !
"It smells like the Queens been here" Gee not in the last month or so you'd hope ;-)
Terrific informative video as always Jess!
haha no I think it was the ghost of Queen Victoria... thanks for watching!
Very helpful. Maybe worth mentioning that although only toilets are to be found on the train, shower facilities are available at both Paddington and Penzance stations.
In the lounge yes!
So glad to see this video! I recently drove to St. Ives & Penzance in Cornwall with my family, on a road trip through the entire west country... and OOF that was a long drive! Never again! When I learned about the history of the train from London, I thought Yep that's what we're doing next time! (Side note: I'm American, and one of my best train rides ever was the Coast Starlight train from San Diego all the way up to Seattle! I brought two books to read, but instead I just stared out the window or chatted with delightful fellow passengers the whole time... it was a great experience!)
Ah so glad you enjoyed it! I always prefer the train to driving it's lovely :) Thanks for watching!
Not a long trip from anywhere, motorway and dual carriageway all the way. Wonder what route you took?
Been looking forward to your new video and this did not disappoint! I was hoping you'd show us around Penzance a little but maybe that's your next video!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for watching ❤️
very beautiful train and journey Jess.😊😇🥰😍🤗
Thanks for watching Anil!
Should review the caledonian sleeper from london to Scotland in summer, some beautiful scenery 👌
I bet!
I have used that train a couple of times but the other way. We got on at Plymouth and got off at Paddington.
Great watch Jess, brought back happy memories.
Nice! Thanks for watching Dean!
It looks like fun!Id love to experience this!I have been to Scotland and Edinburgh in the Summer for the 150 th World Golf Tournament! It was an amazing experience!I love travel!
Nice! Thanks for watching.
Lovely place Penzance. I hope you visited all the stuff to see there. St Michaels Mount, Lizard Point, Cape Cornwall, St Ives etc. Been there so many times since my childhood.
We were just talking about if we should do a sleeper car in the UK. Thanks for the video, this has definitely helped us. 🎉
nice! thanks for watching!
I love this! Thanks for taking this journey and sharing with us, Jess. I hope that on my next trip across the pond to the UK to do this journey, both for the GWR sleeper experience as well as to see Cornwall. 🚄🚆
Fun fact - if you're occupying a cabin on the "Night Riviera" (English) or "Koskador Ruvyer an Nos" (Cornish) then you're entitled to complimentary, unlimited shortbread biscuits and hot chocolate in the Lounge Car, which stays open throughout your eight-hour, 325 mile journey between England and Cornwall.
Amazing! Thanks for watching Lori!
Credit to the cameraman. Very well captured in a tricky environment to film.
This was an amazing journey you showed us! Have taken the train to Penzance but wasn‘t like that!! Next time I will take this sleeper train. I am curious about how much it cost? I love the first class lounge thank you for showing it to us! Beautiful, classy, just like the British are. Such lovely people, that‘s why I married one! ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching Kat! I go over pricing at the end of the video :)
Yeah, but some of us are nasty!
Great video - love train travel in the UK but have never done a sleeper train. Something to add to the travel wish list. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching Tina!
I've travelled on the Night Riveria Sleeper Service a few times and I enjoyed it.
I'm planning to travel by Night Riveria Sleeper Service from London Paddington to Penzance again in December.
Nice !! Thanks for watching :)
I did this a few years back and had a great nights sleep. Looked out of the window and saw the sign for Reading, dozed off and we were stopped, looked out again and it said Plymouth.
Nice !! Thanks for watching :)
I love this channel so much. I want to live in London one day.
:) thanks for watching!
Exactly how I remembered my experience in the Sleeper from Paddington to Penzance back in August. Was a nightmare to book the cabin option given I had a Great Britain rail pass but I’m glad I persisted (and thanks to the Avanti West Coast customer service officer at Manchester for helping this clueless Australian.
Nice!! Thanks for watching :)
Longest train journey I ever took was Athens to Munich. We passed through Yugoslavia, as it was then called. Long time ago now.
Cool! Thanks for watching!
I remember taking a overnight sleeper from Lisbon to Madrid in 2018. The difference is their was 3 other people in the same room. Nevertheless it was still worth it. Luckily I was able to sleep overnight and it got very cold 🥶 once the train 🚂 reached the mountains 🏔.
Ah yes ! Well thanks for watching !
Booked to travel on the night Riviera next month really looking forward to it travelled on the Caledonian sleeper a few times on the mk 3 coaches like used on the Riviera but haven't tried the Caledonian sleet with new trains
How was it?
Your review videos always alluring 😃
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️
I would like to go to Cornwall in the summer holiday’s of 2023 ❤❤
Nice!
Loved it. Must do that trip sometime.👍😊🇮🇪🇬🇧
:) Thanks for watching!
A cabin is £150 now! On top of £82 for the ticket. I must have got unlucky with the days I picked.
I used to live in Bristol, and GWR was the name of the local radio station. This has no relevance to your video. Thank you for your time.
I thought that you might have seen, and remarked upon, the bilingual writing on the exterior of the Mark 3 Sleeper carriages - Night Riviera Sleeper in English and Koskador Ruvyer an Nos in Cornish! The last person raised from birth to speak Cornish as her first language was Dorothy "Dolly" Pentreath of Mousehole, who lived from 1692-1777. There is a Sleeper Lounge with complimentary refreshments and showers at Penzance/Pensans, which I've used on a few occasions. Unlike Serco Group plc's "Caledonian Sleeper" trains you don't need a First Class ticket to travel on GWR's "Night Riviera" as it's completely Standard Class, meaning that cheap Super Off-Peak Singla and Return tickets are valid on it. And, unlike the Caledonian Sleepers, the light breakfast served to your cabin in the morning is complimentary!
I'm pretty sure breakfast is complimentary on Caledonian too! Thanks for watching.
@@loveandlondon - Breakfast is only free if you are travelling First Class with CS ie in an en suite cabin with shower and toilet.
I've got aGoogle Pixel 6. LOVE IT. Not sure if I'm gonna spring for the new 7 or wait another generation.
Amazing! They do last quite a while I must say
I loved the video please keep them coming. What is there to do in Cornwall? Thank You for great videos. Can't wait to get back to the UK.
Thanks so much, really glad to hear it :) We didn't stay in Cornwall as it was the down season but maybe one day I'll get back there!
@@loveandlondon parts of Cornwall in season are jammed with people. When you went the light was beautiful. There are always things to do there any time of year. You might like St Ives and Truro.
Cornwall is on my list!
Nice !! Thanks for watching !
Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching !
Great adventure. Thank you.
Thanks for watching !
Love your videos 👍.
Thanks so much!
And it costs 500 pounds, or more! Because on sec clas day train to go to Plymouth costs 136, the cheapest. It's a steal.
It cost me £80 when I rode it last year.
Hi Vanessa I talked about costs at the end so be sure to watch :) thanks for watching !
Thank you!
Sleeping carriages are one of the best ways to travel IMHO.
😎😎😎
Sounds like you and John had a fun trip, personally at times it's better than traviling by bus. Sadly, they don't have greyhound buses in Canada anymore, and I can honesty say speanding over a 120 hours in a seat with a disscusting bathroom; never again. Did John enjoy the temp living accomodations?
Yes Jean enjoyed it as well. Thanks for watching ❤️
SO COOL!
Something i have always wanted to do is travel long distance on a train like the one in the movie Silver Streak. I just love that chilled atmosphere of having your own room and a bar and restaurant section 🙂
Oh it's lovely, honestly. Big fan of long train rides.
So you had a camera person follow you on the train - hence the adjoining rooms?
Yes my videographer had the other room
Exeter my stop off for Exmouth 👍
That bar of soap...I bet it's the kind of soap that strips the 1st layer if skin when you use it.... 😜
haha not sure didn't use it
What do you think of Paddington station?
Nice trains
❤️❤️❤️
thanks, if it wasn't hard enough to get a berth on there already you're trying to broaden the user base
It was very easy for us to book the two cabins about two weeks in advance :) Thanks for watching!
train is nice but i felt the short distance is not necessary for a night train compared to london to scotland..
You can do normal 5 hours during the day if you prefer !
Meanwhile we have caledonian sleeper charging 200+ for a single cabin. Night riviera has a cosy cabin as well..
Different product though!
@@loveandlondon Very true, I feel that serco went overkill with the transformation had made the products out of reach of the majority after getting rid of the mk3. The seated sleeper is priced decently though.
Is there a shower?
Not on board but you can use the showers in the first class lounges at either end before you get on or after you get off.
Not on the train, but there are showers in the lounges at London, Penzance and Truro that you can use for free.
Nope! But there is one in the lounge !
You missed all the views and beautiful countryside.
Bed is too small … better to sleep in the floor ??
ummmmmm.... no?
Don't know if you mind or not,but you're losing the American accent
lol my friends in London would definitely disagree with you! Thanks for watching!
That will cost you . An arm and a leg to travel on that.. 🙄😤
Oh, no, it won't. The Night Riviera/Koskador Ruvyer an Nos is an exclusively Standard-class service on which cheap Super Off-Peak Single and Return tickets are valid. Why don't you check your facts before putting finger to keyboard?
I cover prices at the end!
