Render Alert for REAPER

- There's a new script for REAPER to play a sound when renders complete. You can choose any sound to play, and you just need to add the script to your global startup action.
Personally I find this extremely useful as I often start watching a video or walk to the kitchen and when I come back I totally forgot about the work I was doing and potentially hours go by without realizing I had been waiting for a file to render. I might have ADHD.

Turns out I showed the wrong Reapack link in the video, use the one linked in the description instead
this is amazing! I wish EVERY app ever would have this option. Especially video editors~
Adobe encoder has it. For daws, I only know of Fl studio that does this with out any prior settings . Also Shutter encoder.
I
Best post render sound. Cocooo 🐔
(This is definitely the kind of feature which could be native).
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Amazing! Love this.
Thanks, Jon!
Useful feature when you regularly launch render queues with many files !
Cool. That's the main reason I turn on render-statistics. It's no chicken sound, but it's something.
Pretty cool! I've been thinking about building a DIY solution that would send a text message to my phone when a render completes. -chaz
'jobs done!' from the impossible creatures minion. thank you.
I wish one of the native options was to shutdown the computer when all renders have completed.
I haven't watched the video, i just came to say 2 things:
1) Thank you for the videos.. I might have not watched this one (yet) but you've helped me countless of times
2) Why is the reaper logo/icon flipped in the thumbnail? hahah like I was looking at it and something was off, i started questioning my sanity for a second, like "is this how it really is?? is this how it's always been?? is anything real, or have I imagined everything up to now??"
I like to flip it for reaper 7.
Was that dog of wisdom? 🐶
Love your videos, but this definitely could have been a short
I hate making shorts but I could try
@@TheREAPERBlog I totally get that, almost all your videos make sense in long format, but something like this could for sure have been condensed down and would get more views and keep the audiences attention. Another benefit is a lot of folks discover people's channels by watching watching shorts. Either way keep up the amazing work you're an invaluable resource to the reaper community.
While we're talking about renders... could devs add a checkbox to prevent Reaper from deleting the render queue list once render is finished? Creating big render queues can take a while and a lot of times you need to re-export & overwrite everything.
Sometimes I will go into the render queue folder and zip up all the files before I start the render
@@puzzlefactorysoundstudios wut doesn't that make the files inaccessible to reaper for rendering?
@@JimBaker-ks4io no, I don't delete them, I just zip them up.
@@puzzlefactorysoundstudios yeah I understood that, but zipping them would normally make them unreadable by reaper
@@JimBaker-ks4io What ? No, it doesn't. When you zip a file, the original file remains exactly where it started, a COPY of it is placed into a compressed ("zipped") file. REAPER can still read the queued project files because they are still there in their untouched state. You have an ADDITIONAL copy of said file(s) inside the .ZIP file. REAPER doesn't even know to look for that .ZIP file (nor could it read it even if it did), so REAPER is none-the-wiser.
2 lines above Mespotine's script there's another script with the same or similar functionality
Didn't know about that one
The other one by BuyOne previews the last rendered file after rendering which is a slightly different approach.
@@TheRealMespotine it just plays a file whatever it is, it could be the rendered one
Is it possible to add a start up sound in reaper like fl studio ? that will be cool !
I'm in need for help with this rendering process.... I cant get my audio project to record now. never had this process before or the issues with recording any music projects. can the render be removed from reaper?
when I hit render, my render window stays on and show when render finishes but the sound doesn't play until I close the render window. am I doing anything wrong or it is supposed be like this?
edit: I forgot to check "close render window when finishes" , thanks!
Ahh, will check if I can improve on this. I have an idea on how to make it happen.
@@TheRealMespotine mate, really thank you a lot. It was a shortcoming in my end that I forgot to check the "close render window when finishes" . I think It is just reaper's functionality that the render window stays on until it is done. I wonder if there is any scripts that auto minimize render window.
I could auto minimize it but the user might want to keep it opened. Nevertheless I found out why the issue happens and I already opened up a "bugreport" on the forum for it, since it could be fixed by the devs.
It's in the nitpicks-subforum.
@@TheRealMespotine awesome work!
I was so expecting the Warcraft 3 worker sfx "Job's Done"? so much, that I actually disappointed myself when I clicked on the "proof it works."
That would be in my top 5 choices for sounds for this.
Ooh yeah. And wasn't there one in Dune 2 (PC), as well?
now THATS usin yer noggin kiddos!! 😄
Great idea, but a disappointing execution. I need to leave the "Finished Rendering in..." window open so I can check levels.
I guess the only solution for me is a native option. This seems entirely easy to include, let's hope for it sometime in R7.x
I assumed it did work with that setting, but I didn't check.
@@TheREAPERBlog in the script, there are notes, which includes that this works by creating a track, playing the sound, then deleting itself. It works great if you don't need that window open, I guess. Just a bit clumsy
Perhaps this action is ok?
File: Display statistics from most recent render in web browser
🥚🐣🐤🐔BA-AHHHH-CCKKKKK
smart
Even better jump to rendered audio in media explorer
I'm sure it is possible
hahahahaha that's nice & funny 😀
It renders so fast I don't know why I'd need an alert?
depends on the project of course. I have some that 5 seconds and some that take nearly an hour.
I'm surely missing something. Not sure why this is important. I've rendered music and video but didn't need to be told when it's finished? Maybe you're talking about something that doesn't exist in my workflow. [edit: Yep, a non-issue for me]
I love how getting to know Reaper is almost like the old days when I was a programmer lol. I've used Steinberg Pro-24, Cubase, Reason and Reaper. Reaper is the best by far but prepare to scratch your head for about 3-4 years ;)
do you just sit there and watch the progress bar? If it takes longer than 3 seconds I switch tasks and forget
Render never takes me long enough to get bored of just sitting there, taking a a breather and just self reflecting.
If it was a video I guess it would be useful, but I'd just go do something else and come check back, I have a pretty good internal clock for that kinda stuff, always get to the wash when it's just finished up lol
@@Windiguana Apple/macOS has a pretty heavy emphasis on notifications. I’ve always liked Final Cut Pro X’s render notifications, same with Blender. Those take some time to complete, so I’m often doing other things on my computer or stepping away, and (if finished) the notification will be there when I come back. It’s also a reassuring feeling seeing the notification, but I guess I’m just very used it. Certainly not a necessity.
I strongly disagree with The REAPER Blog’s 2016 forum post, however, and I was surprised to hear him say the lack of a sound after a completed render makes REAPER unusable and unprofessional. Strange, I can’t tell if this is very exaggerated/sarcasm. A sound notification would be a built-in feature if it was that essential. Most people probably haven’t thought about it; nowhere close to a showstopper or cheapening the DAW at ALL. I respect The REAPER Blog, but that take makes zero sense to me.
Personally, I won’t use this script because I like quiet notifications, and the built-in functionality is fine for that.
@@TheREAPERBlog I hear you, I rarely render anything but tunes, only takes a minute. That's prolly why :) Love your work btw! Been watching for the longest time :)
@@NovianLeVanMusicthe top half of the 2016 post was extreme sarcasm.
