Just came back to thank you for this video,I just fitted a DRO to my ML10 using the same techniques you showed here ... a great addition to my Myford :)
Please note that your DRO is constantly displaying the message "ALE" , this is a warning that you need a beer URGENTLY. Please get a beer and drink it or the lathe will then go into "bong" mode.
Hi, I have purchased these items for my ML10 and was thinking about fixing the longitudinal one directly to the back of the lathe bed along with the supplied cover. Obviously, this would involve drilling and tapping into the lathe casting though and not entirely sure if this would be ok to do, could I ask you what are your thoughts?
@@myfordboy thanks for the reply, plan on following your lead with the JB weld. Not sure if I want to drill holes in the lathe bed though may mount it to the tray like you mention.
Why not configure the DRO for diameter measurement instead of radius? I don't have this exact model, but on mine you press the decimal after bootup and it goes into the config screen, arrow down until you get to the d or r question and change it to d.
I was suprised too. The Sino model I have does not have the lathe mode available during set up. The generic manual that was supplied refers to an SEL light that indicates diameter mode but my display does not have this.
@@myfordboy does it have setting for scale resolution? you might be able to fool it into a diameter mode by setting the scale res to half the actual resolution (i.e. it'll count twice as much per pulse)
That would work, good idea. I think I prefer to use it like shown though, easier to take a cut until the display reads zero rather than say cutting until it read 0.1875"
Easiest way i used to use was to take a cut on dia, set X to 0 . move tool and measure dia. move to x- (what it measured) then reset to X0 and your done. Set for actual dia now, not size of cuts. nice and cheap chineesium does the trick
odd way to work a dro? i.e. face then zero Z . skim cut , measure , type measurement into X axis , turn to 6mm length and diameter and any other diameters and lengths you need.
Indeed... I usually type in what I've measured, because sometimes the calipers change ever so slightly during zero-ing like that, and if you have more than 1 diameter to cut you can go read off the DRO. Love this kind of video though, no music, just somebody happy at work.

@@fasousa4798 Myfords are fantastic lathes I have had a Myford Super 7B long bed for the last 24 years bought it new it is still going strong and I use it every day as I am a stationary engine collector!!!

I fitted mine to the tray, no reason you could not fit them to the bed. You may have to pack the brackets as the cast surface may not be flat.

This DRO does not have that facility. The one I fitted to the mill and have the link to does though.

I have a cheap magnetic DRO fitted to my Super 7, back then these chinese units were not available. I should upgrade it.
