If you look at the various camera angles of each perons face,as they have his or her crime announced, you will see the judge has a low shot. One that looks up at him. He is the only person shot from that angle. A subtle way of singling him out as the killer.

Yeah, I would think that the low shot is supposed to symbolize him as the person being higher than the others, the mastermind manipulating them and quite literally, the judge who condemns them all.

Not the best film of the story, but it was the first in color and had an all star cast. Bond fans may get a kick out of seeing Goldfinger and Largo together. It may also have inspired Neil Simon's parody Murder by Death (1976).

I've seen this movie dozens of times, but I'm only now noticing this. Watch Maria Rohm (Mrs. Martino, the cook, in the background over Vera's left shoulder) at 1:40, after the Voice accuses Lombard - she anticipates the recording by turning sharply toward Judge Cannon a split second before his name is mentioned.

This entire adaption was absolutely absurd! Firstly, they moved the locale from an island (which was the original setting) to some Arabian Nights hotel in the Iranian desert that is situated next to ancient ruins! A large hotel with no phones, no motor car, and no radio! Are we to believe that an establishment as large as a hotel has no manner of communication? Also, who builds an extravagant hotel 200 miles from civilization with no forms of communication? Ridiculous!
Secondly, it was moved from its original setting in 1939 to contemporary times which literally kills the nostalgia and magic of the story.
Thirdly, they changed every characters name (safe for two persons) their character persona, and the history of their crimes.
Fourthly, they changed manners of death, and the poem (which some lines were changed) doesn’t align with how the characters are killed. The first character merely falls over dead (doesn’t choke his little self). The second ‘runs away’ but to where? They are 200 miles from anything! And is strangled after. The third one is supposed to ‘meet a pussycat’ and is merely stabbed (no cat is met or seen). The fourth one is supposed to be ‘finished by the chopper while chopping sticks) and runs away to escape into the desert and burns to death from the heat (that would have aligned better with the second death). The fifth one is ‘stung by a bee’ and is bitten by a poisonous snake. The sixth one ‘goes into chancery’ and is shot in the head (like in the novel) but is not dressed in the judicial robes or wig. The seventh one is ‘swallowed by a red herring’ which happens but he is simply laying on the ground dead with no evidence of how he was killed - he is simply dead! The eighth one is supposed to be ‘hugged by a bear’ and is pushed from a ledge to his death (no bear or anything is referenced in the manner of death). The ninth one ‘got frizzled up’ and is shot like in the novel and the last one is to ‘hang himself’ as in the novel but both actually survive (as they do in the play - NOT IN THE NOVEL). It is absolutely absurd that none of the deaths matched the stanzas of the rhyme.
Do not waste your time with the 1945 version, 1965 version, this version or the 1989 version (even though it does maintain the period of the piece, few name changes are made, and the manners of death align with the poem) but watch the 2015 BBC version. It is the best by far and follows the novel, for the most part, very faithfully - even the ending.

@@simontruss3332 Exactly! The entire film is garbage. The only good thing I can say about it is the scenery and the beautiful interior of the hotel. But not even those things can save this sinking ship! Again, the 2015 BBC version is the most faithful. It stays completely devoted to the atmosphere, tone, characters, and time period that Christie envisioned and wrote of in the novel.
