I'm trying to learn this on guitar and thought maybe seeing her playing it would help me understand. Lies. Now I'm just wondering what possessed me to try to learn this... There are very few people I've seen perform live who have that kind of mastery with a guitar. Amazes me every time.
Awesome video! She gives the most dynamic live concerts. I haven't seen her live since the 90's...this makes me want to see her again! Thanks for posting this.
une performance là encore quelque soit ma sensibilité du moment, je suis touché pae cette manifestation de vie, de générosité. Elle lâche les chevaux, non ?
i love when artists are in their first ten years of singing-it seems so much more gutteral-soul searching/honest/rageful etc. sometimes this gets lost when their lives become more full with marriage, kids, etc. ani still great but her earlier music is the tops.
Oh, the heat is so great It plays tricks with the eye It turns the road into water Then from water to sky And there's a crack in the concrete floor It starts at the sink There's a bathroom in a gas station And I've locked myself in it to think Back in the city The sun bakes the trash on the curb The men are pissing in doorways And the rats run in herds And I've got a dream with your face in it That scares me awake I put too much on my table And now I got too much a stake And I might let you off easy Yeah I might lead you on I might wait for you to look for me And then I might be gone This where I come from and where I'm going And I'm lost in between I might go up to that phone booth And leave a veiled invitation on you machine And you'll stop me, won't you If you've heard this one before The one where I surprise you By showing up at your front door Saying "let's not ask what's next Or how, or why" I am leaving in the morning So let's not be shy Be shy The door opens, the room winces The housekeeper comes in without a warning I squint at the muscular motel light And say, hey good morning As she jumps, her keys jingle And she leaves as quickly as she came in I roll over and taste the pillow with my grin The sheets are twisted and damp Well the heat is so great And I swear I can feel the mattress Sinking underneath your weight Oh sleep is like a fever And I'm glad when it ends Oh, the road flows like a river And pulls me around every bend Stop me, won't you If you've heard this one before The one where I surprise you By showing up at your front door Saying "let's not ask what's next Or how, or why" I am leaving in the morning So let's not be shy Be shy, oh shy Ah, the heat is so great It plays tricks with the eye It turns road into water Then from water to sky And there's a crack in the concrete floor And it starts at the sink There's a bathroom in the gas station And I have locked myself In it to think And you'll stop me, won't you If you've heard this one before The one where I surprise you By showing up at your front door Saying "let's not ask what's next Or how, or why" I am leaving in the morning So let's not be shy You'll stop me, won't you If you've heard this one before Oh, one where I surprise you By showing up at your front door Saying "let's not ask what's next How, or why" I am leaving in the morning So let's not be shy Be shy, be shy, be shy Shy, shy, shh, shh
After reading her autobiography, it's tough to see this knowing the frame of mind she was in circa 2003 -- overwhelmed, sad, and not doing well. Then again, misery is (mostly) good for art.
It seems as though HQ is no longer an option... Is this the case for anyone else? I have watched this video several times in HQ, but it no longer appears (at least for me) on the video toolbar...
Can you send me a message and tell me where you found this video.... I actually shot this concert... Thats me on the left hand of the stage. I would love to find a copy.
I love this song... I'm jammin' in the library... people are starring... I LOVE IT!!
I've loved her for years. Such an amazing musician.

Saw her about a decade before this show, and then the next year. Amazing musician and writer.
i just love her since I was 12 (now i'm 30)
+Margherita Ferri Me too, since 12 too, except I am now 31 :)
Margherita Ferri hehe me too
she’s had a hand in sculpting who i am too - like an awesome aunt who never visits but sends me these random, loving letters of wisdom.
Margherita Ferri I’m the same...listening since I was 15 and I’m now 31 and finally going to see her live next year ❤️
wow, i got chills, she is endlessly talented.

Such an awesome woman! Love her music ♥
Voice, guitar and UNIVERSE! ❤
Ohhh, god. I love when she forgets the lyrics and she's just improvising the whole time. It just brings a smile to my face.
A goddess pure and simple.
what a riff... what a performance...
I have loved her since I was 20 (27 now) ❤️ #truelove

I realllllllyyyy agree with this totally true.
But then...they get reborn and rejuvenated and it can often lead to greatness.
I love her. So much.
I love this women!
I love this. She's so in touch with her audience! I love the part where she forgets her lyrics. :-)

Oh, the heat is so great
It plays tricks with the eye
It turns the road into water
Then from water to sky
And there's a crack in the concrete floor
It starts at the sink
There's a bathroom in a gas station
And I've locked myself in it to think
Back in the city
The sun bakes the trash on the curb
The men are pissing in doorways
And the rats run in herds
And I've got a dream with your face in it
That scares me awake
I put too much on my table
And now I got too much a stake
And I might let you off easy
Yeah I might lead you on
I might wait for you to look for me
And then I might be gone
This where I come from and where I'm going
And I'm lost in between
I might go up to that phone booth
And leave a veiled invitation on you machine
And you'll stop me, won't you
If you've heard this one before
The one where I surprise you
By showing up at your front door
Saying "let's not ask what's next
Or how, or why"
I am leaving in the morning
So let's not be shy
Be shy
The door opens, the room winces
The housekeeper comes in without a warning
I squint at the muscular motel light
And say, hey good morning
As she jumps, her keys jingle
And she leaves as quickly as she came in
I roll over and taste the pillow with my grin
The sheets are twisted and damp
Well the heat is so great
And I swear I can feel the mattress
Sinking underneath your weight
Oh sleep is like a fever
And I'm glad when it ends
Oh, the road flows like a river
And pulls me around every bend
Stop me, won't you
If you've heard this one before
The one where I surprise you
By showing up at your front door
Saying "let's not ask what's next
Or how, or why"
I am leaving in the morning
So let's not be shy
Be shy, oh shy
Ah, the heat is so great
It plays tricks with the eye
It turns road into water
Then from water to sky
And there's a crack in the concrete floor
And it starts at the sink
There's a bathroom in the gas station
And I have locked myself
In it to think
And you'll stop me, won't you
If you've heard this one before
The one where I surprise you
By showing up at your front door
Saying "let's not ask what's next
Or how, or why"
I am leaving in the morning
So let's not be shy
You'll stop me, won't you
If you've heard this one before
Oh, one where I surprise you
By showing up at your front door
Saying "let's not ask what's next
How, or why"
I am leaving in the morning
So let's not be shy
Be shy, be shy, be shy
Shy, shy, shh, shh
I love to watch this women play guitar and break strings!!!!
After reading her autobiography, it's tough to see this knowing the frame of mind she was in circa 2003 -- overwhelmed, sad, and not doing well. Then again, misery is (mostly) good for art.
this was my first ani experience. Would love it if she would just allow all her performances to be documented.

@Movie Recap 4you GET IN LINE
I saw Ani about 25 years ago when she was supporting Bob Dylan. She was MUCH better than him. Loved her sincerity ever since ❤️
Omg I wish this was better resolution
Is there an HD version?!🤣🤞
You can hear her fingers but it's hard to see them do their magic on those strings
That is crazy :P
It seems as though HQ is no longer an option... Is this the case for anyone else? I have watched this video several times in HQ, but it no longer appears (at least for me) on the video toolbar...
@MzHibou thanks, I forgot about that ;)
yes :D
I have no idea :( ...think I'll have to upload it again
It would be a sin to stop this video mid-song so now I will be late
oh man. is your sn a portmanteau of fiona apple and ani difranco??
if yes, then i tip my hat to you, lady
@EricSchwin22 I think they mean the sound is out of sync with the video, not that she's playing anything out of sync...........
@amanda burris, she's tuned to f#m
does anybody have a clue what tuning she is using?
I was wondering the same thing right now, do you know it now?
what happened? it's now 2 seconds :(
Can you send me a message and tell me where you found this video.... I actually shot this concert... Thats me on the left hand of the stage. I would love to find a copy.
yeah, being shy is the last thing u wana do.
@LuideeMedia....are you serious? You listened to too much MTV or Radio! Because this music is definitely not out of sync
Never seen anyone ATTACK a 6 string like a lover during makeup sex before......
GODDAMN.......
Baby don't be so mean.....
And yes I've been a fan for many years
@LuideeMedia out of sync? really?
I was there and i didn't like it.
Ur the best, A. Ull always be my favorite, but this wasn't ur deal.
