The new marina is going to be nice and long overdue. I have to say that Riverview Park was so much prettier before they covered it in concrete and crap for the now long gone gambling boat. Just trees and a beautiful expanse of green grass and you could drive feet from the river along the entire length of the park. Remember lots of football, baseball games, picnics and great kite and rc plane flying. Fishing wasn't bad either.
I always wondered why so many parking spaces now I know, sounds like it was a lot more natural area to enjoy, before promises of making money off of a docked gambling boat, interesting, thanks for the insight.
Whoever made the absolutely horrible decision to dump roadway concrete debris in the park areas cost them well over a full year’s expenses trying to deal with it. The park is still littered with it. Imagine trying to cut the grass or service the park areas after the building construction is complete.
The dirt was where they pumped all the silt from the marina. The plan, if I remember right, is after the dredgings dry, they'll be spread over the area to raise much of it higher so flooding isn't an issue. There are planning a place for fueling, a convenience type store for boaters and I believe a restaurant concession for the marina. There's a video of what it's supposed to look like ua-cam.com/video/VSS4IKxB1F8/v-deo.html
After visiting there in august of 2021 and seeing such a nice park, is was disheartening to see all the mature trees in that area leveled. Surely that section didn't need to become a wasteland. It'll be at least 20 -30 years before there any decent shade tress again.
Unfortunately that's where the marina dredgings went. I hated to see the trees lost too but with the raising of the park level they had to go I guess. Hopefully they have the money to transplant some decent sized trees to get a head start on new shade.
Neat to see the airial perspective. Watching the Railfan feed from the ground squished it all together. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!

Was that a prison there at the end of the video; sure looked like it?
Beautiful views and loved the music too.
Thanks!
Yes, That is the "historic" penitentiary. I don't believe it houses inmates any longer. The new facility is a few miles north of the old one.

Great video! We really enjoyed seeing the large view you presented! What is the plan for the area that appears as black dirt beside the new marina?

Nice video. Not a fan of the marina. Ruined a very nice park.
marina all about the rich folks playing with their boats and certain contractors making millions on it
