2:44 : that overlong ledge grab; you can almost see the Shiek player take a breath and compose themselves before resolving to throw everything they have into making those last minutes count. And by God, they do.
Im Armada! And thanks a lot man =) Yeah Im really happy me/Aniolas decided to go cause Genesis 1 was amazing and after that it feelt right to go back often.
Amazing display of DI @ 4:23, 4:28 and 4:33. Nihonjin had plenty of time to get ready for those Fsmashes from Marth after recovering, so he more or less inputting perfect SDI (probably with quarter circle DI), ASDI, and basic DI ... and survived. =D
Nihonjin is my favorite Smash professional, as I am a Sheik-main myself. I'm glad that somebody posted a good quality video of this career-defining match.
If you pay attention, the end of the go sheik chant ends with a huge cheer that happens to perfectly match when Amsah takes the third stock. It's so good.
@FargisBlarg well it is possible to cancel marth's spike as any other character. The spike can be cancelled when Up-B is hit as soon as Marth's Dair makes contact
The last stock is always the hardest to take away. I like how EK was desperately smashing whenever he had the chance, hoping for a lucky shot or something.
*sigh* It's a shame EK got so desperate in the final stocks, but I'm taking nothing away from Nihonjin - amazing work! Some nail-bitingly tense moments.
It's basically the damage meter of the Smash Bros. series. The higher the percentage, the farther you fly from attacks. So obviously, you have to avoid that percentage from getting too high. :P
I dont know why people dont remember that Marths sword does less damage and knockback the closer to the hilt the hit is, and also his fsmash was stale +DI
I just want to point out that the tech that EK did at 4:49 is the same thing Amsah kept doing vs Zhu at Pound 4. And when he did it the announcers had never seen it before. The Euro's were doing that 4 years ago!
@ArmadaUGS That comment seemed to imply you're actually Armada, which quite frankly, is hard to believe. But the off chance you are: Dude you are amazing! You have mad skills and really put Peach on the map! Seriously tho, I'm happy you came to America because you really opened the doors to the skills/talent Europe has to a lot of us Americans. I personally was sleeping on Europe till you came but now I'm aware of tightness such as Amash, Ek, you, Ice, etc. (*lol* You're like the Europen Ken.)
I agree. The only sheik (currently) in the US that can match up to the level multiple European sheiks (Amsah, Over, Captain Jack?) would be M2K. Possibly Tope too... but I don't think he's quite there yet.
holy shit so this is the legendary comeback i have heard of. in the beginning in the vid i thought it was going to be multiple matches, then i saw amsah catching up and i was like damn son.
I was shouting WTF for the last 30 secs of that video. Seriously, I don't think there are enough words in any language to describe how amazing this was.
o junk i saw this happen befor. I dont know if this is the sam match. but anyway nice comeback. For this match i actually respected sheik's sheild grabin
that's the proof that even thoug you look like you're totally defeated, you might not be already beaten. probably the greatest and most impressive comeback that ever happened Nihonjin's the man
I agree that this was a pretty BOSS comeback but I'm not sure it's the best. The comeback that still amazes me (personally) to this day is Mew2King's comeback against Shiz, though I forget the tourney it was at. That comeback was mad crazy.
@Jotora No it was more like Amsah was Sand bagging his first 3 stocks. You can tell quite easily. EK's marth was quite defensive. Ive actually never seen a defensive marth until now. You can see it throughout the vid that his style is all defense. There is a major lack of aggression. He was primarily searching for the edgehog kills. quarter of the way through the match his moves had no variant and become predictable. By means do i say that i am better, I am just analyzing what i see.
Damage can stale, but I'm pretty sure that the formula which calculates knockback doesn't take that into account. Except for projectiles; they do have knockback scaling.
@ArmadaUGS *lol* Okay man. I'm not sure I can agree with you or not but I must admit Amsah put in that work. (Btw, noticing the "Armada" username...nice. As a Peach mainer for years Armada was like Christ returning; my current favorite smasher.)
@RhanC777 Very much so...the Marth either got very unlucky or very lazy towards the end. Seeing the last minute of that match, there were more than enough openings for a kill shot on the Sheik. As said before in previous comments, I say this only out of MLG experience.
We need to start adding this match to history books. Seriously. To hell with the Roman Empire, the Great Depression, & the Cold War. This right here is true, exciting, interesting, important, and EPIC HISTORY!!!
He got too hasty near the end, was very nervous. He didn't keep his calm towards the end of that fight. Marth had it, and slipped. That Sheik had ice-water in his veins.
@RhanC777 I've been on both sides of the fence, both of the higher and lower stock end of a comeback. Yes, its frustrating, but that's when one backs off, collects themselves, and readies for the next offensive and/or defensive. Marth he lost his composure, especially toward the end, he was too aggressive. Sheik capitalized, and boom, grand comeback. Props on said comeback, not so much on the earlier gameplay.
Yeah, yeah I have actually. I understand fully what skill is required toplay at this level and when you lose this badly, it means you've choked. Same thing happened to Isai when he fought that peach from Japan.
2:44 "Now, he will try."
natnyle damnit haha
natnyle exact moment he flipped on the kill switch
+natnyle so it wasn't just me who noticed his brain tick
natnyle exactly when the intense music started playing
Hold on to that last stock like real life. Epic.
4:43
Amsah turns to face the same direction his opponent taunted at 0:53
The ultimate middle finger
2:44 : that overlong ledge grab; you can almost see the Shiek player take a breath and compose themselves before resolving to throw everything they have into making those last minutes count. And by God, they do.
Im Armada!

2:45 God mode turned on
Too bad we never got to see Last-Stock Amsah vs Isai When He's Trying
Here from Summit 10
14 years later, wow
2:23
And then Amsah picked up the controller.
4:21-4:36 God Like DI
+bme619 Staling is a powerful mechanic.
Martha H actually in melee staleness does not effect the knock back
Dunder Pom Huh it looks like you're right. My b.
staleness definitely affects knockback in melee what are you talking about?
thanks for the rec lovage that was crazy
he just had to do that random charge smash
Amazing comeback. Just crazy.
Combo at 3:52-3:55 was quite nice.
Remember that this was back in 2006. Everyone is just better these days. Also, the marth must have gotten tense as fuck when Amsah turned it on.
@FargisBlarg well it is possible to cancel marth's spike as any other character. The spike can be cancelled when Up-B is hit as soon as Marth's Dair makes contact
When I saw Sheik down to the last life and the video wasn't even half over, I knew I was in for one hell of a show.
I didn't hear the extra ite until you mentioned it ^^; which changes the translation a little.
The last stock is always the hardest to take away.
I like how EK was desperately smashing whenever he had the chance, hoping for a lucky shot or something.
*sigh* It's a shame EK got so desperate in the final stocks, but I'm taking nothing away from Nihonjin - amazing work! Some nail-bitingly tense moments.
the crowds reaction was no where near big enough. honestly even the wombo combo got 10x the reaction that this did
Ngl, that marth looks like netplay marth
@linkoninja
PAL there are no spikes only Meteor Smashes. NTSC Spikes are there.
In PAL, falco's dair is still a spike. Ganondorf's Down-B is also a spike. I don't know if there are any else in PAL.
It's basically the damage meter of the Smash Bros. series. The higher the percentage, the farther you fly from attacks. So obviously, you have to avoid that percentage from getting too high. :P
Marth's curse: either it's very low ko or an unreasonably high ko. 160+? U shouldn't be living.
Or either very good DI
naww not really.
+BenjerminGaye If you want to talk about godlike DI check our the recent smash summit, Shroomed (I think it was ) survived until 200% on Yoshi's Story
Dreamhack 2015 reporting in.
Kreygasm

To be more correct, this was last match in winners final, with the current score 3-3.
Imagine choking on a game where you can have 3 stocks over someone
@lilrhan12
you mean PAL? Yes, that is one of the differences, if you want to see more look up Version Differences (ssbm) smash wiki on google.
Play "The Touch" at 2:47.
You'll cry.
I agree. The only sheik (currently) in the US that can match up to the level multiple European sheiks (Amsah, Over, Captain Jack?) would be M2K. Possibly Tope too... but I don't think he's quite there yet.
no matter how many times you watch it you still get that feeling that shieks been ko'ed by one of those hits towards the end.
When I saw "biggest comeback", I thought it meant recovery. So the turnabout there at Sheik's last life really shocked me.
holy shit so this is the legendary comeback i have heard of. in the beginning in the vid i thought it was going to be multiple matches, then i saw amsah catching up and i was like damn son.
OMFG. this is fucking awesome. the fact that it's winners finals makes it even more epic
I was shouting WTF for the last 30 secs of that video.
Seriously, I don't think there are enough words in any language to describe how amazing this was.
3:50 That was sooooo nasty! I'm an aspiring Shiek specialist, and this video makes me really happy.
o junk i saw this happen befor. I dont know if this is the sam match. but anyway nice comeback. For this match i actually respected sheik's sheild grabin
It's like they say, "One stock is when your true self comes out."
@coreygames this was on the PAL version of melee, therefore marth's dair is a meteor smash and not a true spike.
Marth's spike is replaced by a Meteor Smash in the PAL version. As seen in this video, you can jump-cancel a Meteor Smash.
@JoeRo55 It's PAL version.
that's the proof that even thoug you look like you're totally defeated, you might not be already beaten. probably the greatest and most impressive comeback that ever happened
Nihonjin's the man
I noticed right after the match in the description.
@Bones0 Oh okay, this was the first real Smash vid I watched. I'm pretty interested now.
I agree that this was a pretty BOSS comeback but I'm not sure it's the best. The comeback that still amazes me (personally) to this day is Mew2King's comeback against Shiz, though I forget the tourney it was at. That comeback was mad crazy.
Oh wow. This is my first time watching some high level Melee, it's pretty sick. Now I'm inspired to go break out the GCN.
Did you ever become a pro?
Best comeback I've ever seen. :o
< Now a Nihonjin fan.
wow, that was crazy. I guess the sheik started adapting a lot to that marth. It seemed the marth could easily predict him for the first few stock.
Whahahaha fine by me. :p
I figured I'd point it out as I would've wanted someone to do that for me as well. =]
@BlackiceNoku
You don't need to agree. I just said why I thougt it was a better comeback.
Haha thanks man Im glad you enjoy my choose of char/style =)
I was so getting into this by the end.
Yeah in pal marth's dair is a meteor smash. They made the pal version more balanced in general from what I heard.
you gotta be behind to make the big plays happen
This was the last match in the last set, and score were even.
look up tang vs lunin Battle field i think it's like match 3. Tang comes back from a 4 stock lead but this was sexxxxxxier.
that batle was intense, i havent closed my eyes in this batle, was amazing, great players
I LOVE that Amsah taunted in the exact same spot as EK a little before he won. (and i think ek's taunt is what gave Amsah the motivation to win.)
This comeback makes me laugh so hard. I love it.
brought tears to my eyes
I still can't believe he lost and what a comeback the Shiek made.
@Jotora
No it was more like Amsah was Sand bagging his first 3 stocks. You can tell quite easily. EK's marth was quite defensive. Ive actually never seen a defensive marth until now. Wow.. biggest comeback I've ever seen. I thought he was going to get 3/4stocked. Turned the table around majorly. Major props to that shiek user.
this looks really really good for 2006
DAMN! 3:50-3:56 combo = epic! And at the end, the marth was SO CLOSE! Very nice match. Truly epic!
@SpudMcSpudikins So much of a thousand that it has 24 more of them.
Rare footage of a subconscious distaste for disjointed grabs
would this be the ultimate mindgame?
"im gonna make it seem like i suck then have a huge comeback"
Damage can stale, but I'm pretty sure that the formula which calculates knockback doesn't take that into account.
Except for projectiles; they do have knockback scaling.
both a sheik and a marth combo video, BUT SERIOUSLY THIS IS AWESOME!!! NIHONJIN IS A GOD OF SHEIK!!!
Shiek must have made some life-changing decisions at 2:45 while she was on that ledge. Holy shit that was an amazing game.
Huh, I was expecting Sheik to die several times during the last stock. Kudos to Nihonjin on that awesome comeback.
thank you infinite love the shiek come back was that intentional or did Marth actually own in the beginin?
I can just imagine the crowd noise behind them.
@ArmadaUGS *lol* Okay man. I'm not sure I can agree with you or not but I must admit Amsah put in that work. (Btw, noticing the "Armada" username...nice. As a Peach mainer for years Armada was like Christ returning; my current favorite smasher.)
4:37 Sheik times his explosion so Marth dolphin slashes INTO it. How awesome is that?
@PinkAttribute Marth's dair isn't a spike in PAL.
GOOOOOOoooo SHIEK!
What can be said!?!?
I am never giving up mid match again.
super outclassed by KJH's comeback vs westballz now
0:51 Did that Shiek just meteor cancel a spike?
In the European version of Melee, Marth's down air is a meteor smash, not a spike.
Who wouldn't start to get nervous after blowing a 3 stock? And this is in a tournament setting too, so that wouldn't help with the nerves.
@RhanC777 Very much so...the Marth either got very unlucky or very lazy towards the end. Seeing the last minute of that match, there were more than enough openings for a kill shot on the Sheik. As said before in previous comments, I say this only out of MLG experience.

That is how true ninjas play their cards.
Silent and patiently.
He got too hasty near the end, was very nervous. He didn't keep his calm towards the end of that fight. Marth had it, and slipped. That Sheik had ice-water in his veins.
wow, all i can say is what a comeback that was pretty intense
his DI at the end was insane!!
@RhanC777 I've been on both sides of the fence, both of the higher and lower stock end of a comeback. 17 years ago
The taunt at 4:44 ..... ahahah epic.
That taunt at 4:44 >>>>>
That's typically how the Marth vs. Shiek matchup is played in the first place. If Marth mis spaces things then he loses.
I don't understand how the PAL version would have made the situation any different. Marth ledge-guarded, Sheik fell.
