Thank you for another great video and so informative, my Dad has really enjoyed this. He is 87 and sadly unable to get into Birmingham now but had many years working there as an Horologist in the Jewellery quarter and loves all the history of this great city. He and my Mum also owned boats over the years and cruised our local system so he is really enjoying your vlogs, so thanks again, keep up the great work 🙂 your Santa video also really cheered up my Mum! 🤣
Great to see Brum shown in a good light Thank You so much history and with out it where would we be to day??? looking forward for next Journey and crossing into the black country.
Thank you very much for another nice vlog ! Birmingham is very charming city with the combination of the old canals and the modern sides. Take a look with small boat under the Prison! Regards to Mrs L.
Really enjoyed this. I walked the Soho Loop from Brindleyplace this morning, what a lovely urban walk. I love Birmingham on a Sunday morning. Thank you and keep up the good work 👍🏻
Great video again. Completely agree with your comments re Birmingham. A wonderful city indeed. I was watching a programme not so long ago where Dominic Cadbury said that the public perception of Birmingham seems to lag a long way behind what is really going on in the city. It’s true I think, although I also feel this perception is changing all the time. Good stuff!
Thanks for this response. Some of the drivel I read on social media from boaters drives me insane. They spout all kinds of derogatory statements, but they don't actually have any further facts to back up them up with!
Another informative video, cheers. I have fond memories of Birmingham in the Eighties. I noticed Lozells and Handsworth on the map where I lived. I wonder if that has changed/gotten gentrified even?
The Canal's look completely deserted, such a shame that this isnt populated like all Canals. Lets hope these vlogs help bring more boats to Birmingham.
An interesting commentary and views not normally seen. Using your big pole reminded me of Gondolas and there was you punting your boat along the Venice area of a Birmingham backwater. What an ideal time to break out into song... Just one cornett, give it to me, delicious icecream from me Lumpy. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs Lumsden.
Thanks for another fabulous and interesting trips around the Birmingham canals brilliantly done and we all enjoyed watching the Santa cruising again last week.merry Christmas to you both at this time of year again where’s it gone
Thanks Philip. The subject matter is so rich, I could probably go around the same bit of canal and create a completely different narrative!! Thanks for your support this year! Merry Christmas
Shopping trollys ,icebergs of the canal, very funny as long as you dont end up as the Titanic of the canal, the rare film of Telford, he looks familiar somehow, great video as usual, keep safe guys till next time.
A very good production - thank you! (apart from what looks like a very oversized Tstud) there are magnificient views of what used to be a mucky canal and coupled with a most entertaing presentation. Thank you very much
Haha! The bow camera has a slightly wider angle than what would be ideal, making the T stud look rather larger than it should be! Thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for the interesting history tour,I live just outside Bham so it's nice to know these things,a nice quiet time too. Have you thought of doing history boat tours?
Great Vlog again ! The areas outside Winson Green, seem to be excellently kept, what a shame, it is not still travelled. Are the old buildings still used OR could be "Repurposed" to fit in with current waterway trends ? Love this Series ! Looking forward to the rest ! Stay safe ! Stu
I’ve been doing some digging about that entrance to the prison and I’ve think it was there to serve industry that was there before the prison was built. The canal opened to traffic in 1769 but the prison wasn’t built until 1849.
Nice strait stretch one might be tempted to give it the beans and do like 5mph, but not worth taking the blacking off. Thanks for the cool history and toure !
I watched your video on solo pool loop you the part you showed of the little bridge that goes into Windsor green HMP was for the delivery coal by boat good video
When you went under the Springhill bridge and looked down at the BT tower. That is the road I grew up in. The work house was in western road where the eye hospital now stands. Then you had summerfield hospital which ran behind Dudley road hospital and backed onto the cut. Hockley port was our playground as a kid. It had a farm, youth club, adventure playground and sports hall. The sports hall is now an islamic school.
Thank you. Yes you certainly can. There's some good mooring from Gas st down to mailbox. Also in Cambrian wharf and down by the NIA and also at the start of Oozles loop.
Great vlog Mr Lumsden very interesting and informative sad to see some parts of the bcn not used maybe you could be it's saviour with more exposure and help from the powers above, you should write a book, your a great ambassador to canals. May i take this opportunity to wish you a Mrs Lumsden a merry Christmas and Happy New year stay safe mate 👍
Just come across your channel and this is a great video. I'm heading down to Reading this year and would like to do the BCN, but as a lone woman it can be worrying. You certainly have to plan where you moor and on a flight of locks if you are around d unsavoury individuals around, you are basically a sitting duck!
Hey Hillary. Feel free to give me a shout if you're coming through. It's not all as bad as social media at times portrays it. I can certainly push some advice in your direction and guide you to some reasonable moorings. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment.
@@NarrowboatNatterings Thanks for the offer, I may well do that. Off to watch your video of Trent & Soar, came through last summer. After doing the Erewash which should result in a medal...🥴
@@NarrowboatNatterings I'm just watching that vlog. TBH not the prettiest canal and those gates are hard work but I'm glad I did it, it has plenty nice of nice sections. Worth the effort.
Thanks for your informative vlog very enjoyable. The future is not bright for the canals since CRT funding will be pulled by central government at some point. I am very sad to see all the criminal damage to the infrastructure and the overgrowth of vegetation that should not be allowed to happen. Rubbish thrown in the canals should be an enforcement of criminal intent with a £5000 fine.
There are certainly some problems but i'd like to think that the increasing population who live on the waterways, will have an increasing power over the way things progress..... I can but hope.

Fantastic cruise. Loved all the info too. Brilliant. Thank you 🙏
Awesome! Thanks for that. You're very welcome!
So beautiful thank you for the ride.
Always welcome. Merry Christmas to you x
The name Lumsden is famous for excellent grinding machines in the 60s and still going today, great vlog and me to proud to be a Brummie 70 years.
Yes I'm aware of the machinery thing. Also famous for the character played by Ronnie Corbett... Timothy Lumsden!

Thanks Brian. It's fab isn't it!?
Back up around that way for a Commonwealth cruise event at end of June. Should be lots of boats about.
Keep them coming Lumpy, another enjoyable vlog

Unfortunately not. Both areas are in need of regeneration to be fair. Thanks again for your support.

I do hope so. The ongoing regeneration of the Canalside areas I'm sure will help.

Thanks Stuart. The buildings are pretty dilapidated to be fair. They may be beyond repair. It is lovely around there.
Most of the inner part of the loop is being redeveloped, it’s a massive site that is being turned into a mix of residential and commercial/retail.
