I was outraged by the loss of the old St John's Market, replacing it with that faceless concrete mess. Equally, I remember the Sailor's home...a terrible loss.
To be fair, the government did try to save the Sailor's Home the best they could. Shame the building was beyond repair... Might've been better off being converted to an office
Many fine buildings all over the country have been demolished to be replaced by tat. I’ve got a book ‘Felling the Ancient Oaks’ about the destruction of our great country houses.
Also the Union Cold Storage building in Williamson Square. Formerly the Theatre Royal. It's now the LFC shop. It was demolished to make way for a new road access to Williamson Sq...which was then promptly pedestrianised.
Very sad losses all of them. One can kind of see that the war damage gave an excuse to demolish but it was still a massive failure of imagination. The others don't seem justified at all.
The 60s and 70s wasn't a very good time for historical buildings. It'd be very interesting if the old St John's Market was preserved and had a modern expansion
I could do a "part 2" and feature other cities, I'll just have to make sure the subject doesn't get repetitive Plus I have another project planned about lost cities
I was actually going to add that in! I removed it as I thought I'd cover other buildings that would most likely come to mind. However, I can definitely make some kind of info post about Bibby's Warehouse while making a sketchup model inspired by it
I'm starting to suspect that Moors or native black Europeans built much of the great architecture and there was a g'cide. Buildings claimed by those 'oddfellows' if you know who I mean. Rivalry and jealousy dating back to the first wars in Sumeria.
All the newer subsequent buildings are ugly and have no soul. What a shame, its the same in all cities which were once beautiful and unique. Why do these people bother going to architecture school.

It's shameful that every other decent sized city has a large market and we have nothing similar.
The stork hotel was demolished aswell, there was couple of books out called it all came tumbling down
@@tazzatamaniawe used to be a market city, didn't we have like 3 or 4 plus queens square ?
@@Hacienda_27 nothing daily though, Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham all have fixed markets that set up every day.

The old exchange building is still there with a facade over it. Can the facade not be removed to reveal the original building structure?
If the same buildings were in London they would of been saved, Liverpool city council still corrupt to this day

They've ruined Birkenhead across from Liverpool.....

First one actually is a massive loss damn.
Some real architectural crimes have gone on in the past. Just think of we still had those buildings today how magnificent they would be.
What about the tithe barn, castle and the old hall.
Liverpool always appears to tear down its history and replace it with something else.
Can you make a similar video about other cities? Id like to see one about Manchester

@@IsmailSarjo Oh I would definitely not find it repetitive. Id love to watch the one about lost cities as well. Thank you
You missed arguably the biggest loss. The Bibby Warehouse.

Sailors House reminiscent of Elizabethan architecture because it is obviously, Elizabethan. There are major inconsistencies in the narrative.
You left out one of the most significant losses due to incompetent council.,....the original Cavern Club!!!!
John Foster jnr was the architect of the Custom House, not his father, J.F. snr.
My mistake, I got the two confused
@@IsmailSarjoNot unusual and not helped by the fact that there were three John Fosters : grandfather, father and son.
