Such a sad story. Awesome to share to other people that have absolutely no farming experience, thinking of moving into something of this scope. This property is indeed a goldmine for someone with an office for plan of action, implementation, financial considerations ect ect. It's helpful to remember the land and natural environment, it contains, owns us. We are merely temporary caretakers.
hey just wanted to let you know that rabbits need a lot more space than just a hutch! please consider making it/them a run in order to avoid health issues and keep them happy :)
Hey, did they tell you that? Did they give you specific measurements we should work to? I have literally written the book on keeping rabbits in a colony setting. THESE rabbits however attacked the crap out of each other and had to be kept separate, I was helping another lady out that had RCD rip through her rabbitry and these were in isolation from all our other rabbits. Please ask for context before you start spouting off your wisdom at people you don't know.
@@FantailValleyHomestead Hey, they were just kindly giving a tip, not spouting off. The concern is that you stated that rabbits don’t need more than a hutch; in an advice video, as if it were fact.
It's almost time for us to move out to our new place (after years of searching!) - in the meantime we've been practicing our gardening skills at our place in the city, which has been good. We've been able to achieve heaps more then we thought we would. Looking forward to that next step though!! Great video!
Thank you for your generosity in sharing your hard won wisdom. I now know that a freezer is an essential item, but perhaps not for the reasons I first thought!
Thank you Dana for your wisdom completely agree with your suggestions about jumping in to the hobby farm # lifestyle block slowly considering whether to be the urban farmer or sell and move to a more critter friendly block
🤔 Maybe this will help? When going up or down a really steep hills it is advised to use switch-backs or zigzags. Maybe make a dirt switch-back ramp for the cows? You can do this with hand tools like people do to make and maintain hiking trails. Hope this helps! Edit: Fixed a typo.
Your advice really really was helpful...Betty and I bought my grandparents church with 5 acres of land. We are busy restoring and renovating it into our retirement home and homestead.🧑🌾🇨🇦🧑🌾🇨🇦
Honestly, down south where we are, it gets dry but not horrific, places up north dry out totally for sure. I think there is a lot we can do to our soil to improve its rain retention and ability to survive a drought. Silvopasture is a great option too, the trees help cool the soil and retain moisture. There is some amazing regenerative ag happening in Aus - Geoff Lawton is also worth looking at.
You lost credibility when you said rabbits don't need much more than a hutch. Rabbits need lots of space and are very social animals. Treating them thia way is not humane.
Because we didn't have another cow to tell if she was in standing heat, we would have to do the full hormone injection cycle which worked out at about $600 with a 50-80% chance of working. Standard AI if you know how to time is it more like $100-$150 from memory.
Just started hobby farming.
So relaxing and also very rewarding 😍
Love these type of videos so helpful for those looking into homesteading

@@FantailValleyHomestead Maybe you need to look up the natural ways rabbits live.

A hobby farm is NOT a homestead farm. Hobby farming is more like people having pets...not eating them.
No true
Nice place
Is it easier in NZ with the rain you have. Do you get drought like us across the Tasman

Can everybody become farmer?

oh christ please give that rabbit a run with the chickens or something
How much does AI cost?

I feel like your animals should definitely have more space, just seems kind of cruel to give them bare minimum space to live.
Farming is NOT a hobby.
