I visited with my son several years ago. What a wonderfully immersive environment to experience. Lots of Love went into the building and maintenance of the CMRM! Love that the Northern Pacific got featured in this video! My favorite spot... Nasty Flats bridges!

That's the prettiest of all the domeliners! Raymond Loewy had an eye for color. Thanks for sharing. The scenery is spectacular and the color scheme blends right in

    Truly amazing.
Northlandz Model Railroad in Flemington NJ is the biggest in the world, but this one I believe is of higher quality. Gorgeous scenery.

Outstanding. It is as though Raymond Loewy was thinking about me when he sat in that sun and moon lit valley, you too.

Wow! I really love this layout depicting the Northern Pacific North Coast Ltd. I would rate this layout in the top 10 layouts I have ever seen. It's done very nicely. I model Central of Georgia but I permit Northern Pacific to run on my layout. I got an FP-7 diesel with the NP livery and 4 of the Gilbert NP cars. I changed them over to LED lighting and KD couplers. So now they can run on my layout. I assume this is an HO scale layout.

What a lot of work went into that layout. Be very careful walking around it. I'm sure I saw a rattlesnake left of the stump at about 5:13. It could strike at any time if you don't watch where you step. I like that the train runs at scale speed, though I think it should slow a bit more for that high trestle around 9:20. Give the passengers a thrill by almost stopping on top of it. I learned only recently that the colour scheme was inspired by the Montana landscape that you have copied so well. I thought I'd seen everything after the meet, but then the cab view--give me more!!!

Just a word of warning: Whoever shot the on-train video had better not do that again, or his/her head is liable to be taken clean off by the bridges! :-D (Actually, that did happen on the NP in North Dakota on a Budd car run in the 1960s. The engineer put a brick on the "dead-man's pedal," and stuck his head out the window, for some bizarre reason. So sad.) But back to the lighthearted stuff: GREAT layout, train, and videography!

Great clip and layout. Thanks for the post. You think you can do a full cabride of the whole layout from one endpoint to another? Hopefully without any people in the camera view. That would be fantastic. I don't think you've done a clip with the whole cabride tour before. Already subscribed. Thumbs up!

Kudos! It takes a lot of effort to follow the train and get steady pictures. Do you have a kind of steady cam?

Yes, some of this was shot with an optically-stabilized camera.

The NP is my favorite railroad. Unfortunately I never got to ride the North Coast Limited. One little nit-pick which does not detract from the video: the NP's two FP7A's were not equipped with dynamic brakes, so it is unlikely the NP would run them all the way to Seattle on the NCL.

    • @Greatdome99

NP's two FP7s were purchased for their Twin Cities-Winnipeg train. They were the only psgr Fs to have snowplow pilots/no dynamic brakes. BN put them in freight service over Stampede Pass. Go figure.

These didn't have "spitter's" type air release. These are F units not SD40's with 645 prime movers. These had 567's

it seems in real life trains move at a more rapid speed, why do they run them so slow
