Us Appalachians know all about coal mines, just like Charles Bronson. My Dad worked in the coal mines between WW-2 and the Korean War. Again, thanks for this video about Charles Bronson.
A wonderful tribute to a great American. Bronson was the real deal. Now I want to go back and watch all those amazing films again. Great job TDIH! Thanks!
The loss of Ms. Ireland at such a young age was so tragic. Her and Mr. Bronson's marriage reminds me a little of Gable & Lombard only not quite as Hollywood. Each man was so devasted by the loss of their true love. So heartbreaking. 😢💔 I found it interesting that Mr. Bronson turned to the Arts as a career following his service in WWII. After the abject poverty of his youth, the demoralizing, backbreacking harshness of the coal mines, and the horrors of war, it was as if his soul was seeking peace, purity, solace, and beautiy to heal a brutilized soul. Then he found Jill Ireland and the pieces just fit. Eventhough she was already married, he had to attach her to his heart.
When I was a little girl my momma told me that Charles Bronson resembled my grandfather. She lost her dad when she was very young and I have since lost her, so, now, when I see something about Charles Bronson, or one of his movies, he reminds me of her. He was a wonderful man.
Thank-you for this! Charles Bronson was/is my all time Hero! You left out so much from this, though.😢 Still... rags to riches, combat hero, actor, staunch friend, peacemaker, romantic, faithful husband. The story about his birthday gift from K Russell is sweet, too & told in your other video. Lovely man. I miss him & James Gardner SO much! ( Robin Wlliams, too- but that's a different type of story!
It didn't hit me till I watched this again, but not having 3 meals a day till he was in the Army means he was 20 YEARS OLD before he was well fed! It's a wonder he grew up so big & strong! My Dad was also in WW2 in the Army. Korea, too. RIP to both of you heros!
"Charlie and I never spoke of our experiences during the war, but there was a shared understanding" (Lee Marvin). Wow!!! That truly captures the essence of what I've envisioned the interactions were on-set between these actors who served in WW2. Thanks Nick, as always!!
Superb bio, TDiH! Bronson was always a big favorite growing up ... but it wasn't until my 60s that I learned of his real toughness and heroics from your channel.
Charles Bronson a real American hero, veteran, movie star, and tuff guy. 💪💪👍👍 Thanks for the video I enjoyed it. 👍👍 keep them qulity videos coming and I will keep watching. 👍👍
My husband always liked Charles Bronson. I remember going to see his movie Death Wish. I was a little miffed at first when I heard about him and Jill but that was because I always liked David (Ducky) McCallum. But I guess the heart will have what it wants. I always enjoy hearing the small amounts of backstory heard in videos like this. The selfless duty to our country during that awful time is wonderful to hear. It shows where true heroes are.
I watched The Great Escape in a movie theater with an intermission to change reels and visit the snack bar. In the 60’s movies were good and affordable. Now popcorn costs more than the movie did then.
I was addicted to Charles Bronson movies during the 80s. I've never seen him playing the part of Igor though!🧐 A responsible strong lad who grew into leader in his own rights. I imagine he would have made a most excellent Lieutenant Colonel of any assigned Battalion, given the opportunity.🙌 With the invention of video recorders, we would religiously watch 'Death Wish' to a point we could just about narrate the whole movie. I will always love Charles Bronson. ❤ great upload thank you
A strange connect that Charles had with Jill Ireland when they met. She was then married to David McCallum, who was starring in the film the great escape. They then had a relationship, and amazingly McCallum was very stoic about it, but of course, Charles and Jill truly loved each other.
Paramount insisted he change his name before they would offer him a contract.. He wracked his brain while waiting at the bus stop across the street from the main gate at the studio. Finally he looked up at the corner street sugn. Melrose Avenue and North Bronson Avenue . And that's how Charles Bronson was born. True story. You cam stamd on that corner today.
I meet Charles Bronson in 1909 s.union Ave my mom bldg ok he was filming there and he coming I was coming up so sir came I have autograph I hardly do these I didn't even have a pen or paper I took off my t shirt and signed Charles Bronson to Carlos and smile.
A couple of years ago, found his grave in Vermont. Nice View. Jill Ireland is supposedly buried with him, BUT isn't mentioned on the grave stone and supposedly it's her ashes in a hollow cane that was buried with him.
Growing up in a coal mining town makes you think about the days that you won't have to live in a coal mining town and provided and impetus for a lot of people to become successful in all sorts of occupations just to never have to live the rest of their lives underground or caring for someone who did, and was dying before his time. I know that I grew up in one and left for the Air Force and a law profession . We have a man who left my hometown as boy to become an actor. His name is Howard Keel, and he had an incredible career., Now the mines have been closed for quite a while in my hometown and it is now a "bedroom community" for people who work elsewhere. And I am back to work as a country lawyer and retire. It is now a small town of 3200 people or so with clean air, no frieght trant coal drags in the middle of the night, clean streets and well kept, if small and older houses. No one locks their doors and there's always someone to reach out to if you need a helping hand.
With today's advancements in the technology of breast cancer, I believe Jill would have lived longer. Two.years. ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer.. I.was told that I only had a 3% chance of it ever returning. I had a biopsy done with radiation for 16 days. There was no chemotherapy, and I was extremely happy. Even though it's been 2 years, the different doctors keep a regular routine in my care. I am fortunate for the loving and kind care I received. Just make sure you have a mammogram once a year. That's how I found out.

Yes. Unexpected choice. I wonder if he followed a gut feeling or something like that. His wife was an absolute stunner. May they rest in peace.
Truly a member of the Greatest Generation ❤😊
