That was a great perspective. Normally, I turn racing videos off after the first lap, because I have seen the course already, and it gets repetitive. But, having a pilot to root for, and seeing their struggles along the way made it more interesting. Great job guys.
Yeah, that is something drl has to improve. There is to much bullsh*t moderator talking in DRL. This here with Vanover was great, makes your self as a viewer more focused on the race.

Dang, I need to stop lookng at comments before I get to the end. You could have started with SPOILER! 😉 Congrats Alex, even if I haven't seen you win yet. Did that Alex' video seem really bad, or is that just how it is at these big races? I mean, it's perfectly flyable, but it seems like a lot of colored bands and noise. Or is this a case of the DVR being noticeably worse than what you see in the goggles?I have HD3s, and my DVR looks pretty good to me , especially compared to what I saw here, but it's mostly outdoors too, and I imagine all the multipathing and stray RF don't help.

Yes I do agree with you on the DVR footage. It basically sucks. If this whole video was just DVR footage there is no way I could watch it all. I'm not really a big fan of this type of racing and how they remember when to make all those turns is pretty confusing to me.

I'm so amazed at how calm and professional someone as young as Alex can be during competition. I was nervous just watching it, I just started racing and I'm a nervous wreck. Alex had some great tips in this one. Great video and nice win.

Agreed. It's great, but you'll have to mess with the mass, gravity and drag to make it feel right. Get an OTG cable and plug your controller in. The virtual sticks are just going to teach you bad habits.

I had the pleasure of watching Alex fly at the North Dallas Speed Adicts home track a few years ago when his voice was still cracking. lol. That kid is a wizard at the sticks!! I knew way back then that the vanover hype was legit AF!!
Been wanting to get a look at what it's like to be at the races, what it would be like to actually race, etc. and this was perfect for that. Thanks for bringing us along!

He's fast, but if you watch in the final he'll pull back to get back on his line and not hit gates. That's actually being fast.
I have to say, walking the track and getting to know the track before you launch is a huge tip for new racers.

The boy and I are building our fleet to learn this thing called FPV.... tinyhawk(fun around the yard), Tomoquads Carrera(micro 2.5" racer), FVP Flight club Neutron 3" our park Practice quad, and when we can make it to the field.... 2hrs away.... our tokio pro's. Just want to fly, fly and fly some more!

Was it only the dvr that was so bad or is that normal to have an image that terrible when so many people are flying at the same time?

Thats what I was thinking. Hopefully it is just the dvr that looks so bad. It wouldn't be fun at all flying like that.
Yeah, the feed was hideous
When racing in indoor environment, even when using Clearview system for the pilots, the video feed can be horrible. In fact, my thought watching this video was "wow, such clean video for a place like that!" When flying with that quality, your brain tricks you to think the interferences don't exist and you can fly comfortably, it's not that bad!
@@alphabetamedia interesting, I always thought that perfect image was the key to drone racing. I could see myself getting into outdoor racing but I think I'll stick with some backyard freestyle for now :D
