The “beast mode” arpeggiator he does on the left hand is super easy on piano. That part might be a one month on piano

Honestly the "one week" thing should be primary use. The other stuff is better/easier on a midi piano and has no real reason to be done on launchpad
Jokes on you, the launch pad has far superior light shows
@@vanyel_etc8695 which is all show and no utility. You can easily sync up the lighting from a midi keyboard preformance to display on the launchpad.

Yea easy transition from piano,
But different,
I would think launchpad would be harder, the chords and shapes are ambiguous ??😅
@@MikeyLikesItt It would be, which is why it would be better to play piano.
My thoughts exactly. The "10 years on launch pad" is like 2 years of solid piano lessons.
Why bother with piano? Launchpad is better, has more possible notes and is much smaller and more precise. Needs no tuning and sounds the same as any other launchpad.

Have you ever tried playing the piano? Unless you just learn that one song and don't care about any of the scales techniques etc. You would not be able to play that
@@itsruthieee, I have 12 years of lessons, all of which started at the age of four. With dedication and discipline, I believe it is possible to learn that within a year. Mind you, they didn’t provide context to their statement. They could very well be talking about learning that song and only that song within a year. From my personal experience, the piano is by far one of the toughest languages in music. If I wasn’t forced into lessons at age four, there’s no way I could sit down and learn the piano within a year and be able to play that.
@@itsruthieee have you ever played piano? The fuck do you need scales/"technique" (whatever that means) if you're just reading sheet music?
Coming from someone who actually plays jazz piano and knows all the scales and "techniques"
@@itsruthieee I have bought a piano around 2 years ago and played Tschaikowsky's Valse seentimental after about 1 year. But I have been playing the guitar and several other instruments since the age of 3 (now over 30 years), so there already is a rather big base in music-understanding. Legendary launch pad song
Ok but pop culture is literally one of the best things i can perform on the launchpad, still making progress but yeah
This is what the piano is designed for... You could put 1-10 years playing an actual piano and walk away with so much more skill under your belt...
*Edit for the ppl taking this way too seriously: there nothing wrong with playing an electronic instrument. It's fun and serves many purposes - knock yourself out. But for what this guy is playing - that's the function of a piano. It could very well be a silly video, but kind of misleading otherwise. Aspiring musicians would get more out of a keyboard with a drum pad built in.
It would be the same.
He's literally hitting buttons that play a certain note. These buttons are in certain positions.
Just exactly the same as a piano or any other instrument or thing that makes a frequency that we arrange in time and tone and call it music.
So, no. 6ou wouldn't have more skill. You'd have a different perspective in creating the very thing you're already creating and accomplishing. The difference would be how the notes are arranged and setup. Instead of having the said notes arranged in a linear fashion from right to left. The notes are then fastened in a row like array like vegetables growing.
In which way does this version take away from being able to play the right notes on time?
The very thing he's already doing.
In which way is he not creating chords and arpeggiating various parts?
Just as you would with any other chordable instrument.
The instrument does not in any way define your ability to create music. Any asshole that believes this to be opposite is not a real musician. Let alone an artist.
You either see tools and their use.
Or you some kind of prick that believes only certain humans of a certain DNA strand are capable of creating wonderful things in a certain way.
Art isn't fucking business. It's open to do how you'd like to do it.
Otherwise, it's not art and we should just throw all fucking art away.
You could argue he is more skilled because he can play any instrument through this 🙉
That's like saying someone who spends 10 years playing the trumpet or drums should have just played the piano, they are just different musical instruments with different pros and cons. People happen to be drawn to different types of music, the skill comes from how much dedication you have and practice you are willing to put in. There are definitely people out there who spend years playing piano who have little skill or understanding of music, and people who play these types of modern instruments who have fostered real talent.
The thing about a launchpad that this short maybe doesn't illustrate very well is you can program those buttons to have any sound you want in any finger configuration you want. That unique versatility is one of their selling points. I agree that the final snippet he played sounds mostly like a keyboard so I can see how it's easy to say "why not just play a piano", but that doesn't mean the launchpad doesn't require skill or isn't worthwhile.
I didn't read the essay responses but as a full-time music teacher who plays both traditional and electronic instruments, my post stands.
@@TheLemonKiller Pianos are better because they let you control attack, decay, release and sustain. Some digital pianos also let you finger up/down the note to control whatever midi mapping you want. And you can also take your skill to play analogue pianos and electric pianos. I'm not sure there are launchpads with all these features. Arguably there maybe could if there were weighted keys and pedals and touch and also versions that were analogue and electric.
