the passion and info you put into this channel is well worth the 10 bucks for a mouth call you promote.don’t need the big brand name to kill a turkey.. i’d just loose it in the woods anyway 🤙
I honestly can't believe you only have 21k subs Matt. You deserve to be over that 100k mark. The information you've given me has improved my hunting drastically. I just got into hunting turkey 6 years ago and had to learn it all by experience and watching/listening to others. I almost made it happen in 2020, but every time something happened. Hoping to finally get me one this year.
Great.video Dale, perfect for me who have little experience with mouth calls, lots to learn, excited about this spring in NC and VA, if you're looking for some private land in NC for Turkey hunting, give me a shout.
I wish I could just put you in my turkey vest so you could give advice when my turkeys do the exact opposite of what I thought they were going to do!!!!!!!😂
Great video as always Matt!! I've been hunting elk my whole life on the high county of Colorado know how to use mouth calls very well, but still trying to learning what to say and when to the birds. You have the best show going..love to hear your insight about the turkey world
One thing everyone needs to remember is to not quit...I have a bad gag reflex and the roof of my mouth is small so I put my calls way up front towards my teeth and use it that way...I do real well but still cant putt and purr like that but will keep trying till I get it down...They key is to experiment...Put the call more fwd, cut the tape some or even go to a kids size...Calls are pretty inexpensive...Im convinced anyone can use a mouth call...
I ain't got no teeth and keep mine up close to the front I only use smaller size calls I do not cut tap bc if your cut ain't good air gets out where it's not needed I can't putt and with the purr I can only do it kinda loud but practice practice practice so they say 😂 so far the turkeys I've been able to get on seem to like me and a few fellow hunters seems to believe I'm a turkey and they sounded pretty good as well😂😂
I’ve turkey hunted for about 15 years and every turkey I’ve shot I got them coming with a box or glass call and finished them off with old school Quaker Boy straight triple or double reed mouth calls.
@Dale Outdoors I’ve never come close to being able to purr on a mouth call. Which one of the spring fever mouth calls would you recommend? Or what genre of mouth call?
Hey Matt I ordered Ol Sly mouth call, now is that good for "soft callin" and can u recommend me any soft callers, I've ordered DOZENS, and the best I've found is Primos W1
Non Pro, you’re dead on, that Primos WP-1 is the most versatile, consistent and best sounding mouth call available. There is no need to switch from one call to another to soft call; that’s bad advice.
@@ericbaker2023 that call is the only mouth call I've found that is the closest thing to a real hen so far for me, I'm just now gittin into Woodhaven to try their stuff
@@nonprooutdoorsandmore2303 I was on the primos pro staff for 17 years (quit in 2014); that WP-1 will do every turkey sound and do it well from soft purrs, clucks and whines, to aggressive cutting and yelping, outstanding Jake yelps and kee Kees, and all for $4.97 at Walmart mart. I’d pay $24.97 fir the WP-1 so I don’t care about price, but the fact it’s $5 doesn’t hurt either. I mean no disrespect to Dale, I respect what he’s trying to do in this video series, but if you need 2 different mouth calls to call soft vs loud then you’re using the wrong mouth calls. Also, that double he had did have cuts; people need to know that cause a straight double with no cuts is actually hard to run. The small cuts on the sides of the double he was running make that specific call easier to use. I’m not knocking either of the calls he used, but the idea of having to switch mouth calls as you’re working a bird just because he’s getting closer is bad advice on my opinion. There are too many good calls out there (Primos, Mountain Hollow, Tipton Creek, Gunter, etc., too many to list) and there is no reason to ever have to switch mouth calls just to call loud be soft.
Well said friend, the double I git more whistle and kee kee and it's more difficult for me to run much more with it, I just like a small variety just because I like to sound like a small flock and if I git busted I can move a 10p yrds and run another call, I try to make it less obvious to a turkey, just my way of thinkin tho
@@ericbaker2023 i don’t need to switch to soft call, I just prefer sometimes to switch calls just to throw a different sound sometimes to a hung up turkey. I was trying to answer the question why there is different cut and mouth calls to the viewers. I can soft call and do anything I want on any of the calls just trying to make it simple for those that don’t understand. That was all I was trying to do. The double reed do have cuts as you said but from a beginner standpoint he or she don’t see that top reed cut so it’s easier to show the “no cut” to them so they can pick it out easier. Just trying to keep it simple for everyone
Definitely take some getting used to. For one thing the vinyl is stiff when you first take them out of the case but softens up after a bit. Try just keeping it in your mouth for a minute or so without calling and take it out when it becomes uncomfortable. Stick it between your teeth, roll it around with your tongue. Get used to it. Then try again a little bit longer. I sometimes warm mine up that way on the drive to the woods. And not everyone’s mouth is the same size. Bending them a bit to fit the roof of your mouth often helps.
Hey Matt, I have been hunting in mississippi on some national forest land this past week. I had gobblers come in 4 separate times without gobbling using your sit and soft call method (which is proving to be extremely effective at attracting turkeys). However, I have been unable to close the deal with these gobblers because they are hanging up between 80-100 yards and just strutting in some cases for over an hour. Do you have any tactics I can use to fire these gobblers up just to get that extra yardage I need to close the deal?
@@nathancantu700 I was doing some scratching too. I didn't think about it but jake yelps or gobbler yelping might have fired him up. I'll add that to the bag of tricks thank ya!

They got birds around my area but I never get a response and I believe it sounds great my call us a Woodhaven mouthcall
You're double reed is too good!
Man you deserve way more subs than you have
Hey dale, I hunt in Alabama. What WMA are you hunting at?

Them Alabama wmas will get you with all those rules hahahah
What’s the scope you use for your shotgun

White tape taste the best
I can’t get over the gagging reflex.
Try slightly bending in the middle

Also try trimming the skirt

I have had success with the same technique
Sometimes just shutting up completely will help
@@wideopenwithwhit8251 yea I tried shutting up for about thirty minutes and he just stood there and strutted it was cool but extremely frustrating
I would say scratch the leaves and throw in some jake yelps to piss him off lol
